I didnt take the time to read all the replies but the ohio speeding law is 5 dollars every 1 mph over and usually a 25 processing fee (for us military anyways) and we use the same ORC which is what the state uses. Pay the ticket and move on...dont want to bench warrants :)

Cameras going up all over the place here in G'ville, Florida.

Now they have come up with a new twist to get you to plead guilty here in ticket alley (Waldo, Starke, Hampton and Lawtey) on Hwy 301.

When you go to court the receptionist requires you to pick an option before she assigns a courtroom.

    These are your choices:

You can plead guilty and get no points or record of the ticket for the insurance company to see and just pay the fine. Then you appear before a judge who basically agrees and signs you out to go pay the ticket. The officer is not present and you don't know if he has shown up or not. They stay in a separate room. The judge can make you go to traffic school if he wants to as an added punishment depending on your attitude and testimony. Right to an appeal is waived by you before setting foot in the room with the judge. My 65 in a 55 was $210.00 a work zone doubles that.

    or

You can elect go to court and plead your case. If the officer is there you loose are found guilty, pay the fine and get the points. You are also not allowed to elect traffic school at this point so the record is out there for all to see. If the officer is not there you are found innocent and everythng is dropped (do you feel lucky punk). But that is a crapshoot as you don't know if he's/she's there before you have to decide which room you want to enter.
After judication you have the right to an appeal, more time off from work and you will probably loose again anyway.

    They generate their revenue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll get flamed for this I'm sure, but what the hell is wrong with simply going the speed limit? Is everything so damned important that you have to get there faster than the posted speed limit? How about leaving a few minutes early, follow the limits and get there on time? Or is this a civil disobedience thing?

I got my one and hopefully only ticket back in 2000 going 50 in a 40. I don't speed anymore. Period. I set my cruise at 70 on the highway or whatever the limit is and I just smile when I go by a cruiser. That and I bitch about people flying by me at 80+ when there's no reason to go that fast and endanger other people's lives.

What happened to obeying the law?

Chances are you go faster than 35 in some 35 zones.. Or you have a grandma in a minivan riding your ass..

i attended the re-union. coming back from the track to the hotel, the speed limit dropped from 45-50 down to 30 in just a few feet. i'm very lucky i didn't get a ticket. i think this is what bill means by it being a speed trap.

Yeah, when I'm going from a higher to a lower speed limit and coasting I probably do exceed the limit for a short distance. I'm not trying to sound like a saint, I'm not perfect, but I do my best to intentionally obey the speed limit when I drive. Otherwise they can ride my ass, flash their lights at me, honk their horn, flip me off, I don't care. I'm not getting a ticket for them, I'll let them pass me. Screw 'em.

If the circumstances in this location are genuinely bad and you literally have several feet (not yards) to slow down then that's not a fair justification for a ticket. If this is the case and I got a ticket there like some of you did I'd be pissed off too and I would fight it. Any system that issues eight thousand tickets in a month (or whatever the number was) should be reported to the D.O.T and the State Attorney General. If it's that bad, the people who successfully lobbied to remove the mayor and get the cameras removed can do the same to get the speed limit raised there. The D.O.T. sets limits (IIRC) and they will look at it and change it if they get enough complaints. They did so in a town nearby (raised the limit 10 on a stretch) and even though I don't like it, it seems to have eased the congestion a little.

Its a trap if they sit right at the speed reduction line. If you are 5 blocks into the town going over the limit you deserve it. The other trap is to sit at the speed limit sign leaving town and writing a ticket because you were at the posted limit before crossing the sign. Thats were I got it 10 years ago. You see the sign increase your speed in a small rural town before you cross the line. This was 25 mph to 55.
