    Thanks Mike,

I'll check out the clearance with the heat shield.

I purchased the TA Super Comps and had them ceramic coated locally.

As far as the wiring, I'm going with an external solenoid to avoid the heat soak.

This all seemed a lot less complicated back in the 80's when I built a Kenne-Bell 462 and swapped it out in place of my 400 in my first 69 GS400 (4-spd).

I used the Hooker super comps then ... one tube was a separate push in piece that went around the frame!! REMEMBER THAT??

OK, I just got my package from AM&P and these guys are a class act all the way.

All the specs presented in a really nice fashion.

The goodies, I'll scan this later but WOW:

He did several pulls but at 32 degrees timing it was 534.6 trq @ 3500 and stayed above 500 even as it hit HP peak at 5500 (550.9).

    Torque peak was @ 566.8 @ 4600

I can't wait to get this thing in !!

Did any of you guys have to do any creative plumbing with your SP1's?

The 1/8 and 1/4 vacuum ports for the PB and tranny. I had to make several trips and finally ACE hardware had the goods to accommodate my needs.

I broke the PB fitting during the 400 removal .....

I'll take a look at the SP1 tonite - I honestly cant remember what I did.

As for the heater shield - mine too sits on the shelf. Definately wasn't going on with the trans cooler lines and headers down there

Nothing beyond going to the hardware store and getting the proper fittings.

While we're on the SP1 subject, does the stock throttle cable work? I noticed that TA sells a TA1260A that is 1" longer specifically for the SPn series of manifolds.

Also does the stock linkage bracket work?

Finally, does the return spring holder work as well?

I figured I'd get the scoop before I tried hooking it all up in case I need to order something.

    Thanks guys!

For anyone who is interested here are two of my dyno pulls.

One is at 32* and the other is at 34*. He backed it out to 32* before he shipped it.

    Scotty,
With the Q-jet, I was able to use the stock cable bracket and stock cable. With the Holley, I used the AED Billet throttle bracket. It accepts the stock GM cable, and the bracket is adjustable to get Wide Open Throttle. It also has an integral double spring that is also adjustable. Part # is AED 6600. Mine is in Red, but they come in other colors. Kinda pricey, but well worth it IMHO.

The picture shows the Morse cable attachment , but the 6600 has the Chevy (square) bracket.

    Scotty,

Nice dyno sheets. Are those the correct jet sizes for you Quick Fuel carb, or were they left over in the computer, from another test?

I have an SP-1, and a Holley HP 1000, and was able to use my factory throttle cable and bracketry. I did however need to buy a throttle ball assortment from Holley, to get the correct ball size, for the push on connector. I may just be lucky, or I am running on the edge of acceptable tolerances. Don't know which, but at the moment, it seems to be working for me. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Thanks guys for the SP1 info!

I'll check with Mike about the jet sizes ... do they appear too big or too small?

I am no expert, in fact I am trying to learn myself. They look a bit small to me, compared to what my Holley came with. Mine came with #84 jets all around. I am not saying that what I have is correct, I have been having some issues, that may or may not be due to jet size. I would assume that Mike ordered the correct carb for your application, and your A/F readings look right, just trying to verify the info presented. I know that my dyno sheet was wrong in that respect. Thanks for the help.

Mike actually leaned out the primaries because it was fouling plugs during break in and pulls. He tooled around with the QF 830 and the 850, but wound up using the smaller (size wise) 850.

Looks like it is going in Saturday if all goes well (meaning my buddies getting over here).

It's all set .... INSTALL TOMORROW!!!

The funny thing is that the same guy who helped my back in 81 is helping me tomorrow. Of course, my best friend. I have photos of us putting in the Kenne-Bell 462 in my first 69 GS400 4-spd back in 1981. Maybe I should scan those ...hmmmmmmmmm

I'll post pictures.

    Good Luck Scotty !!

Yeah - scan and PRINT a nice big picture of the '81 install ... and prop it ontop of the new motor hanging from the crane just as its being lowered into the engine bay and snap that picture

Its 8:32a - is it done yet ?!?!?

...wish I had a picture of Larry the Wizard and I laying in my driveway covered in a few gallons of tranny fluid. That would have been a good one for the garage wall

Well, my buddy was laid up so I spent the day continuing to clean bolts and brackets and such. We'll see about tomorrow.

So Alan and Larry, who has lightened whose wallet the most over the past 20 or so years??

Alan and I have never lined up at the strip, believe it or not, and we haven't bet any money either. 20 or 30 years, I only know Alan since 2000. I really don't like to mess around on the street. I like driving my GS too much to jeopardize that. That leaves the track. Alan is faster for now, but only by 1 or 2 tenths and 1 or 2 MPH. I think that may change when I go to another cam this Spring. We will see, but only at the track. Big Red's racing days may be over. Alan's frame has seen better days. That Buick torque has twisted it so much that the body has shifted somewhat.

Maybe some good launches in reverse will line things back up. :Brow:

The REAL answer is ... Larry hasn't had anything for me until this year. BigRed has been in the mid 12's since around '99 - I've had a Franklin tucked away in my wallet so long waiting for Hammer's challenge he'd need sunglasses If I were to take it out now

...BigRed's not done yet - but - Scotty, get that HR anti-roll bar on sooner than later

That's true, Alan had the better heads all along and has been in the 12's for as long as I can remember.

Just do me one favor Alan, Febreze that Franklin before you give it to me this Spring:laugh: :bla: :bglasses:
