    359A2B69-C9E4-4A50-8671-6C9C3593ED63.png Hey all,

I have assembled the bottom end today. Previous to final hone work, we did a short fill on the block and the passenger side water inlet for water pump has some hardblok in it. Drivers side is wide open. Has anyone figured out a way to restrict both openings equally ?

    Thanks !

I just ended up chiseling it out a bit. Went with “regal red” from rust oleum. Close enough? Lol 2808A058-62BB-4D46-BD61-DBDCADDECEE6.jpeg

Got the heads on, timing cover and balancer. Mocked up intake and sending off for matching. Still need headers ceramic coated. Hopeful to gather a few more parts and finish final assembly.

Great to see some progress. I’m putting a 470 together as well. Just got my stage 2 TA heads from Scotty Brown.
What cam are you using? I went flat tappet - TA 290-08HL

What you gonna do for ignition?

Progression Ignition programmable distributor with msd coil. Im running this distributor on my 455 , so far a great product. You can create custom ignition timing curves with your smartphone.

    Intake - sp1, carb - modified 800 cfm qjet, a holley hp1000

That's likely a mistake. The "popular" MSD coils have poor reputations for durability ever since they moved production to Mexico, and then to China.

What would you recommend for a coil equivalent?

The last coils I bought new were the round, canister-type. Originally produced by/for Crane, the ignition part of the Crane operation was sold to Comp Cams/FAST. Low-resistance primary windings suitable for HEI and other high-current ignition systems, NOT suitable for points or similar.

At the time I bought them, they were claimed to be Made in USA. That claim is still on the Summit web site, as an answer to a question posted on the PS50 page, but NOT on the PS60 page. Note that the PS50 and PS60 used to be the same coil, one painted "black", one in "nickel" finish. Now the PS60 is epoxy-filled instead of oil; so production has obviously changed. The PS50--which I bought--is still listed as "oil filled" and "Made in USA" so get one while the gettin' is good. Summit has "four" left in stock. No promises on the web-site being up-to-date.

MOSTLY, I'm buying used, OEM coils direct from the Treasure Yard. Pennies on the dollar for top-quality parts. Again, low-resistance primary windings suitable for HEI and other high-primary-current ignition systems.

Thanks, I will look into these options. Was a time when you could buy a coil, be good for longer than you owned the vehicle.

You can run stock rockers with that cam... done it many times.. 70/71 aluminum rockers would be my first choice, as every so often the bigger hyd flat tappet cams will push a pushrold thru the stamped steel ones. I have only seen that once, and the cam was bigger than what you have there (more valve spring pressure open). You should be at around 300 psi open on the nose of the cam, with that stick, as long as it is not the high lift version... and TA 1125A valves springs. You can always upgrade the rockers later...

Push rod length/geometry change between stock rockers and ta rollers?

Regardless of which rockers you use, you will need to measure for correct push rod length. Use a push rod checker to determine that. With stock rockers, it is just length, but with TA roller rockers, you want the adjuster flush with the bottom of the rocker arm for best geometry. See TA's directions,

I'm surprised the 70/71's are your first choice..I always thought they were the least desirable of the stock choices? My understanding has always been (taking into account both strength and ratio) the first choice was 67's, then 68/69's, then the centered stamped steel (72-76?) then the offset stamped steel (71-72?) and lastly the aluminum 70-71 's? Have I been way off base all these years?

TA roller rockers installed and pushrods and ignition ordered. Intake back from machine shop. Dyno scheduled December 21… fingers crossed. :)

Does a big block Pontiac flywheel have same bolt pattern as big block Buick?
