Add another ticket to the list Dave B from Mass. The four of us were going to dinner in his x and got clocked at 47mpg via the camera
More interesting general info on the topic of the merit or lack thereof of speeding cameras: http://www.notbored.org/traffic-cameras.html http://www.lewrockwell.com/suprynowicz/suprynowicz62.html http://www.ticketassassin.com/autoenf_toc.html http://www.motorists.org/photoenforce/home/inside-red-light-cameras/
I think you Ohio residents are going about this the wrong way.. protests to the municipality that is benefiting financially from the photo enforcement camera's probably won't yield much but lip service from the politicians. Especially if they are sending out thousands of tickets a month. That's a big chunk of change coming in. We struck down the red light cams in the Minnesota supreme court. http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/16/1688.asp Of course we may have different technicalities written into the law, but I would suggest that an Ohio resident's law advocacy group do a careful study of the codes in regard to driving offenses, and then if required, lobby the legislature to change the code so that these cameras are no longer able to be used. Mn case was already posted earlier. Unless you have a local attorney to take them on locally the Chamber of Commerce way is best. The local Merchants are after them big time. Two members of the Tourism Bureau received tickets personally and they are frosted about it. The locals filed a petition and quickly got enough signatures to get the issue on the November ballot as a referendum. No politician will want to get voted out over this. The Track owner will have a lot of horsepower in the matter. I suspect you will see the Heath Mayor run under the Hen House pretty soon. Plus the MOPAR Nationals guys which are huge in number are just getting their tickets. They will weigh in big time.
We also had a supposed member of the city council come around to the host hotel wednesday night handing out free "Blizzard" coupons. It appears he owns a few Dairy Queens in the area and wanted to let everyone know he was unhappy with the decision to install the cameras. There was no question he knew this was going to be a problem. Duane
If you got multiple tickets see the following link. They will automatically dismiss all but the first. We're working on the rest between the Chamber, the track and local businesses. They want us back BADLY. Link for dismissal of more than one ticket: http://www.marionstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/BF/20090806/NEWS01/908060334 . Its a start, at least. Like I said, we're all working on things.
Great job Brad, please keep us updated. Wow, you got some juice there. I bet you wouldn't see other event organizers doing this:TU: That says a lot for how good the BPG is.
I want to thank everyone for the great responce to this post. Has anyone hear from the mopar guy's? Thanks Stan
The MOPAR guys just left this past Sunday. With these camera units issuing 10,000 tickets per month I suspect the MOPAR boys have not received their mail presents just yet. And there were a lot more of MOPARs than there were Buicks. I thnk they have thousands of cars that show up the Thursday right after the BPG leaves. I hope there may be someone here already registered on the MOPAR sites that can link this in this thread over there. We all can use their leverage.
Thanks for the hard work Brad on the tickets.....just tell them you have members that will never come back if it costs them a $100 on top of the hundreds they already spent.......i vote with my wallet.:dollar: The Mopar boys should be getting them in the next few days. Peace WildBill ....other than the ticket....i enjoyed my visit to Heath:3gears:
Note to Alan Wander...... hey bud if you get a ticket in the mail just forward it to me and I'll take care of it.......Dont tell Beth though...k? D.
Hey Guys, I received my picture in the mail yesterday. It was not a shock to me since the flash of that camera about scared the $#^! out of me. Later
Columbus Dispatch article... From today's Columbus Dispatch. It doesn't look like the Mopar Boys will have much respect from even the locals. Sounds like they really made real jerks of themselves. This will not help our cause...
Re: Columbus Dispatch article... I would think it would......no headlines about us straining the local HPD  Peace WildBill
I was gonna ask what mopar guys are like , but never mind. Throwing rocks at cops? Hell I"VE never been that mad at a LEO!
Nope. And other than the speeding tickets, no one got any other violations (that I know of). We were all good little boys and girls, well, except for Wild Bill
It just wouldn't be the same without that "impromptu" night time sparkle show that spontaneously erupted from parts unknown, which just so happened to be right behind one of the hotels. Coincidentally, WildBill re-appeared as soon as it ended. He must've been changing in some old phone booth close by. It's sad to hear about so many getting snagged by those cameras, but if everyone paid attention to the speed limit signs, perhaps no tickets would've been issued. No tickets issued, generally means cameras go away, pretty basic. It is an unfortunate fact of life today that many government agencies see these things as little more than a cash cow to be milked. They will sacrifice all forethought as to what the long term ramifications mean for short term gain. I have yet to be caught by one, and work to keep it that way. We have something like 30 of them al over Winnipeg.
10,000 Violations in 3 weeks ??? Looks like the only form of tourism in that little town is the track. Sounds like they are trying to bite the hand that feeds them. Move the thing to KC or Dallas ,then more western members can enjoy it. DL
Re: Columbus Dispatch article... For the MOPARS the locals actually turned out in record numbers with lawn chairs and lined both sides of 79 (right where the cameas are) for a mile just to see the cars. By the way, they cheered the cars as they came by and appeared to really enjoy the show.
