As was alluded to earlier, you have to attract more Buicks to the Buick events. You have to make them THE event to attend if you own a Buick-powered car. You have to make it THE destination of choice. The marketing folks need to figure it out, get the sponsors, the big names that draw crowds. I'm not a marketing guy but I know that Buick folks are pretty smart bunch.

When the Nats was bursting at the seams with black cars in the ‘90s they were Buicks through and through and we still lost a bunch of v8 guys. If that happens with ls cars you can kiss it good bye.
Maybe I’ll stick a Buick emblem on some GXR motorcycle, say it ‘identifies’ as a Skylark, and run Super 16...

Hoping a Buick dragster can run in Super16 before a chevy powered Buick.
I'm also guessing that Doug will never allow LS powered cars in S16;).
    Their own class maybe.

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

I would not have a problem with a single show class and a single race class that allow non-Buick engines in a Buick body.

I echo Gary on this one. If the LS crowd had their own race and show class, it wouldn't really bother me so long as it's still Buick bodied. I do think S16 should be Buick powered though. Plenty of events for uber fast LS's, keep the premier race class at the GS nats more true to the pedigree.

    Keep it all Buick powered.
Buicks that were built before the "corporate" engine should have a Buick built engine in it.
If your 78 Electra had an Olds 350, and you pulled it to install a Buick 455, cool.
If your 76 Electra had a 455 Buick and you yanked it for a BBC:( NAH.
IMHO, that '76 Electra with a BBC is now trans gendered.
I see a nice '68-'72 Cutlass, walk up, and theres the BBC all chromed out, LOOOOOOSER!
Is the owner an Olds guy? Prolly not. A Chevy guy? Doubt it.
He just wants to be part of the car scene.
Its been tried with limited success, but what about a BOP nationals?
Im sure Olds is hurting for attendance, maybe Pontiac is also.
Buick, Olds and Pontiac are like the three amigos anyway, we share the same BOP bell housing bolt pattern:D
Chevy has the stupid "all by itself" pattern;)

To me, after living through the Turbo invasion in the late 80's (they were novel at 1st), it's more about the crowd it could potentially attract.

The future of the car scene is the next generation. Me. Get us involved and racing. Maybe in one show class and one race class? It's a way to save more Buick sheetmetal and keep it on the road, no matter if its powered by a Slant 6, a Briggs & Stratton, or a 555 Tomahawk. Don't we already allow Buick-powered stepchildren?

My wife quit going to the Nationals with me because of the turbo car invasion. Mainly the GN's. She said she didn't want to see anymore identical black cars going down the track!

I quit the GSCA over it and have never rejoined. When the black cars start running, I go to the bathroom, get a snack, go wonder through the pits and vendors. Mind you, I owned an 87 GN at the time and I sold it in 91, partly because I was not in love with the GNs.

could just have a buick powered class and a non buick power.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I like the idea of a "non-Buick powered" class as well. This would open the door for LS swapped cars or anything else (Tesla swaps, etc). the cars would still show the Tri-Shield on the outside and this could attract a broader audience of youngsters?

I suppose the danger is the Non-Buick powered class overtaking the actual Buick classes (in terms of number of entrants).

I don't think having an LS means lack of imagination, there is so much more to it than buying a $400 motor and bolting on a eBay turbo to get a proper combination that will last. Sure if you want some cheap HP for a few passes..

As for the nationals.. Keep the legitimate events Buick powered, it is their time to shine and they deserve it. But do not spit on the guys who show up that have tried the old school way and picked another path. Be it for convince or curiosity.

I am a Buick guy, There I said it out loud! Well I typed it. My first 69 convertible I went thru 3 blocks and rebuilds before I had a good running 350 Buick. Yes my Chevy buddy's all said just put a small block Chevy in it, but I stood my ground and made it Buick powered. I have moved on to 400 BBB now and cant wait to build my next 455 Buick. Now with that said I would vote to allow any Buick b0dy in and create a race class just for them or any non Buick engine. For Show car classes put them in the modified classes. As stated earlier we need cars, and people to attend in order to continue on. How many Model A shows or races have you heard about lately? I know this wont please most here, but that's freedom of speech and why I live in America. ( Cue the patriotic music )

If I were an A Model enthusiast, I’d rather not see one at all than see it with an ls.

John jr here. Obviously I am as diehard buick as they come..
But I don't see any issue with opening the event to brand x Cars but for test and tune only other their own one race class.
We as a buick community don't have enough cars or people to support the event anymore. This year was a fluke and obviously prices are going up for next year. I heard people complaining about the prices this year. We can't afford it on a senior income. Gas prices are high. Hotel costs etc.
The track is expensive. Someone needs to pay for it.
Also just out of curiosity all the people that say they wont support the event if they have brand x cars or ls swaps probably weren't going anyway. I would hope anyone that is commenting on this post was in b.g. this year.
It was nice to see spectators this year but I don't think car count was anything to run home about. So once again people need to bring cars to keep the event going besides spectating.

Exactly.. Most people don't understand that or just think everything is cheap. Most of the people are volunteers at the b.g. event. Why? Because then you get the track for a cheaper rate. That means cheaper entry..
