Yeah, I already have 4+ hours into stripping and wet sanding the grill. Havent even started to do the headlight doors. Cool, that Krylon is the same thing I was thinking about using too. I think it might be ready for a coat of primer next. my hands are baby smooth from all the wet sanding. Jen says its an improvment. She usually complains my hands are too rough Dale- keep going! :beers2: While Im waiting for my turn in the shop, post some progess pics of yours. I want to see some primer!
Jason after all that work I would use a spray can of self-etching primer I think kemper has it in Deer Park Commack rd and long island ave
I did use a light gray flex primer on mine before final painting. The 'BUICK' emblem in the pic is also an added item - all the other full size '68 models had one, so I added an NOS one to the left headlight door - just another Randyism ! Dale - you hang in there ! :beer :TU:
I made a boatload of templates to mask off my grille when I painted it. Lots of yellow post-it notes to try and hide everything. What a nightmare! Now that it's been a decade, I need to do it all over again!
Dont ask! The body shop has the car in limbo at the moment. They're still clearing out the shop of current work. They seems to do them two at a time and work on them straight through till completion. He promises me that my car is next on the hit parade. Doesnt matter really. The car has been sitting on my garage for years. The more time he takes, the more I get to save up. For what its worth, he said that it shouldnt take more than three weeks to complete Its cool. I still have a ton of stuff I need to clean, paint and polish.
The grille is coming along pretty good. After three applications of Easy Off its finally naked! Hopefully I can get it primed up and painted by the weekend.
The 68 is getting redone. The 69's 1980's lauquer respray is showing its age too, but its still presentable. With the 68, the paint was literally falling off. The 69 is next after the finacial and emotional scarring wears off from this paint job.
Jason, sounds cool. Im definitely gonna keep my eye on this one (wonder why! haha). Cant wait to see how it turns out, and good luck.
Do you restore all your grills in the living room? I rebuilt my carb last fall on the dining room table and I still hear about it...
I know! I laugh at all the photos I've seen on this board of parts in the living room, dining room, sitting on the white furniture, etc. I could get away with it with the 1st wife, but not this one I have now! :spank: Even if they were pristine, NOS sanitary parts, just the very idea to her that car parts are in the living areas of the home would cause a stir. We recently bought a new dishwasher. I needled my wife by constantly referring to it as a new parts washer. Jeff Foxworthy. You might be a redneck if your wife says to you. "Honey, can you take the transmission out of the bathtub so I can take a bath."
I got a set of 350 heads back from the machine shop a while back. I brought them home and put them in the living room on the carpet in front of the entertainment center. They were in clear plastic bags. What do you want from me? Im a car guy! I left them there and went in the garage. I came in an hour or so later and Jennifer was vacuuming the living room. I watchd her vacuum all around them and she never said a word about the heads. It was like they werent there. She also helped me carry my restored vintage go kart into the spare bedroom upstairs. We're a perfect match!
18 years together. We met at a high performance auto parts store we both worked at. But thats a story for another day
I hope there wasn't a surveillance camera in the stockroom...:Brow: It must be love if you haven't even been tempted to swindle one of her cars!
Just got the call from the body shop. They just rolled it into the shop. WOO HOO!!!! Im soooooo excited. :TU:
