Scotty Brown has good cams with nitrate coating as well.

Jr, does Bullet have roller blanks? Sorry to hear about the cam…..that really sucks. My cam is HL version….wondering about that choice now. Interesting my cam came in a Crower box

Looks like you are running dual springs, did you remove the inner spring for break in?

No. Springs are the ta 1125. 125#. Ta does “highly recommend” removing inner spring. In the rear view now.

Hopefully that Pontiac flywheel was balanced to your Buick engine rotating internals

It should be match balanced to the one that came off the engine.

Used the correct weight. She was humming so smooth at 2200 rpm’s.

Breakin with both valve springs is a resounding NO……. Lesson learned.

Im bummed for you. Since its not in the car id be real tempted to pull it apart and clean it out thoroughly. I've got the TA 1125al Springs and Delphi lifters with the hard foot. I was thinking about not pulling the inner Springs since the over the nose pressure is 270 lb but I don't think I'm going to risk it now.

Will be cleaning it up. Have a bullet cam on order. I’m not sure it’s only a matter of spring pressure. “Myvintageiron” did a recent episode about some of the issues surrounding flat tappets these days. He proposed a theory of poor quality control as it relates to cam lobe taper being insufficient or out of spec to spin lifter.

Since the material and manufactured quality apparently is unpredictable, taking all precautionary measures is paramount. Maybe in the fiuture cams will be available in pre “broke-in form” , sets only of course with the lifters, and no longer be an issue. Hmmmm, sounds like a tried and true used cam and lifters.

That's where the smaller grinders come into play,...much better QC

When I lived in Montana I had a local machine shop that would Rockwell test stuff for me. I always knew if I had a bad part as far as material before I ever put it to use. Haven't found one with the Rockwell tester around here.

The last cam I broke in I used a set of old worn out stock valve springs. Did the cam break-in, then drove it never going over about 3500-4000rpm for about 200 miles before swapping in the TA Stage1 springs on my TA288-94 cam. Still going good.
