I did two tanks of gas on my first day of hooning around with the 8 psi boost. I think the first tank was gone in an hour.

Nice job on car. The paint job looks like the color on my car. My color came from a 1988 Fiero. Looking forward to hear how it will run in the 1/4 mile. I went the nitrous rout myself and I run 13.55 on motor and went 11.81@114 on a 125 shot. 90 mph in the 1/8 and 7.5 ET

THanks for the compliments. It's popular at the cruise ins..

There are no 1/4 mile tracks around here.. For now we will have to calculate.. I went 86 in the 1/8th.. It should be faster next time, since i've made several significant changes.. The weather has been sucky here though..

Jay, Is this easy to setup? Does it plug into the GM HEI and use it's coil or do you run another external coil. If you set the 34* initial timing the box does the rest of the timing with boost. Is that correct? It seems very safe.

It was really easy to setup. You need the box, the map sensor and cable, and whatever connector for you HEI..

Yep.. Just set the timing at 34* it automatically retards the timing 10* for starting (anything under 500RPM) and you tell the box how much timing to pull for each LB of boost. I think it was in .1* to 1* increments per LB..

It still uses an external coil..

Cool, this is what I'm looking for, Don't get me wrong I don't mind driving around with a timing light on the passenger seat but I worry about the timing all the time. Does it matter which springs are in the dizzy? I just bought a GM red cap dizzy I think its standard made in Canada. Do you do away with the vacum advance forever? Where is a good place to mount the box. Thanks.

SPRINGS????? Hmmm we might be onto your problem.. Are you running 26* of timing with centrifugal advance still enabled??

My dizzy is LOCKED, as in the springs are removed and the advance is epoxied so that it cannot move. If you still have centrifugal advance and set at 26* initial, what is your total advance at 3000 RPMs???? 26* has to be total PERIOD at WOT..

OH no. :eek2: The heavy springs were in. inital was around 6 and at 4500 rpm +/- 26 to 28. Can you show me a picture of your rotar. OH F######K

Oh.. Well that's OK.. I thought you had it set at 26 and still had additional timing on top of that..

I'm running a stock points dist. with a pertronix points replacement as a trigger.. The stock dist is epoxied so that the centrifugal advance is FIXED..

The car idles at 34* of timing.. It stays at 34* all of the time unless the boost retards it via the Mallory box..

Well.. I've been playing some more since the weather got better here..

I have the carb dialed in with high 13's low 14's at cruise. High 12s low 13s at part throttle with boost. High 11s low 12s with WOT.. The methanol (-20 washer fluid) sprays at 6lbs of boost with the biggest jet that came with the kit. Good for 600 WHP. THe whole spraying process is seamless. You never know it happens except the green light comes on..

I've also added 4* of timing so that I'm running 34 initial and only pulling .5* per Lb of boost (so 30* at WOT with a big gulp of washer fluid) .. I also hooked the vacuum advance back up to the ported advance so Im cruising at a whopping 46* of timing. ( no pinging) This car has never run better, Fuel mileage has increased big time from the 11.5 AFRs I was seeing..

    I actually pulled a .85 G accelleration from a roll the other day:TU: ..

    This is fun..

Good for you! :beers2: Mark was telling me today that he is running ported vacuum source for his vacuum advance as well.

So what is your race weight? Looks like you should be in the high 11s in the quarter. Not bad for an engine you built your self with no expensive parts.

Around 3800 I would guess.. I could at lest take the sub out of the trunk.. It pulled a 1.1 G on the G-tech..

I bet I have less than 1K dollars in the engine.. It runs flawlesly..

You should take some video next time! Your 60 foots are looking good, nice work!

-How many psi of boost off the line are you getting?

-What boost levels are you running and at what rpm are you getting full boost?

Sean.. Boost is immediate or very close to that. As soon as you hit the gas the boost gauge goes bam and stays there.. Even from idle.. I don't know how much boost I'm getting on the line. Probably very little. There is no noticeable turbo lag.. It just F'n goes..

My first two runs I blew the tires away.. Probably didn't get them hot enough.. My very first run I lifted twice before I got hooked, and still wen't by the Camaro to run a 9.0..
