This has been brought up, and supported by several members.

I can go either way here folks... do we really need this? Plenty of sources for news on this. Removal of that forum will put any virus related discussion directly into the ban on politics on the board here. This is politically charged issue, there is simply no way to discuss this accurately without the political component...and it's going to get way worst.. as the actual health crisis subsides, the blame game is going to pick up, bet on that.

Anyhow... It's been interesting and insightful.

I hit "Post reply" just so I could be first.
Back to my thoughts... Some people, R and D, expressed their thoughts, feelings, and concerns in a very productive way. Some people didn't. I have a buddy, yes, I'll call him a buddy, Steve in Ft. Lauderdale. I always knew by the way he posted stuff that he was a crazy liberal. And I am sure he knows I am a crazy conservative. I "liked" his post about coming to the "Buick Get Togethers" at my house. Yes, I have the Trump 2020 flag flying on my flagpole, Trump signs in my yard, and whatever else. We may not agree politically, but we do have a lot in common. And that is awesome!

I'm going to vote no. "Keep the forum going." Why? I am tired of people being negative, on both sides. Maybe, just maybe the thread can change into positive?
I don't know about the rest of you, but society seems pretty friendly on the outside. At least down here in South Florida. You know we have hurricanes. Some years, Holy sheet!!! One hurricane, Wilma, we went 3 1/2 weeks with out electric!!!!!! NOTHING!!!!! No stores were open, I mean NOTHING!!! This is NOT even close to having nothing! We can still drive around, even if they've given orders to stay at home. Try no electric anywhere for weeks, roads clogged with broken trees, and sweating your azz off! This virus is a breeze compared to that.
Sorry for rambling. Can't we all just play well together???

If the virus forum is removed, will that make all virus info taboo?

Re: I started a thread last week about a country singer who lost his battle against Covid-19. Nothing political involved, it was more of an FYI.

Yup, I was hoping we could have a civil discussion, and it has not been so bad in my eyes, but I really want the membership to decide this..

I understand folks worried about creating too much bad blood, and having a "get away spot" from what I fear is the awful news to come.

I also understand that knowledge is power, and I really don't mind discussing politics.. but then again, I don't get excited about much... certainly not that.

My stance on politics is that we should have strict term limits, and government funded elections, once you get past a certain support level.

And a total ban on special interest groups pac groups, and all political contributions.

Money is the root of all evil, and it does not care which party your in.

For stuff like that, we would determine that on a case by case basis.

Yes, all virus related discussion would be taboo. I had thoughts of trying to do this without the politics, but it would be tough to do... It's hard to have a discussion about projections, death rates ect, without the politics that are involved in that.
This is seminal event in our history, and forces on all sides of the spectrum will be seeking to gain political advantage because of it.

    Sad. but true..

    Jim,
I'm sorry. You're trying to be serious, and I don't have a serious bone in my body. Could I have my thread back, "Hot non-essential woman of Palm Springs?"
I know it wasn't Buick related, and the member that accused me of being a sex offender apologized to me. I told him, "Don't even worry about it." No offense was ever taken by me. What if I park my Buick in the front yard and they just happen to be walking by? So many women I have never seen cause I'm sure they're bored from being stuck inside. Please smile. I laugh ALL the time!!!

And right now the votes are 10-3 against the virus section. All i can tell you is this is the most critical issue to face this country and it's people. The decisions we make right now will affect US....our children and our grand children's futures. You can stick your head in the sand and say ....THIS IS A CAR FORUM.......no virus discussion?....but look what is happening now ....if we don't discuss now and work for solutions....it can(and will) throw your enjoyment of your classic Buick out the window.....
So Jim has made the forum up for a vote......i appreciate him for that but i am afraid too many here are afraid to confront this situation and our discussion and debate will be lost at a time we might need it most......

Where do you stand on this.....both sides invited.

    Peace WildBill

WildBill for me it has nothing to do with sticking your head in sand.
If I want a steak I don't go to a donut shop, I go to a steak house.
If I want virus info I don't think about going to a car forum like this.

    This is true.
But it seems to me that the virus is infecting more than just one thread on here.
    Pun intended;)

  15. TrunkMonkey

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

    One cannot sanitize the truth.
(I say leave it, and perhaps create an "anything goes" thread for the specific place for all discussions "political". And if possible (board software), make it only visible to folks that choose to "follow", and not show under general "new/unread" postings)

Ironic that such discussion will result in those who fear the truth not being what they believe it to be, wanting silence when their beliefs are found wanting in the face of contrary thought.

Sort of like eating meat. We love a good steak. But seeing the entire process from a newborn calf birthed, grown, cared for and ultimately slaughtered, processed until it is presented on a plate with a sprig of parsley and loaded baked potato from Idaho is something that we rather not talk about, just put it on the plate, refill my glass and off away with the server...

We do not live in a world where all things are compartmentalized.

If this is going to be a "car only" forum, then folks on all sides will have to decide to step in here and leave any and everything "not car" at the door.

But it is telling that so many will try and sneak in some "political" (that is the real issue, supposedly, that some folks seem to be taking issue about) point any chance they see an opportunity to do so, and a great number of those same people will then bitch about the "political crap" being interjected.

When the real issue is those folks find their contribution rebutted/rebuked and things not going the way they hoped, so they cry "foul".

Nuke it, or not, it will not result in a "cure", any more than putting a flesh-colored bandaid (oops, that might offend someone) on Melanoma. You may not see it anymore, but it's still cancer and gonna destroy life.

I do think we have already dispelled the Trump haters so I don’t really mind either way. I will say I haven’t seen any substantial or even week evidence against our president.

If people don't like that topic, don't go there. It is that simple. Why take it away from those who find it useful? (I never read it, for the record)

This is an attitude that I find far too prevalent these days.

Nice jab. Cleary you have won a contest no one else is having. This is a perfect example of why the threads in the virus section get derailed.

Keep the section and lose the politcs. The government's response can be praised or nitpicked. I am quite sure we can discuss the virus and not talk about the left vs. the right.

I say if you don't like it, don't look at it!:p:D

As far as "bad blood between members", with the rules in place I really don't see that. I really appreciate the different view points on both sides, how else can we learn if we stick to our own echo chambers?

As far as "other sections getting less traffic", everything is shut down for crying out loud so not much going on to post in the other sections.:D

Plus this is temporary, when the CV is gone, so will the CV section.

I think it will be over with sooner than we think because of the thread hugger posted about finding a cure! Until then don't get your panties in a bunch.

Is there any way the ignore function can be used for people that don't even want to see the section in the new posts?

Some folks need a place to vent while others will be comforted by just discussing it with folks who are going through the same issues.

I also have never been able to understand why a large percentage of people in this country absolutely do NOT have the maturity or self-control to just "Scroll On By'
if they see something they don't like, but I am also the type of person that cannot be offended. I know my own qualities & my own faults very well, so does God. Everything after that is just meaningless.
