Done all the fuel lines. Just put new vent lines on the tank last night but need a 2 line vent to put on it. Just have 2 vent lines with an S in them sticking straight up right now. There is NO reason this car should be having a problem on the track. Anyone that has looked at it sees no problem with it. At least you have an excuse for not having a car at the track. You've rebuilt your WHOLE car!! I bought this car to race, and it was raced before I bought it. It was built to race. I saw it run, you saw it run, everyone saw it run. I get ahold of it and haven't made not one good run in it. Enough is enough. I've done everything I can do. A shop can't do anything to it that I haven't already done. I get the same suggestions on what to look at on it. Like I said before, it is not rocket science. I just have hard a$$ luck and I might as well accept racing is not something that I'm not going to get to do. Count my loss and get out. I've tried like hell to get this car running, so what else to do except drive it around on the street or get rid of it. Guess I should have stayed with that non-car guy I met, got married, and stayed barefoot and pregnant like a woman should.
Haha Dee, You will find the problem Fuel and spark operate the system. Pick your choice and work out every possible means to repair it. I do think your on the right track repairing the line on the tank. The factory connected that line for a reason as well. If it was not needed I am sure it would not be there. I also think it will seal the system and allow for complete flow of fuel. In any case I wish you the best I know you will find the problem and give yourself on of these ou: after you repair it.
I'm about to the point if anyone can fix the car, I'll just give it to them. There's really nothing more to do than throw some more money at it. Everyone says I have been very thorough in going through the car.
I think you have done a great job. I will say you get flustered easy but many people do. Sit back Drink some water Get up under the car and fix the lines. Then you know it is fixed. FYI Your car likes me  we can talk about it more about the problem if you want. I can give you a ring later this evening. let me know. :TU:
I'll fix it for ya-- I'll even come get it, trailer it to ATX, fix it and you can fly down here and take it home. Or better yet, have a friend bring you to Temple and you can see for yourself! If you knew how many old cars I've had-- you'd take me up on it. Frank
Ive got a buddy, been a GM/Buick master tech for 20 years that has his own side business, and he can fix it for ya. The only reason I have yet to offer this option in the past is because you seemed determined to fix this on your own. You would have to drop it and leave it, as, it is a side business and he is doing all he can on his off time. But being best friends for the past almost 30 years, Im sure I can get him to work it in. Seems you have lots of options, so its up to you whether this car gets fixed or not. PS, hes our age and still has his first car, a 1969 Buick GS400 Stage 1 4 speed. Now also has a 70 GSX clone......... He knows his Buicks................
Its Bryan, and you are right, I need to give him a call tomorrow and see if he wants to make the trip. Funny between the 2 of us (me and Bryan), we have 4 Buicks and only 1 runs.....LOL ou: Hes finishing his X and then gonna start his 69 frame off. :TU:
Believe me, I'm not easily frustered. I've fixed all the lines on the car except the hard lines through the frame. I've been up, down, and all around the car 10 times now. I've taken at least 4 or 5 of these cars completely apart and put at least 2 back together but that's been about 20 years ago. I'm a little rusty but I should be able to fix this problem. And remember, the problem is ONLY on the track, in second gear, around 2,500 rpm. It DOES NOT have a problem on the street now. Phil fixed that for me!!! :Brow: I've had probably at least 20 Buicks and lots of other old cars. That's what the ex. and I did. We bought Buicks, Novas, and whatever else was cheap and looked like fun to fix up, fixed them up, and sold them. I'm not just a girl wanting to get into the old car thing, I've lived the life, was out of it for a while, and been trying to get back in the swing of it for the last 4 years now, but things haven't gone too good. :ball: So when I bitch and complain, moan and groan, I truely have something to whine about!!!! A complete, excellent running Buick that can't make it down the track would piss any of you guys off if you BS'ed with it as much as I have.   You know what's funny Wayne? Both of my Buicks actually run!!!!!    Are you coming out to the race or are you going to a parade with the missus?  So if I do waste all of the gas, drive it all the way to East Texas and back by myself, take it to the track, someone WILL fix it? Is it a dare? Is it a bet? Are we gonna wager on this???? Will they have a TNT before racing so it can be taken down the track at least a few times without having to pay to race? o No: o No: I'll probably get home tonight about 7:00p.m. The only thing I have left to do is clean the air filter and I might try to rotate the distributor so it isn't as close to the radiator hose. Don't know what we could talk about that would fix it. :ball: :ball: :ball: How much advance does everyone recommend running? I'll go away now.....
Dee, I'm sorry your car is still giving you fits, that'd drive me nuts too! Wish I was closer, and/or able to help. Hang in there, I'm sure you or somebody will track it down, even if it takes awhile. In the meantime, why not take your other Buick (or even that furrin one) to the Bash and do what I did - just run it like you would on the street and get some times? Not to mention the food and fellowship... :TU:
I think people would be happy to help dee. There will be some knowledgeable people there and maybe they could give you an objective opinion on it as well as a helpful hand. Otherwise, you will be among other Buick people. (That can't be all bad.) :TU:
Dee, we have talked about your situation before, and what you are dealing with really sux and is terribly frustrating. I know this because I went through this same exact ordeal over an 18 month period. I replaced every single piece of my fuel system and tried three different mechanical pumps, one of which was supposed to be good up to 500+ hp. What I have come to learn, through many other real life experiences, is that once you get these BB powered cars capable of running deep in the 13s and into the 12s, many of them can not be fed by a mechanical fuel pump. There will always be those that are able to run 12s on a factory pump, and I can not explain that, but I know several that can not get their car to perform at the track using even the best available mechanical pump. Here is a quote from one of the top Olds engine builders taken from a recent thread on ROP talking about a guys situation where his car was laying over at the track. He is not a very good speller, but he does know a lot about these cars: "If you want my opinion on where a high volume mechanical pump and oem system will not adequitely produce enough pounds per hour of fuel, than here it is: 14.4 et @ 3800pds. Yes, I know the stories already about how you run 12's and 13's with a factory oem system." My advice would be to get an internally regulated electric pump and splice it into your system back by the tank. Ben
Even you have seen this car run somewhere in the 13's on a stock non-Stage 1 pump. Now it's got a Stage 1 pump on it (actually 3rd pump), and it SHOULDN'T cut out. Can we pull your electric pump off your car and try it on mine??? :Brow: :Brow: I HAVE to diagnose the problem now and not change out or add new parts. :Smarty: :Smarty: :Smarty: (I have to save up $$ to buy a computer since they are on us here at work to not be on the internet). Have you noticed I'm a little stubborn (stupid)? ou: The white car isn't in good enough shape to drive that far. It needs a tune-up really bad, the heat riser cup thingy for the choke is leaking, I still have that little tap in it and not sure if it's a exhaust manifold or not and a few other things that have to be done before it can drive out of town. I really don't want everyone to have to look at my car at the track when everyone is suppose to be having fun, fellowship, and food. I'm tired of being the pain in the a$$ at our events. So Phil, will they let ME TNT without paying for racing? BTW: I LOVE BUICK PEOPLE!!!! :TU:
I have not asked to be honest. IT is probably the same price or cheaper. I will give them a call tonight.
Dee, Just based on what I've read, I don't think it's the fuel pump. The stock Stage 1 fuel pump is all you need for a street car. My car runs 12.80's with one, and Jason Cook (buick64203) still runs a stock pump on his 71 GS, and he ran several 11.90's in Salem. It could be the lines, but if you already blew them out and there is no restriction, then probably not. Vapor lock is possible depending on the location of the fuel line from the pump to the carb. It is cheap and easy to fix by re-routing it away from the head or intake, but rubber tubing is not recommended since it can cause the fuel to get too hot, so a metal line is what I would suggest. I have one you can try, and if it works, new pre-bent ones are available for about $20 from Inline Tube. Take a deep breath, and then take your car to Rusk. I will be glad to help if you need it. It also depends if we can go, but that will depend on if we can arrange overnight baby sitting!! Hope to see you tonight at Chucks! Good luck!
