If it's too loud, I'm too old, I guess. I've never liked systems that drop off in front of the rear axle, even though I've done it to a couple or three cars. The drone gets to sounding like a trash truck after awhile, to me. I've had the headers into the Flowmaster 2-1/2 inch system on my Skylark for awhile now, but had 2-1/4" mufflers put on because I couldn't take the noise from the original 20 series "mufflers". I could immediately feel the decrease in performance, though. My sons could tell when I was coming home a couple blocks before I got there with the 2-1/2" jobs. OK for drags, but I drove 90+ miles a day. I want to be able to hear my grand kids when they talk to me.

This is an old thread. That being said.... Theres loud/healthy exhaust ( which I like)and then theres loud/ obnoxious.(which I don't)

Like when my son chopped off the pipes on his V6 Lumina in front of the converter and thought he had a race car. I never saw someone thrash out a car as quickly as he did that 1 owner 80K mile 1990 Lumina.

I'm planning on putting quiet mufflers back on mine. I want it to be pretty silent when idleing. Compared to the dumped glasspacks I have now, anything will be silent.

I have a 3 inch Flowmaster exhaust behind my Stage One engine and for me,it's too loud.
    It does sound great though.

I like 'em loud and lumpy. I've got dual 40 Series Flomasters dumped. Sounds good and gets a lot of looks.

Guess my new exhaust sounds loud enough, I got my fare share of toyotas revving at me and smiling to try and get me to rev up the car and of course at walmart there was a guy motioning for me to light em up :3gears:

My car with the loudest exhaust should be the most silenced IMHO...really need to change the mufflers on the Estate Wagon :boring:

Dude that sounds mean!!! Not what you would expect when a station wagon pulls up!

I am loving my new SpinTechs. They are louder and deeper than 40 series, and have a lumpy sound, but without the flowmaster tin can sound. There isn't any drone while cruising, there actually is some drone while idling because the tone is so deep and throaty. The SpinsTechs definitely have a totally unique sound to them.

Exhaust? And what are these "muff fuller's" I hear talk of? They keep saying to shut the car off at the drive thro................

I have it both ways. have dual exhaust that go through some mufflers unsure of what brand, and have cut outs ahead of the mufflers.

Even with the cutouts open cruising at 55mph I can still hear myself think, and that's with an ST-300 trans! course I'm pretty sure i have a high gearing in the rear, I haven't owned it long enough to figure it out and I don't have a tach on board yet (my guess is around 2.7X or so)

The first thing I did after buying my Buick was put on dual exhaust and
    "Thrush" glass pack mufflers.

    Gotta Love It!

Loud. Could be louder, but I think it probably already annoys the neighbor's firing up at 5:30 in the morning for warm up before work :Brow:

I think the car is the ultimate deciding factor. The Wildcat has Duals and a loud deep rumble. It's great for the daytime cruizing but I'd never fire it up at night or I'd wake the neighbor's kids (Since we have kids, I know how mean that is).
The caddy's whisper quite with the smoothest V8 around, I drive that if I'm going to be pulling in late at night. I think it'd be out of place to have a thundering caddy.

And if it's going to be loud, IT'S GOTTA BE A V8!

I heard a V10 viper take off the other day, and it sounded like **** compared to a V8.

My truck with spin techs is the same behind a pretty healthy small block. Very nice rumble at idle, REALLY wakes up at exactly 2500 rpm yet doesn't drone. Even my wife tolerates it on long road trips. I plan on a turbo in the skylark so ill be more interested in hearing some spooling :)
