You never made a mistake driving that hurt/effected no one where a warning would have sufficed?

I'm not above the law or saying don't obey the law. I'm talking about having a brain fart on a divided four lane highway because you got a really, really, really bad medical diagnosis that afternoon from your doctor and were just not paying attention. You're doing 65 in a 65 and missed the " 55 zone ahead" sign but saw the speed limit sign that said 55 as you passed it. You brake to slow down but get a ticket anyway. No one around, no one got hurt, no accident just a mistake. You never saw the cop and still slowed down. The cop listens but could care less and writes the ticket.

    OR

You're coming from burying your best friend earlier that day. The reception is over, you've sat with his wife and cried and reminisced over the past 30 years, it's late now and you're on I-95 alone in the car with no radio on just the sound of the car and the wind. You're mind is replaying the events of you're lives as you drive; you creep up over the limit instead of being smart and using the cruise. No one hurt, no one around, no accident, just you. Here's your ticket you criminal.

    OR

We have a cop here in G'ville that waits by the high school where the only school zone in town without flashing lights is located. He writes you and four others a ticket for speeding in a school zone 8 minutes after the zone time expires. You were listening to the news so you know the time on your clock in the car is correct but he says he goes by the time on his watch.

Same G'ville cop waits in a school zone and you are halfway through it when the flashing lights come on and you're doing 35 instead of 15 even though school doesn't start for an hour and there are no kids around. He jumps out in front of you and tickets you. Yea, you should know what time it is but again school is an hour away and no one is around, a warning would have sufficed.

Same G'ville cop arrests a neighbor lady because she forgot her reading glasses and asks him to read her the ticket before she signs it. She's 45 years old, 5'7" & weighs 100# soaking wet. He forces her to the ground, cuffs her and tosses her in the back of his squad car. He has car towed to the inpound yard and she has to spend the weekend in jail because it is Friday. She owns her own business so she made no money that day. She is a single mom and we pick her kids up from school and care for them over the weekend. My wife picks her up from jail after her arraingment on Monday. She has to pay towing, impound fees and misc other jail/court expenses along with the ticket and now has a criminal record. Total for this fiasco is $3000.00 because she forgot her reading glasses? He charged her with refusing to sign the ticket and resisting arrest. She did neither!

What do you with guys like him? The city gave him top cop award for his traffic control and ticket record.

No you are wrong! Good people make mistakes that effect no one and hurt no one yet they are treated like criminals. Warnings are not given here anymore and that is wrong. Cops should be more human and less attitude!

Wrong...By law, there is a sign that says "Reduced speed ahead" posted a required number of feet BEFORE the lesser speed limit sign, which gives you ample time to, you guessed it, REDUCE your speed. When LEAVING a lesser speed zone, entering a HIGHER speed zone, you may not increase your speed to the posted limit until you have REACHED the sign, after the sign you may increase to the posted limit. The sign would not be posted until, at the very least, you were crossing out of the city limits, and usually they would be a good distance OUTSIDE the corporation limits, or into the higher speed zone within the corporation limits. So this "theory" holds no water and if you got a ticket for speeding up before you got to the higher sign, sorry, but it's justified.

    In the first couple scenarios...
Sounds to me like you should perhaps pay closer attention while driving, failure to pay full-time attention is another charge in and of itself and I guess you could consider yourself lucky you didn't get cited for that, being that it sounds as if you are admitting to this at least. If you are that "zoned out" while driving, what would happen if a kid walked out in front of you, or a car had an emergency and broke down in front of you. Would you be upset at the cop for citing you because everyone should understand you had so many other "more important" things on your mind? Driving is a privilege, not a right, and when you enjoy that privelege there should be nothing else more important as you are taking your life, and everyone elses on the road into your own hands.

    In the "school zone" scenarios...
School zones are typically zero tolerance, and for good reason. If the details are correct though, you probably could have beat these by explaining it to the judge, of course the burden of proof would be on you.

In the case of the lady (which is hearsay)...
I would imagine there was more leading to her arrest and being taken into custody than you are being told. You state "she did neither!", well, I would have to ask, were you there?

And just for the record, "speed trap" is a term that is only valid in a situation where you are "enticed" to go above the speed limit, then cited for breaking the speed limit. The image that comes to mind is on the Dukes of Hazzard where Roscoe would cover a speed limit sign, cite the Duke boys for speeding, meanwhile Enos uncovers the sign and Roscoe then shows the Duke boys the sign as if it was visible the whole time :Brow: .

Just so I'm clear on this.

You're saying zero tolerance on violating a law.
Prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

So then we have to say 1 mph over gets you a ticket with no allowable speedo error which is fine with me.
So then we have to say every error or screw up gets you a fine.

Do you really want to live in such a totalitarian state?

I've known this women for almost a decade. She is the meekest, afraid of her own shadow kind of person there is. I've also had two runs in with this cop as stated above and he would not allow all five of us to talk to each other while he had us pulled over and out of our cars writing us tickets in the school parking lot (I was trying to exchange information so we could band together in court and he would not allow it). We had to stand there in absolute silence together. He enjoys his postiton of power and exercises it whenever he can. He stands outside a school parking lot and writes a ticket for everyone who pulls out without their seatbelt on. The principal began walking the parking lot as school let out to remind everyone to put their belts on and this bozo cop told him if he did that again he would be arrested.

As stated before cops are getting out of control and not using common sense.

As stated before do you really want to live in such a totalitarian state?

It is still supposed to be about traffic safety first and foremost but it is now about revenue generation only.

Mikey, take my advice, lighten up...enjoy life and have a little fun while your still young. The world is not out to get you, nor are your local cops (well, depending on how bad you've pissed them off, that may or may not be the case) but take it from me, I got so many tickets in high school I should have lost my license many times over but somehow never managed to :Do No: .

And please, if nothing else, stop believing everything that everyone tells you...remember the old adage "believe half of what you see and none of what you hear"...it is the absolute truth.

I have a friend that was on HWY 10 in MN going 60 in a 55. He was slowly passing a car but the car sped up when he got to the cars quarter panel. He stayed there as they were going the same speed. After a little bit he increase he speed to get around the car. The car speed up with him. He increase his speed some more to 75 to try and get around the guy.

The guy was an unmark cop gave him a ticket!:moonu:

Ahahahaha! Your friend should have been cited for being the idiot of the year, if nothing else! By the way, tell your friend that the law doesn't allow for you to go even one mile an hour over the speed limit to pass someone (this should be common knowledge, and I would assume he knows this if he passed his driving test) but the WORST part about this was...he was ALREADY speeding before he even attempted the pass!!!

Not a strange question at all. What is your name? Who are you? You do not have any type of signiture. Do you go to any of the Buick events?

Sure do...BPG and BG almost every year for the past several years. I have two '69 Stage 1 4-speed cars, one hardtop, one convertible. I have owned four other Stage 1 cars and numerous other Buick GS's and Riv's. I live in the Columbus area, my name is Mike, you can PM me if you would like my contact information, although it's not hard to find as I have posted it here many a times and have lots of friends on the board here. I didn't know my name was a required part of my signature though. Is it???

Okay, Cool...I guess, you have a great day too, strange introduction but I guess it's nice to meet you! By the way, I'm a BPG member too, is that something I should share? :TU: And also, if you don't get my humor, sorry...many don't at first, but rest assured, it's all in good fun.

Just telling it like it is, like it or not, and that should be pretty clear. And just to make it clear, I adamantly OPPOSE the traffic cameras too. I feel that if a ticket is to be written, there had better be a living, breathing officer writing it that witnessed the offense, otherwise I would fight it ruthlessly were I to receive a ticket from one (and by the way, I was sure I was going to be the recipient of one from Heath, but fortunately never got one in the mail).

In France the police can pull you over on a toll road, ask for your toll ticket and calculate your average speed using the time on the toll ticket, the time they pulled you over, and the miles between the toll booth and the exact spot you were pulled over.

The speed limit in France is 130 KPH (or 80.7 MPH)

I usually speed through Ohio. Especially on the interstate roads. When I get up on someone in the left lane going the limit, I blast by them on the right. I can usually tell when a cop is around. I like being a scofflaw and getting away with it. Especially in Ohio.
