Jeremy's 455 motor build thread

Hasn't been warm enough to drive around town and roads are salty yet.. need rain. Track opens next week for test and tune.

I hope it runs wayyy better with the rebuilt transmission and new converter.

 

I use painter's cotton drop cloth. It's 8x10 and slides around on my (polished) concrete floor.
Just that thin layer makes a tremendous difference when the garage floor is 40-50 degrees.

And I can slide under and out from under the car rather than "scootching".

Been doing it like this for 50 years, and I keep telling myself, "I should buy a lift...".

 

I have these foam rubber "puzzle Mats" that were for the kids when they were little. They are awesome! The connect together to make whatever shape you need, and wipe clean easily.

Well it was test and tune day, first of the season. Car went it's best 12.95 at 102mph with 10-15mph head wind.

First two passes were 13.12 and 13.10. Then my dad changed the front jets from 78 to 84. This car can probably run 12.60's on a good day!!

See what a rebuilt transmission and a better torque converter does? And I was shifting on my own at 5000rpm. Through the lights it's about 4900rpm with the new converter.

Try looking for my dad's video from today with his tomahawk motor. Yikes!

 

Well today my dad and I both used my car today. I raced street, he races hot rod.
We both lost 2nd round.

Car ran its best 12.699. (for me)
Dad one upd me at 12.690.
104mph.
Alittle head wind.

Car is pretty consistent from all 8 runs.

Last week it was 84°, today it was 43°

 

Please post a link to you dad's video - my search did nothing!

I don't see it on his facebook page or on the Tomahawk group. Any other leads? A link would be nice..

 

It's nothing fancy, it's just a huge wheelie, almost bumper dragger. But was unexpected. I'll see if I can youtube it and link it here if he wants it posted that is.

 

Red out today

 

Car went it's best 12.63. little tailwind. Then the heat set in and kept running slower.

Had a .002 light and got a bye, but ended up racing someone and lost. 12.77 on that run.

 

Need more air in rears. Normally run 16lbs

 

Anyone catch that license plate number? Howd I get that lucky?
