    Wow.. I'm an "@" now?

    I don't think I am hip enough to be an "@"... :D

Seriously, yes, I have considered every one of your points.. even before I made the forum, and a few times since it has been open.

We are probably better off without it, but there are many of us who need the outlet, like the news from a different perspective, and it's hard to argue with the traffic...

So I left it up to you guys, this is truly a private vote, even I cannot see who voted.. unless I go dig thru the database, which I don't know how to do, and would not bother.

The question will be settled tonight.

And yes, I will keep the Meems thread... or however that is spelled.. see, I told you i as not hip enough to have a twitter handle.. ;)

...or is it because I think twitter is the scourge of the devil.. but that's another subject all together, now isn't it... :p

Jim, the "@" symbol is used here to denote which specific person a comment is intended for when there is a larger audience. It's not a Twitter reference in this case.

    Carry on...

Jim couldn't you or a moderator just delete any post that doesn't address the virus, I personally don't like bashing style politics or bashing in general!

That's no good Bob, because there is one mod that likes to play narrative police that takes his power way to far as it is now!

Or maybe there is one mod who thinks he is doing his job the way it should be done! We don't want to be like the Trump haters who get p-ssied and stay that way beyond all reasoning!

The real problem now is that there are not enough Respiratory people that know how to run the ventilators that was a different course when I was taking classes for Physical Therapy Assistant. The RN's may not have enough knowledge to run those and that can be a problem.

Respiratory Specialist was a class all by itself when I was at the college so this may come to play in New York and other places.

I just heard on the news that Ohio may be in a better place when it comes to the ventilators and Hospitals

I’ve stayed away from these discussions, mostly out of respect for others opinions. Admittedly, I lurked. The primary rationale for just peeking and not joining in was formed in something I read the other day, and I found it prescient, due to the fact that it was written 244 years ago (and somehow finding itself applicable today):

“The man of system... is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamored with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government, that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it.” —Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations

I know I’m guilty of that.

    ‘nuff said.

The way that certain mod "thinks it should be done", still deletes some of my post and they are still about the virus without political bashing! Although my posts do go against his left leaning views that challenge the F-N narrative and some of them even debunked his death blossom charts he likes so much to post. Do you think that was unbiased post deleting?

Its funny that several other mods will read the posts before they are removed from that other mod but aren't the ones to remove it even though they seen it first.

I should of prefaced my other post that ACTUAL virus talk (updates on members, their locations, etc) is fine with me but this turned into a politics section quite quick. I’ve also seen some racist undertones as well.

Derek, my issue with that is that I do happen to know a lot about the issues surrounding Coronavirus (much of it political) so it's hard not to share that information where I may be able to contribute a unique perspective (you do "sneek" in there too as IIRC you liked my post today;)).

I just came back on here Thu. for the 1st time since mid. Oct. (I admittedly lurked as a guest maybe 3x - I saw Bill came back so...). My absence (TY to those of you who noticed & reached out to me) was related to politics and how it was (or was not) handled. If anyone (or everyone) noticed, a certain member that I believe James is referring to as now being suspended changed the political leaning they "proud"ly had displayed in their avatar. To those of you who were happy to see that avatar change, "you're welcome." To those who weren't...

Now IMHO, and based on the "rules" that seemingly should've been handled LONG before I had to open my big mouth and handle it in a public reply on a thread I started about a reporter that had climbed in/on people's show cars when he was there with only a cameraman and subsequently damaged some cars (I was also called names in the subsequent PM from that same "unnamed" member). My blood would boil every time I saw one his posts as every one was by definition "political" & I'd had enough when he excused said reporter "because he seemed like he was on drugs" (yes, I was triggered & no he didn't explicitly excuse the actions but it was implied). Had he not had that in his avatar, I probably would've let it slide w/o comment. I never did see his public reply to me but based on the PM from him & the timing, I know he saw mine:). I'm not sure if that avatar was changed voluntarily or at the insistence of "management." Admittedly my reply was political as it had to be and I may (?) have even taken it too far but I was very respectful in explaining my position and said that I'd be happy to discuss politics with said member anywhere else but here (I wish I'd Cc'd or screenshot my reply).

What really led to my absence however was how the mod (whichever one it was @ 3:30AM EST?) handled it. I'd asked simply, as is customary, that the thread be closed. Instead my reply was deleted, the other member's reply deleted, & afaik, my entire thread was subsequently deleted. I'm back, but still pissed.

My point here, and that I made in my reply to said unnamed member, is that I come here as my only respite from politics on the interweb. I don't want to see it here. I try to steer clear of OT threads where it looks like it may come up but in many cases it's even injected into threads started on a Buick/automotive topic and, as it nearly always does, it quickly gets out of hand a d the "rules" are IMHO selectively applied to some and not others.

I'm too involved in it all outside of here and too passionate about it and our Country. In the case of Xi's Disease (aka WuFlu or Chinese Disease) , I'm involved in a cursory manner in the Health Care field so I know more than I care to about this topic & could write at length on the subject. Upon return, I figured there may be some talk about the subject on here but I found out there was this "new" forum (where politics was "sorta" allowed) and swore I was going to stay away from it but sure enough, based on looking at the "new posts" my 1st post of any significance was on a thread about the virus (3M & the mask shortage specifically: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/3m-selling-out-america.355836/page-2#post-3046474) in that forum because I felt I had something to add but it was also unavoidably political (I could've made it much moreso).

Inside this V8 "box" I don't want to know anyone's political views. We all share a common interest. There are guys on here who I know their political views because we've discussed it outside of this arena and honestly, there are members that I know outside of here that I don't want to know their leanings simply because I suspect they may be opposite of mine and I wouldn't want to have that become an issue between us in this hyperpartisan toxic political environment we live in where EVERYTHING is political.

That being said, it is THE only topic of the day (well, actually there is other news breaking regularly with respect to the biggest political scandal in our nations history but...). We're living in unprecedented times that I never thought I'd see but I still (very reluctantly) voted to remove the forum (keep the memes;)). Should the topic be 100% off limits? No. But it should be (very) limited in scope IMHO. Hopefully I thread the political needle here.

Twitter isn't nearly as much of a cesspool even with respect to politics as it used to be. It's actually quite a good source for breaking news, esp. from the ground (i.e. citizen reporting). I often see news on there before on the aggregator sites. In the health care arena, I follow probably 4K Docs/Nurses, etc. & many other involved & it's a great source of information/opinion/links to articles, organizations, networking, etc. Even racing info (NASCAR, WOO, etc.) is pretty decent.

So like Jim posted before the political discussions will be limited to that “virus section”. I think we all agree that politics interfering with a Buick topic is counter productive. The Bench and the other sections should be politic free zones so that we can enjoy that aspect that so many of us love about this forum. And if people don’t want to read or engage in the virus section then they should just not open it up.
