I own a boating related forum, thats miniscule compared to BUICK V8. Pat and I started it due to the need of being anti censor based. We were for the most part, large yacht owners who were banned from a specific builders' forum, owned by That builder. OK. I get it. His sand box, his ball, his rules. All the problems arose from the zealous moderators there, most of whom werent even boat owners. A lot of know it all copy and paste exspurts.

So now we have a place to go where all the members are moderators, and anything (as long as its legal between consenting adults) is allowed. No censorship. After 10 posts, you are qualified to enter the section "The black water tank; where all the crap goes" if you so elect to go there. Youre skin better be like leather or carbon fibre because it can get pretty tough in there at times. We even use software that automatically pics up certain verbiage and uses a softer more palatable language if it has to balance on a knife blade.

Since John and I evidently have the same twisted humor (!!), put it way down at the bottom of the page. We have the bench, and wrenching secrets etc etc.. Now maybe its time for a "Locker Room Lawyers" forum. Just a thought. Bill at www.flybridge.proboards.com

    https://flybridge.proboards.com/

Note the very first section....You wont even see the Black Water Tank until youre eligible. ws

Personally, I dont come here to be exposed to yet another source of rumour and conjecture about Covid 19. If I want rumour and conjecture I'll go to the BBC, they do it so well.

Its not the Virus forum that's the problem . Its those that turned it into Politics . And it was allowed .

We have a Help from above section, that in the beginning certain people had to enter to
inject their opinions unnecessarily. That has been going well for some time. Not real busy and sometimes it is. Put there as a place of comfort and understanding. I as one appreciate it.
As for the virus section the standard company of people that get many threads shut down or deleted are the ones doing their thing again. Which in turn escalates the emotional response from many who had been keeping things civil and constructive on both sides. I like to see the positive in people especially the people who care about this country.

I strongly disagree with this... we have learned over the last few decades that absolutely nothing happens in this country, that will not be manipulated by the media for political advantage. Conservative media will push it one way, the mainstream media pushes it the other.

And the mainstream media gets plenty of help from some in Academia. So everything is suspect now.

You have to be able to slice thru the BS on both sides, to uncover the truth.. It takes listening to all sides, doing reasearch to pull up transcripts to see what was really said, so you can sort out who is twisting who's words.

Keep it alive. It gives you the opportunity to see what "normal" people see and are dealing with rather than all the talking heads on the major "news" outlets. Few of them are covering how we are dealing with self quarantine, boredom, concerns for those that have people on the front lines, or Buick projects.
As some have said "if you don't like it don't look" The threads are clearly labeled.

One note.... I see that some folks concern on this has to do with the threads showing up in the "new posts" button results.. I believe I can manipulate the controls to have those posts not show up in that search result.

You would literally have to go into the forum to see the threads.

I mention this because the vote has turned around rather dramatically overnight.. and I don't want this to be an issue for anyone.

    An old Spanish joke:

The Mother Superior from a local convent calls the police, outraged because from her convent they can see nude people on a nearby beach. Police come to assess the situation and the municipality agrees to build a tall wall separating the two.

A week later, the Mother Superior calls again, equally outraged. Police come again, puzzled about what the problem is. The Mother Superior proceeds to grab a ladder, climbs over the wall and says: "See? We can see nude people from here!"

Of course you disagree with the truth Jim as the political comments align with your Opinion . You should never have allowed the comments that have gone on in this forum . But you are the owner . Its sad what V8 Buick has become .

It’s the injection of politics into the forum that causes the strife. The door to politics is either open or closed. There is no in between. I thought that we learned that lesson here more than 10 years ago. I hate to see the sudden relapse that has taken place. What you see now is what you will continue to see as long as the injection of politics is permitted.

No good can come from this. I said it from the beginning. I am glad everything virus is in one Forum, I can just avoid going there. Having said that, I can't believe anyone thinks that this can be discussed rationally. This is a political issue, no getting away from it. We now live in a fact free, conspiracy theory world, everyone has there own facts. You can find ANYTHING you want on the net to support your position. That is what makes it an exercise in futility.

I could say a lot of negative/bad things about trump and back it up with proof. But I don't come here for that purpose and I'm not going to be in the middle of some dumb stupid argument.

You're not even from the USA, so I don't understand why you feel the need to support trump like you do.

Seems to me like your trying to start a riffle here.

Just my 2cents and that's all I'm gonna say.

Based on the amount of traffic, threads, and posts in that section it appears that many, many members are spending their time there so it should be left open.

As far as I know, you have only suspended one board member for violating your rules, but that was for crossing the line of name calling to another board member, not a public figure/politician. That’s a pretty small percentage compared to how many posts have been written regarding the virus.

    Jim,
If you turn the "new posts" button off for that section then I would never see it, as that is generally how I view this board.

If you start doing that then people are going to want you to do the same thing for the "Help from above" section etc.

Is that where you want to go with this?

Jim, While you're at it would it be too much trouble to put all of the fake gsx's in their own thread please? I've seen too many already.

Nope, just throwing it out there Duane.

I too think if you don't want to read it, don't click the thread.

And my contention is that information is the answer to finding the truth, regardless of if that information is political in nature or not. Now when we are talking cars, there is no reason to interject politics. but this is not about cars... much more important than that.

You can't look at a graph of modeling, without understanding the background of the modeler.. and the meatholigy to some extent, and there is not way to discuss that, and leave politics out.

Not since nearly the entire print and electronic media, stood up in January of 2017, and pronounced Donald Trump a threat to national security, and appointed themselves as the savior of the republic...

It's interesting how the left wing of the board seems to not want to discuss the politics of this.. isn't it. o_O

    I agree with everything you said except I disagree with the above statement and here's why;

Its very frustrating when a bill or policy is going through congress that would destroy our car hobby(addiction) and we can't even discuss or even point it out! Would be nice to do that at least so other car people know to contact their congress people to voice their opinion to them to try to shut down bad hobby car policy.

Its to bad that a lot of people aren't adult enough to discuss politics being how its such a HUGE part of life in general.:(

I don't have ANY problem with the Help from Above Forum, never have. Turning off the new post function for the Virus Forum would be a very good compromise IMO. Compromise, something we lack, something we sorely need.
