This is a bad situation, I hope they are caught soon. :spank:

Guys, the idea of watching the parking lot full of Buicks is a great idea. :TU: However, the point is we shouldn't have to do that. We should be able to walk up to our rooms knowing are cars will be there in the morning in the same condition they were when we left them. But we don't live in a perfect world so it may have to come to watching the lots. :(

Hotrodders.com also has a master list of car related forum links that this could be posted on. I don't have time to register on all of them but I'm going to do some tonight. It may not help but you never know.

    John,
Dumb question? Hell No, I didn't even think of that. You would think that in this day and age, cameras would be commonplace. I was there when John Csordas was talking with the Hotel manager. I didn't hear anything mentioned about security cameras, and the Police didn't mention it either, so there probably are none, BUT THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN. Maybe we need to insist that there be security cameras anywhere we stay.

I suggest that you have to consider pooling funds to hire a night time security guard of the type appropriate for the task. If funds were pooled it would not cost very much per car for each motel lot guarded as long as a lot of owners stayed at the same place.

You know guys, another thing-these hotels we're staying at don't charge inexpensive rates. You basically pay a lot more money at these places because that hotel is an upscale place. You would think that because of that more expensive rate, your security is assured. I think we should mention to the manager of the hotel we're staying at, is to provide security to the parking lot, because there is a lot of money sitting outside in their parking lots. If they want us to patronize them, they should see to it our belongings are protected. If they don't want to help us,we will take our business elsewhere and they will have a bad name in the process.

You would think in this day, cameras would be set up in the parking lot of that hotel and what I recollect, there aren't any. If you go into the parking lot of a Walmart, you will quickly find out there are cameras set up with signs saying that the parking lot is under surveillance and that people are being watched.

Sorry to hear about the theft. Thats my biggest nitemare. I volunteer to pull my shift at security watch only if I can have the first 12 shots, not to worry I will supply my own ammo.

Yes, Carl you would think, but not, read my post about the broad daylight take in BG in '96 at the Fairfield Inn, no less!
The BCA, has taken the stance of keeping folks in the parking lots at their events all night, they did in Batavia this year, in Flint every year, that there's been an event. A club member usually provides a motorhome or trailer of some kind, for a headquarters, and the hosting chapter members provide the security team. But then again, this should not have to be the norm, we should feel safe at the places we stay, and also at the track, as there have been instances at several tracks, I even heard at Norwalk, not during Buick RaceDay, but another time, where cars, Buicks even, were stolen. We leave our trailers open, tools and stuff out at many events without even thinking there are scumbags among us, I guess, it's time to lock it all up, even when you go to make a pass on the track, and that stinks, all that added weight of keys in the race car with you, but you will know your 'stuff' is still there, when you get back, but what a pain!
I wish it were not this way, come to think of it, speaking of scumbags, I was in line at the car wash this afternoon, with the company truck, I have to turn in tomorrow, when some whiz bang girl in a KIA suv whips in front of me, DUH? You don't want to know what I said, and I usually don't say things like that, but it's just a dog eat dog world out there, right now, it seems, so she saved 3 minuites of waiting, Patience is a virtue, which you learn as you grow older, and have to wait for road construction, and your manager to make a decision, life is too short to be impatient. Later!

No cameras at the hotel and the tropper said this was the first car stolen pertaining to any race cars or show cars from that area. They have alot of Chevy shows and Ford events at that track.

Well, you know something,John-maybe the troupers should be more aware that there was a crime committed in their area. When things like this happen in that community,it will drive the tourists away and the tourists will be wary to visit the area next time.

We all face this at hotels... an off duty cop is not that expensive, and divided among 10 people or more, it's cheap insurance.

If and when I do attend an event as such, I think having someone(wether it be a professional to just a normal person-with weapons and self-security devices of course) watch and guard the cars is a great idea! But I think for my car, one of the last things i'll do to it will be add an alarm or security unit of some kind, as things can never be "too safe". :TU:

I think maybe someone should contact that truckstop down the hill from the Crystal Inn. That's the one with the restaurant connected to it.

You litterally have to pass through their property to exit that hotel and i'm sure a big complex such as that would have camera servailence.
Maybe they caught a plate # off a car following the rig out of the parking lot. I don't think the thieves would be traveling alone !

Don't leave a stone unturned......the cops aren't going to do it for you !!!

You are right,Ron. Good point and definately something to look at.

    Just for inspiration:
You know guys-I know it's a tough lesson, but we will not give into these car thieves. We will be ready next time and they will have an awful tough time attempting to take what is rightfully ours. From now on,we all have to be on our guard and not let anything to chance. I know it is a loss for us,but we have to keep going and not let something like this ruin the love we have for these cars and our hobby.

Maybe these items will show up. Just keeping praying.

And one more word of advice-regardless of what car you own,my advice is you get some form of auto security. What ever you do,don't get a cheap inexpensive device that a would be thief can break. Good auto security devices don't come cheap, but with all the $$$$ we have invested,it is very cheap insurance.

that's an EXCELLENT idea about the truckstop, they SHOULD have a driveway/street/parking surveilance camera's.... I have been in very few that didn't have one... most of them are on 7 day recording clocks, so time is of the essence in contacting them.... :Smarty:

what exit number is that hotel and truck stop at? I can do some digging in my national truck stop literature, and see what they have for camera's... I know some major fleets don't allow their trucks to stop at NON camera stations for security/theft reasons, and if it's a nationally recognized big name truck stop, this could be a BIG break....
