Jim,it's called the "Flying J" truck stop, and as Larry pointed out,Exit 100 Cecil County/Rising Sun exit. I know being inside that truckstop, they have all sorts of cameras set up throughout that facility.

    Truckstop contact info

Here's a link to that truckstop with phone numbers and contact names. Open the link, then click on the star, then click on "more Info". This will open another window with more information. I'm sure that there will be some sort of security footage. Flying J Truckstop

I can't remember if that truck stop has a truck wash on site, if so, check with those people to see they were open that night. Yes, I know it was raining that night, but trailers also need to be washed out inside them.

Also, ask the management if you can place a "Stolen car alert" inside the facility itself. Then got to the two truckstops at exit 109, Petro and Travel centers of America, and do the same thing. Try to visit during weekday normal business hours when the site manager is most likely to be on the premesis (call first).

Truck drivers tend to be very observant, and it's possible that there would be many drivers who buy fuel regularly at that truck stop, and somebody might remember something. Lots of truck drivers take notice of classic cars being towed or driven, it's worth a shot.

    3shields Let's go, MOUNTAINEERS!!!

    Self-secure-showing....

I am truely sorry for each of you who have had their personal property cowardly stolen in the dark of the night. Anyone stealing in my opinion is one of the lowest forms of life. Hopefully these culprits will be dealt with swiftly and properly.

Can we simply also provide our own security? I know that I would happily volunteer to take a "Shift" with another member to patrol the parking facilities for an hour each night. We could all keep a cell phone with us, and let each and all know what we have there. Then, if you wish to enter, or move your vehicle during the "secure" hours, simply check with those on patrol? Some of the guidelines would have to be worked out, but we can help make a difference.

To be very honest with you all, I sleep very little when my car is outside at night in a parking area. I would sleep better knowing that my fellow buick enthusiasts were helping keep an eye on our cars.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I called the Flyin J but they do not have cameras outside. Putting up posters is a good idea but we live 4 hours away. I should have done it that morning I guess. I did get on the CB a couple of hours after the discovery but no one saw anything. I am calling junkyards and tow companies in the area, hopefully something will turn up that way.

John, there are members who live close by those truckstops, in fact I know of at least two who live in Elkton MD, that being Paul Manuel, pwm72 on the board, and his son Ryan. Perhaps they could help you with placing posters.
Paul helped me out last year, by going to get pics of the 65 GS I bought through this board. He is the epitome of class in assisting others. Send him a PM or e-mail.

Here's another idea.....how about you photshop experts designing a poster for the return of Jill's car?? I'd do it, but alas, don't have photoshop. :ball:

In the future, we might want to consider LOJACK for our cars. Easy to track down stolen vehicles that way.

    *********************EDIT*********************

I just called LOJACK and they currently do NOT have coverage in OHIO!

    FYI

    I'm on it!

John shot me a PM tonight and I am making up some flyers to place at the local truckstops in the area. Hopefully we will get some kind of lead out of this.

...and thanks for the kind words Tom...you are also a class act! :TU:

We had two friends get drag radials and racing rims stolen off of different car trailers at the Hampton Inn in Bowling Green a few months back for the Z06 Fest. A large group of us was out in the parking lot until 2-3a.m. every night, but they ripped off a pair of drag radials from one of my friends and a complete set of four autocross Hoosiers and rims that had never been on the ground yet. All rims were chained or bolted to the trailers, but these guys made short work of it. By 5a.m., they were gone! We had never had problems with theft for any of the Vette deals or GS Nats that we've visited over the years, until this past summer. This can happen anywhere, and it really is a sad situation that you cannot play with your toys without worrying that some low life is going to vandalize or steal them. The Suburban may have been the deciding factor, here, as the older ones are really easy to steal, as are our GS and GN cars. These were hopefully joy riders, and some or all of the vehicles will hopefully turn up shortly. I am seriously considering getting an enclosed trailer equipped with ac and bunking area. I have seen rodeo people with this type of set up. That way, the wife and I could room with whatever car we bring. Plenty of room for shooting irons, too! Thanks and good luck, Rudy E.

This was a local job, done by locals. These vehicles are prolly within 30 miles either direction of where they were last seen. Doubtful they stopped to get gas or anything where they could be seen. The NY plates were more than the thieves could stand, knowing you were there for the event, and were leaving on Sunday and going all the way back to NY, meaning you could not hang around and look for them. The vehicles will show up in the salvage yards somewhat close by Cecil, but unfortunately they will be in the same condition as Wild Willy's GS when he found it.

This is just a very unfortunate incident caused by some P.O.S. scumbags.

I'm still blown away that this happened. Sorry you guys have to go thru this and I hope the loser thiefs get what they deserve. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

We feel ya' Willie ! :af: :af: :af:

For those of you who don't know.....Willies mint 1971 GS 'vert race car was stolen last year along with his enclosed trailer, extra parts and tools, right from his drvieway.
Some of it was recovered but most of it is gone. We know how he felt when his stuff was stolen. None of us should have to go through this $HIT !

Hey Willie did they ever catch the guys that took your stuff? I know you got some stuff back but are the a--holes sitting in jail or perhaps dead?

This is terrible....I hope it doesn't discourage some from bringing cars to events.
In the past I have been mocked at being "paranoid" worrying about my car at night at an event. I sometimes leave it at the track someimes at the motel.
    Open trailer doesn't help.......
I will be taking additional precautions in the future.

As far as calling the cops before an event....I wouldn't do it.....hope to not offend anyone but not all can be trusted. (or might sell the info to crooks) My parents used to call the police dept when they would go away.....got robbed twice when away. Stopped calling and were never again robbed. Our next door neighbor called the police and also the post office to hold mail while out of town and the whole house was CLEANED OUT...literally.....with a moving van!!! We thought they were moving!!!! The theives even poisoned their 2 St. Bernards in the back yard (relative was checking on them every other day) SCUMBAGS!!!

I tell you guys one thing- in the future, you will be seeing an awful lot of security on our vehicles, cars, and tow vehicles.

I agree with you 100% Willie-people don't understand what it's like to have stuff stolen unless it actually happens to them. Anyone who has ever had a crime committed against them has the same amount of extreme anger like we have. We have worked extremely hard for the things we have, while the scumbags don't do anything constructive or useful. They would much rather get something for free than have to work for it. What a bunch of A--holes! Nothing is free in this world, and if you want something, then you have to work for it.These type of people are inexcusable in society and if we ever catch them they will suffer.

Whoever you idiots are,you have made us all extremely angry and we are looking for you.

Carl, if they are ever caught and you get a chance to meet them face to face, I'd like you to go up to them and say, Hi.....my name is Carl and I'd just like to shake your hand.....then apply some of your KONGFU grip on then !

While they're screaming for their Momas on their knees and your not letting go, just say.... :af: "THAT WAS MY TRAILER YOU STOLE A-HOLE" :af: ....now lemme see you POP an ignition with that hand chump !

AWWWWWW........... DID I HURT YOUR LITTLE HAND !!! :ball: :ball: :ball:

I believe in.....An eye for an eye, but in this case they probably don't own anything of value, so body parts will have to do !

P.S. (don't forget to pass them over to Doug, so he can give them an ELBOW from the top rope...right between the eyes)

Im not sure if this is a good idea but what about staging a sting operation. Go back there to the next event, make sure it has different state plates, leave it unlocked but without keys, with another trailer and car behind it. Who knows it my be worth it. Have about 12 guys hiding in the bushes, others in cars ready to alert law enforcement and another chase car? :Do No:

No need for a sting next year, cause some of us will be hanging around the lot all night....maybe playing baseball :Brow: It will be very unfortunate that a poor deprived car theif may come into the lot and ah accidently get wacked by a bat while we are all playing. :Brow: Damn shame it will be
