Cool. I never thought about it like that Steve. He cut me a pretty good deal considering. I think it would of been alot more if I had brought it somewhere else. I think I have like 40 hours into disassembly. In sure it will be double that putting it all back together. The sad part is that the new paint is going to make all the stainless and worn pot metal look like crap against the new paint. I'll shine and clean it up as best I can. I can alawys replace it it with better specimens later on. Well, at least I got my Christmas present early this year.
Looks awesome, usually im a fan of darker colors on our year rivs, so I was very pleasantly surprised by the result.
Here's a few pics of the documentation I have with this car. The manila envelope is the actual envelope from the dealership. Notice the stock number- B125. B for Buick, car #125 maybe? The next item is the bill of sale. Jim paid considerably less than sticker as bought it as a leftover through a wholesale company. Notice the date of August 20th. The 69's were rolling out very soon. The car was driven down from Connecticut to his house. He moved at the same time he bought the car so his old address shows up on the paperwork. The other piece I have is the dealer installed accessories receipt. I assume this was taped to the glass next to the window sticker. You can see the remains of the glue. A little over $6300! Bear in mind that a new Chevy was about $2800. I have much more stuff. The loan paperwork from the bank, the POP, the little envelope the keys came in, and the registration of the 63 Olds that he sold in order to buy the Riv. The only thing that I dont have is the window sticker. I always assumed that it had been removed prior to delivery. He seemed to of saved everything else. No matter, Mike Trom hooked me up with a replacement.
Maybe a little longer Jayson, if you count all the fit 'n fiddle time + refurbishing the stainless and pot metal parts, and don't forget time spent on that front plastic grill. Just don't rush it for the sake of getting it finished - take your time, and it will gradually all come together - one piece at a time. . . . just like the late Johny Cash song. :beer :TU:
I'm with you Jason! I'm getting my '53 painted this winter and I just can't afford (or feel good about spending) the money to get all the chrome done too. Oh well...I just love driving em anyway!
J- Why wouldn't they (or you) just use the paint that is on the firewall tag? That way it would be the original white.
Thre jury is still out. I assume its the original white. Its really hard to tell and I didnt bother to ask. Logic would say that he would of just looked on the tag right? Theres a bunch of different whites. I was at a loss for words when I saw it all finished on Friday I understand that the newer style paints dont exactly match up to the exact shade of the original formulations. Some one correct me if Im wrong.
The "new" Embassy Gold isn't an exact match to the original, that much I can tell you based on the unfaded original paint inside my trunk and inner fenders when compared to what I see as the new paint color.
Jason Whites are tough new colors have 5 shades of white sounds crazy but they have even screwed up white with everything else.Thats why all of us are still playing with 40 year old carsou:
Well, I took the morning off of work yesterday. I paid my bill at the shop and got the car home. Its finally safe and sound in my garage. WHEW! I can stop worrying. Now I need to rearrainge two of the other cars in different garages before we start to get snow.
Let me know if I can help in any way. My specialty is hold and drinking beer as others work, if I can be of any service, don't hesitate to ask!:TU:
Not too much progress Ken with the weather. I really dont have a big garage to work in. Funny you should bring this back up to the top. I just ordered a bunch of weatherstrippng and other odds and ends I needed for it over the weekend. Ive got another large order Im goin to place with CARS this week as well. Since its been so crappy out, Ive mainly been sitting in front of the TV every night polishing stainless or chrome moldings. I cut all the paint masks for the grill this weekend. All the power window switches were taken apart, cleaned, detailed and re assembled. And Im starting to go through all the boxes and making sure everything is ready to slam back on the car. So once the weather breaks I can really make some progress. I cant wait to get all this stuff back on the car. My house looks like a Riviera exploded in it. p The only thing holding me back is money!:spank:
Well Jason, even though you aren't making progress in the garage, at least you're getting necessary work done indoors. If the cold keeps on for a long time, I guess your chrome will just get shinier and shinier! And I think ordering parts counts as work too- at least it feels like it when the credit card bill comes. Can't wait to see the car in person! :TU:
In the first pics of your Riv it looked like it had the ACC system in it. If so does it work? U gonna keep it or install something simpler?
TRV. is that the part behind the dash pad and above the glove box? I took my dash apart today. Thing has a cable running to it, a sensor tube from the dash and another form outside(im guessing). a few Vac lines runing to it. That may be the issue with mine as well. Do you know how to test it?
