I commented but I wasn't in BG, I also voted in the last election but I wasn't hanging out in DC. I would love to go to BG I just can't seem to make it happen. I will go if the opportunity arises LS power or not. I'm entitled to my preference either way!

I also don't think you would get more than 20 Cars max that are non buick powered. The only people that would come are buick members anyway that just happen to have other cars or their friends.
There is nothing to draw them to the event.

    NO, period. end of story.
Everybody and their brother is putting a LS into everything. All Hot Rod Mag did was run LS stories. Ranting on how good the LS was. telling everyone to put a LS into everything. For giggles I looked into it. for just a basic no frills LS swap. You are looking upward of 10 grand. I can afford that. I'll stick with my SBB. Finally TA performance has stepped up and recognized the Buick 350. With the SP3 and the Stage 1 350 heads we can finally get some power without the enormous out lay of cash.

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

Exactly! I think you are correct.

This all reminds me of when I was in the American Chevelle Enthusiast Society (ACES) which was a national Chevelle club that was larger than the GSCA. The club was for ‘64-‘72 Chevelles. Well the club proposed opening it up to also allow the ‘73-‘79(?) Chevelles and Malibus. The outcry from some members of the club was crazy. “I’ll quit this club” or “I’ll never come to another event!” etc, etc.

The club did go forward and allow the ‘73-‘79 models and at each national event there were less than 10 that showed up. The outcry was all for nothing.

The same will be true if Buicks with non-Buick engines are allowed. There will be a few show up (I’ll bring mine) but there won’t be many and they won’t even be noticed.

Heck, in the past Richard has allowed Corvettes, a late model Challenger, a CTS-V, and a few other non-Buicks to test and tune and the sky didn’t fall. If someone hates my LSA-powered Skylark then trot out onto the track and blow my doors off.

Well.. I think somebody needs to call Richard and get his input. After all, it's his event, and his opinion is the only one that really matters.

Me personally? While I have seen a few GS's that were really well done with an LS swap (Todd Millers car) I still wonder how cool that would have been with an EFI/twin turbo Tomahawk.. so they really don't interest me.

But if increased car counts help the event keep going, I can ignore the LS swaps a well as any Buick guy.. as long as they have a segregated racing class, I can ignore that too.. Sounds like a good time to go get a hot dog...

It would not prevent me from supporting and attending future GS Nationals.

Maybe in 20-30 years when ls swaps start to die off, their supporters will be saying ‘maybe we should open our event to those old Buick guys with their Tomahawks’!

Funny story about that. I was there the year the cts-v and hellcat were "kinda-sorta" grudge racing. Yeah, it was really just test and tune. But what was funny, there was always a pretty good crowd of GS Nats attendees huddling around the starting line to watch them run, oddly enough. At times I'm fairly certain more folks than what was watching some buicks run.

The other funny thing is they were getting this little test and tune time carved out for them. When my BUICK broke an exhaust pipe thus not allowing me to qualify for GSR, I repaired it in the pits and asked if I could make a pass or two during downtimes at some point ala "test and tune" since I paid entry and didn't get to make a single pass and was told unequivocally no way. So I sure wouldn't expect special treatment just because of a trishield badge.

Anyway, I know, cool story bro, sour grapes, yada yada.

Upwards of 10k for a LS swap? Lmao where in the world did you read that? Maybe 10k to build a SBB, I can count all the Buick vendors on one hand.

There was a Vortec 5.3L in the 2007 Buick Rainier so do that technically make it an available "Buick" Motor or how about an LT1 from the late 90s in a Buick Roadmaster.

I do not drag race but curious how the GSCA looks at these since they technically came in a Buick.

I was really hoping they would do some Buick version of the CTS-V with 650HP LT4 but does not look like it will happen in the US.

Truly curious how this is viewed by the racing scene.

I asked that once here. The general consensus was that the motor is a corporate engine and their for not a true Buick engine.

No wonder people give up on their Tomahawk builds and end up parting it here. I just pulled a complete 6.0 from a wrecking yard to a tune of 670.00. Whats 700 going to cover for a tomahawk build? I can't even buy the oil pan! Lmao! So I either buy an engine and get back to the track and continue racing. Or cough up some more money for a tomahawk oil pan and continue to stare at a empty engine bay. But at least I have the oil pan already! Maybe next year I can afford a bearing or lifter set!

What if someone brought a chevy or any other make besides Buick with a Buick motor? Is a Tomahawk really a Buick motor? Allowing one additional class can only bring in more people.

Well folks, I literally have been around Buick’s my whole life.
I always pull for the underdog and down South here I endured all the crap from the Chevy,Ford & Mopar guys about my “Girl Scout” (GS) and I have held hard and fast to that loyalty even though it made me a lone wolf 95% of the time on the street or the track.
I am STILL ill about the old “Top 50 Fastest” stock muscle cars where we initially finally got some recognition only to have our ranking dropped by the louder voices of butt hurt owners of anything but Buick’s.
This years Nationals was the best one I have attended since the mid 80’s.
Needless to say the numbers of participants was lower but the experience of being there with hard core, die hard, faithful Buick people more than made up for that though for me.
Is that going to pay for the track as the years go by? Probably not.
Is allowing our decades & decades of underrated and disrespected cars to have their engines pitched in favor of the very brands that talked smack about us all these years going to suddenly swell our ranks & allow us to live on? I doubt it.
For me it is still “you gotta pay to play” or be smart enough to take the harder road to locate our engines and add what you can afford.
I love to see crazy low E.T.’s from Buick powered dedicated drag cars and my hat is off to all who go that route.
That said I am an old school street racer (or was when you could do that) I am about big block or small block Buick’s with a nice cam, headers, aluminum intake and all the tried and true modifications.
I definitely will still attend, support, and cheer on those with the means to make their Buick’s crazy fast and hopefully pick off some of those parts as they trickle down to us regular guys as the need for Buick speed bug continues to fuel our big guys.
That said the statement that always comes up is “if the Buick belongs to someone else it is none of your damn business what they run in it”.
Obviously a true statement it is still a free country, the reverse of that though is hardcore Buick powered guys don’t have to spend there hard earned money traveling hundreds or thousands of miles to a BUICK event to watch Chevy drivetrains run.
Hell, I can see that any weekend here locally and be home the same day.
Am I going to bond with these guys and have a common goal of Buick power? No, at best we could discuss Buick sheet metal they want to cover their Chevy drivetrain.
For me it is all about quality over quantity.
Yes, it takes money for these events, yes, there are not as many of us as there use to be but I love my Buick brothers & sisters, and obviously our underdog Buick powered cars because I don’t want to be like everyone else.
If that translates to smaller & smaller venues but stays pure Buick’s I guess I will go down with the Buick flagship.
God willing if I am still around then I will still be more than proud to drive around with even my current basically stock 455-4-speed 3:64 car and howl open the quad secondaries and boil the tires out on my own, just like I started as a lone wolf amongst the masses.
For the pro Chevy swaps, yep,it is all yours to do as you will but so is my money SO if and when they are allowed to infiltrate our Buick Mecca, I will be on my own again, but still have my great Buick buddies to talk to on the phone & bond with even deeper.
Been with Buick’s my whole life & intend to go out with a Buick motor on my mounts because I enjoy the more difficult path & engineers like Mr.Manner worked way to hard to come up with a light, high torque power plant that could be complimented very easily by us hot rodders or just start everyday to drive granny around.
Sorry, but not throwing over half a lifetime away to be like everyone else.

    Sincerely,
    Fritz

There was a Buick powered jeep and a Buick powered Studebaker there this year. Years past I've seen a Buick powered S10, Camaro, and even an amc gremlin. So that already happens and to my knowledge all are well received, as they should be IMO.
