    Re: Columbus Dispatch article...

Where else would a police chief say " We must find them another venue to do their burnouts safely" ?:beer

They do not say that is was mopar guys throwing rocks. It could have been some locals out causing trouble because they knew the cops were strained.:Do No:

I drove up to Heath for the Mopar event on saturday, and like I told Gary P., it was the largest gathering of people up and down the road that i've seen in a long time....there were thousands of people lined up on both sides of the road, not to mention a live band in a business parking lot!! I'd have to say that they all seemed to be a good group of guys who were just enjoying their rides.....i'd bet anything that the rock-throwing was the "local yokels" that always seem to show up....it was these clowns who were pouring water on the streets as cars were rolling by

BTW...as i rolled in from the track into town, i think that damn speed camera flashed at me slowing down to 35 from 40'ish.....if i get a ticket, i propmise you i'll fight it as i live pretty close by

The speed camera's are set at 47 mph. I have not heard of anyone getting a ticket for anything less than 47 mph.

Talking to a few of the Resturants Staff and the Hampton Inn Manager and staff they like the Buick guys...less hassle than the Mopar guys...Hampton Inn had parking lot repaved last year and the mopar guys were doing burnouts up the small hill :3gears: ...they were not happy...Brad and Duane are on top of this and we should know more on Friday.....:TU:

Oh and wild Bill how come you were the only one that asked me if I saw the light show.... :spank:

    Definately leaves a bad taste.......

Maybe I'll fill out the affadavid saying that my dog was driving.

Like I said in a previous post the Mopar Nationals can get pretty crazy. It used to take place on Brice Rd. but has migrated to Heath. The heyday of Brice Rd. was something you had to see to believe. Police helicopters and K-9 units trying to break up the crowd. Trouble usually started when 5.0 Mustang guys drove through and got beer cans thrown at their cars. One year I went with my girlfriend and she got pretty freaked out. At that time they had given up on arresting people for doing burnouts and tried arresting the people emptying coolers on the road for a burnout box. Knowing they'd be arrested people would empty a cooler and take off running and the cops would run after them. Almost simultaneously you'd have a blown hemi doing a screaming burnout, beer cans flying at a Mustang, cops chasing someone down the street and a police helicopter hovering overhead.

    Brad,

My camera ticket shows 46 mph.

The cameras are set 11 miles over the speed limit, so they go off for 46 MPH or faster.

I will have more info about all of this very soon.

    OK guys here's the scoop,

It appears the chamber of commerce had their special meeting late this morning/early afternoon and the answer is the tickets will not be waived.

However, they did state that anyone that got multiple tickets can get all but one waived. (Brad posted a link you can use to do this earlier on this thread.)

They also stated that as long as the tickets were paid, nothing would be reported to your insurance companies.

Both Brad and I explained that the response we received about this subject may have a very large impact regarding where we set up our "base camps" for next year's event. We also explained that the idea of having many hundreds of our members going through a "camera speed trap" twice a day was not appealing to us.

They understood this completely but let us know that if they did anything to waive our particular tickets, it would open the town up to class-action suits for everyone else that received tickets.

I was also told that quite a few of the town's people were up in arms regarding these cameras, and sucessfully petitioned to get this put to a vote this November. The scuttlebut is that the people in town are so pissed that the vote will go through to remove the cameras, and they should not be an issue for next year's event.

We explained we needed answers now, not next November, but that was as far as we got. We also let them know we were going to actively look into other alternatives then staying in the Heath/Hebron area.

So there it is. We did everything we could, sorry we could not do more.

Thanks for the efforts guys.....i will not go back to Heath.....i will be a wanted man in Ohio from now on

Lets see.....let off the multiple tickets for the BPG people......is'nt that a "class action" for all the others that get more than one that don't get the break..........it's like"we really don't like you enough to screw you three times so we will only screw you once and take the monetary HIT be cause we are nice people"

Ft. Rapids and bikini's in the splash pool look like next years after the track evening entertainment :Brow:

    HEATH OHIO Sucks!

Bill, they are letting off anyone with more than 1 ticket, not just us. Just go to the website I posted earlier, if you have more than one ticket, and they will dismiss all but the first. This applies not only to us "classy" Buick owners, but to even the lowly Mopar guys...

And can you be certain that they are calibrated or set up correctly ?

People....things(especially electronics) can be "calibrated" to read higher than actual speed sensed so that they get an extra 5-10...even 20% more "offenders" each month.....even set-up to sense or register the offender only if it's a non-local or out-of-state plate on the vehicle.......don't get me started
