I am a bit leery for posting as I am a black man. But GZ was well within his rights to defend himself as was TM "if" he was being followed and confronted. The only concern I have is why GZ did not identify himself as neighborhood watch when TM approached his vehicle while on the phone with the 911 operator. Truthfully, there was no case against GZ given the evidence that was allowed. But, as usual pressure from politicians was the only reason he was charged. I pray that I nor anyone I know ever have to know the pain of burying their child. Just my .02

Its funny here in NY the police had a stop and frisk program but then minorities said they were racially profiled and stopped based on the color if their skin. This program was examined and major changes occurred due to pressure from civil rights activists. Now the same people that cried they were stopped are now upset because there isnt enough police presence in these crime infested neighborhoods. Boo hoo. Too bad. I feel bad for little kids that get shot but its what the police were trying to do, reduce crime. How come if kids getting killed by gunfire and gang violence is so important to all these political groups then how come not one news program or politician or especially our"president" hasnt made one mention of the unbelievable violence in Chicago? How come obama hasnt said any of the black kids killed in chicago may have possibly looked like his son? Obama is a jerk off and so are all the posers that made this kid out to a saint. How come racism only seems to go one way?

Just pointing out the obvious...................there are shootings everyday..............some live........ some die. There are always 2 sides of the story.

What makes this case so special?

I watch the Chicago news everyday.............shootings everynight and some in the day. I don't see national publicity on them.

I thought after the verdict this wouldn't be talked about anymore. Myself personally I could care less about either party at this point.

Now it will be about the money in a civil suit .................which I'm thinking was the actual point of the publicity and the big push by the parents. Time to cash in and make "lifetime" movies, book deals etc.

Some people out in the world need to move on and look for a job rather than protesting and wasting time with things that have nothing to do with them. Wait they don't have to find a job with the way things do this day and age!

I think it's just crap this is still in the focal point and that's fueling the fire.

your into a whole different can of worms................actually i think you have a box of chickens instead johnny lark. granted i agree with you it really has nothing to do with mz or tm other than the idiots that blew it up. but your right if people would just let the police do there job crime would reduce. problem is just like mz or tm they rather take sh!t into there own hands or have control over it than let the police handle it. mindset of most ppl are police useless and dont want them until they actually need them then its why arent the police doing more.....................

I'm ready to outlaw the the practice of classifying anyone by race.. In this day and time, other than create a division, what difference does it make??? How can you ever elimate raceism if you have to declare a "race"???

I sold something on craigslist today to a very nice guy that looked different than me.. Just another one of the 7 billion for me.. I helped him load it on the trailer and we talked for a while..

He was dressed in a work shirt and looked like a hard working guy. Had he pulled up in pants hanging way down and a hoodie and looking all "gangsta" I probably would have stuffed my 9 into my waistband before I went out. No matter what I percieved his race to be..

    I'm just saying..

Historically, race WASN'T always a means of identifying someone. In fact, race is a relatively recent concept started by the African slave trade. Back before then, a person's place of birth was how they identified themselves, and slaves were from all areas. I imagine culture was a lot more diverse back then.

Why Chicago and not another violent place like Detroit, Brooklyn, Newark, Gary, or Memphis, among others? Is there a reason why you chose Chicago?

    So here's your answer:

There's a lot of equity in Whites being afraid of Blacks. It's quite possible that Zimmerman unconsciously profiled Trayvon. And if he didn't, it's still a topic of discussion. Just look at some of the post above this - saggy pants and undies is a sign that one should protect himself from these "thugs."

Does this really need to be explained?

And why do you assume the kid wasn't a saint? The level some people have gone to undermine the kid's integrity, suggesting he's a pot-smoking thug who couldn't be trusted, is a shining example why this case is in the public's consciousness, and why Blacks still complain about the inequality that's institutionalized in our society.

Again, you can blame the media all you want, but I think we ourselves are to blame.

    From Jason Cook:
    Agreed.

I remember the case and remember feeling the President spoke out of line. This is pretty interesting, and the circumstances of the two men are similar in many ways because it involves an escalation that could have been avoided, although in this case it didn't turn violent:

Ok so lets say Brooklyn. Any difference? No. People get killed everywhere. But only when race is involved is it a national story. i find it interesting how its automatically assumed that white people are the only ones that can be racists. And lets say trayvon was a great kid, if he was kicking ur ass what would u have done? Try to talk to him about how violence is wrong?

Court cases are everywhere, but somehow people latched onto Casey Anthony.

Or (for local flavor) the cop rape trial.

I already stated why I think Zimmerman's story made national news:

    - Possible institutionalized racism
    - Dead kid was unarmed
    - Possible rogue cop

It's a combination that's much different than the gang shootings or random acts of violence that hit big cities every day.

I didn't read all of this, but there had be be something ugly going on here to go 6 pages..

A guy steps away from the computer for a few days and the natives go wild.. :Comp:

I do agree that the media blows these things up for their own purposes.. the verdict is in, but they still won't quit on it, saw 2 stories about it on the local news.

Anyway.. this one has run it's course, let's move on.
