I thought my camshaft went away again. But everything seems adjusted ok. Maybe it’s deeper …

Are you running the 3/8” thick valve cover gaskets with those roller rockers? Sounds like a rocker hitting the valve cover . Check for a wear mark on the inside of the cover. Run your hand across the valve cover while it’s running and feel for it. If it turns out to be bottom end and you’re running h beam rods. Pretty common for a rod to hit the pan and need some clearancing

Used thick gaskets. No wear on inside of covers. Didn’t hear that noise during dyno…

Did you set the engine on the ground or was there any way the pan could have been compressed during install even a small amount could cause a rod to hit. Are they molnar h beams?

Eagle rods. I’m using TAs pan. Definitely set it down in transport

Most of the time they hit towards the front. Run your hand across the pan while it’s running and you’ll probably feel it. If so you can pull the pan by jacking the motor up. Pita, been there done that, I run the eagle h beams too.

Which TA pan? If it's the reproduction stocker, that one has to be clearanced before it is installed.. the front counterweight on the crank hits.

yup, the latest ones I have seen actually have a sticker on the front, saying you need to check the clearance..

Really not that big a deal to adjust it, but a big pain if you miss it.. I have to confess, I missed the first one, as it had stock rockers on it, and there was no reason to turn it over.. but we sure heard it on the test stand.. and you can really feel it, when you turn the engine over by hand.

take the plugs out, and turn the engine a complete revolution with a socket and long ratchet.. you will feel that number one counterweight hitting the front corner of the pan, where the folds are.

Cannot feel much while running. Guess I’ll pull engine and and pan to find out.

and I just had trans out and couldn’t feel much while rotating. Also ran through the valves with valve cover off to check and make sure it wasn’t up top.

I too had to clearance the reproduction pan in the front. I still noticed some interference, i had to clearance the stock windage tray slightly as well.
