I don't know what it is lately, but the system that has been in place since 2006 seem to be under attack.

Either ignored by sellers, or ridiculed by other users.

    So here's an idea.

No rules, first come first serve, your free to piss of as many folks as you wish selling your widget.

One catch..gonna cost you a picture of US Grant to do that.

$50 minimum board contribution to use the classifieds to sell.

Wow! I guess some folks refuse to play nice. If it comes down to pay to play I understand... it's a shame though.

Thats unfortunate, the few mess it up for the many!

Maybe just the offenders could be punished for this, ban them for 1 month for first offense, then for life 2nd offense?

Does the $50 donation cover pissing off people in just the classified section or can you piss off people in every forum of V8Buick? Personally, I've never limited myself to pissing people off in just the classifieds. What sort of activity will be allowed for a $100 donation?

Jim, are you serious or just venting?

I'm biased, George is a friend of mine, and i know what he goes thru....i feel for him and all moderators...

I sell on many boards, and i pay for my membership on 2...the biggest in the country probably, and never see or have issues like here...and lets be real..its greed..more on the buyers than the sellers....its the mine..mine...mine mindset...and its getting so old...

I have been ripped off more here than anywhere...and dont complain..i got my ways to deal with it...its a shame too, in the morning this is the first place i come to, even before my email...

i like the idea, of a paid membership for more privies...on one board i am on every day, anyone can buy, but only as a paid member can you sell...you have to sign a basic contract to sell...and theres absolutely no excuse, because to finish the deal you have to check a box, and they have ZERO tolerence..and ZERO issues...you check a 2 or 3 pargraph rules structure..and check every paragraph..you know the rules and theres no excuses...

they incourage you to use the PMs...and the good thing is...when a seller puts up an ad...only he can respond...and his concious rules his personal idea of whats right or wrong..and 3 strikes you are out..they will run you off...the only thing they moderate is you have to have a location and you have to have a price...no make offers...the board moderates its self and it works

I feel sorry for the guy just once in a while that stumbles on a part and turns it..he wont sell if theres a fee

This is still the best auto web site out there.
The buy/sell rules are good rules........when followed.

Maybe some policing is warranted to make a point(make some people an example with discipline) until things return to order.

I don't feel this Board is broken, or needs to be fixed, just some people need to be reminded occasionally of the "gift" that this v8Buick board is.

Kinda like a drivers licence, it's a privilege to have it and use it, not an entitlement!

With that said, Thank You Jim for an excellent place to hang out with cool car people!
Mark's idea above would get people's attention to behave.

The only down side to that is (depending on how wild wild west-like $50 gets you) its going to most likely alienate buyers when sellers all of a sudden are going Kamikaze and people will quit buying here. With less buyers will come less sellers, which means less parts listed. Then we all lose. I've sourced a ton of parts for my Buick from here, and have been lucky to have never had a problem, although I have seen an uptick in issues as of late. Still, I certainly hope it doesn't come to this "no holds barred" philosophy or the go to place for many of us to restore cars that otherwise have relatively little parts availability is going to diminish, which needless to say would be bad news for our old Buford's...

No need to vent here, and no, you don't get to act like your on the Yellow Juvenal site.:idea2:

    :pp

    But here's the thing:

If sellers start picking and choosing who your going to sell to here, I guarantee you, we will have some doozies over this trinket or that, and there will be folks looking for other websites to play on, after they go off the deep end because they got passed over for.... whatever part or car.

The conduct rules have not changed one bit and will always be strictly enforced. This site will not turn into Yellow Diarrhea. I will shut it down first.

I am just throwing this out there for discussion, there seems to be a growing number of folks who chafe under a few simple rules, which were set up to benefit everyone... so there are alternatives, but the site will be compensated if the mods have to go thru all the drama that will come with a seller controlled environment.

    Your going to see:

Sellers "Buddies" jumping in front of you..

Guys running there own personal auction,,

No sales to drive the price up later

    Shill bidding on items

    All the ebay fun stuff.

This was always a place to trade a few parts, and help everyone out. I have never had any trouble buying or selling, but I have not done a ton of it either. I know there are issues, the only way to get rid of them is to shut the classifieds down all together.

Which is exactly what one well respected member told me we should do here recently.. just click the button an shut them off for the rest of the year... just as a reminder that their use is not a right..

I didn't want to really do that, nor do I want to change what we have now, but I hear the complaints and gripes, so I am all ears as how to make that part of the site better.

You tell me, I hear and read a few of you commenting all the time on the classifieds stuff, I am all ears. Don't bother to type "Leave it free and let us do what we want" cause that is not going to happen, for the reasons listed above.

You will pay to control your advertising/sales, as the man said "There is no free lunch".

I guess I have missed the latest action in the classifieds since I only look at the posts that may contain parts I am needing, I don't browse them all. I have bought a hand full of items over the past year or two from members here on the board and so far they have been great experiences. It seems like such a tight knit group that I like to believe for the most part I shouldn't have to worry about a deal going south. But I guess with anything real life there is always that possibility. It's a real shame that you apparently just can't have a place to where you feel comfortable doing business with your fellow brethren. Unfortunately we get this same thing at work as well. We have a company wide Bulletin Board (inner office craigslist) were people can go to sell things they no longer want or need and you can post WTB threads as well. Our company as a whole while large is very family oriented and focuses hard on trust and being a team player. Most people who put things up for sale are just trying to move old stuff. Not really trying to make a profit, but make some cash for items they aren't going to use. However there are those that price gouge like crazy and others that will try to beat you down on price for every penny regardless of how fair you listed price is. I guess it's everywhere and you just have to be cautious of it.

Jim - thanks for continuing to try and make this a better place. It's a shame that you even have to bring up topics like this. I hope that you are able to get it worked out reasonably. I spend lots of time on this site reading and responding when possible if I feel that I can contribute with accurate information. Without the classifieds its going to be even tougher to find those rarer or nit picky parts that aren't listed regularly on evil bay. Thanks to you and all the mods for there hard work on keeping this a great place to hang out.

I have been a member of V8 buick since 2007. I have come here to buy parts and get great advice. I now run a support my self and family with a small business selling used parts. The other day I made a mistake and listed a parts car. I have read the rules but by my own fault I made the mistake of listing the parts here and on a face book page. A member asked about a part that was already spoken for on the face book page. He got mad because even though he posted first he was number 3 in line do to other interest on the face book page. He informed me it was against forum rules and I took the add down. I apologize for my mistake to anybody that was offended. I like helping my Buick brothers and sisters out in any way I can. I have donated parts to those in need in the past when work or health was a problem for them. I have always made good on all of my sales. I have always shipped on time and sometimes shipped parts before I received payment. I have always sold in order. I have allot of parts to offer and being here in california. I always have a steady supply of new parts to sell. Some parts I have to get a few extra bucks because some cars I pay a few extra bucks for. how ever I always try to give the best deal I can or make up for it on smaller items. I personally would not like to pay to sell parts. I don't feel that I am part of the problem. please correct me if I am wrong. I think that people that break the rules she receive a warning the first time and that if the do get the waring a screen with the rules should pop up each time on there account each time the go to post a new add. next time a ban of 60 days and third time a year ban. That is my two cents.

Jim, are you talking about a seperate fee to post/buy in the classifieds over and above a contribution to the board?

I understand if so, and am for it. I don't buy or sell alot but there have been instances where it's frustrating to "pull the trigger" to buy something only to have the seller not do what he'll say. I don't admire your position at all and hope this can be worked out. This is a very valuable resource to have ruined by a few people.

How about instead of punishing everyone, we just punish the offenders.

Let's be a little more pro-active instead of re-active. I agree that there are some real a#%holes out there and no matter what you do, they'll still be there. We're all adults here. If reasonable rules are in place and two adults can't make a deal happen, that's just life. If someone is found to being rude and offensive, restrict his activities on the board for 30 days. If the behavior continues, ban him. I'm sure they'll find ways around it with a new email address and name, but you can't control that.

We can only control ourselves. And in life some people are just in a place that makes them mean and confrontational. Build a bridge, get over it and move on. Is all the aggrivation worth the widget you were going to get? Maybe if it's the piece you really need. But fortunately on this board there's usually someone else who has one you can buy........unless you need a fan shroud for a 1970 GS455. :pp

I apologize in advance because I am a source of some of the recent complaints. It is also fair to say that I have been one of the people that is most effected by the nonsense in the classified section given the amount I buy. I just dont see why it is hard for people to follow the rules that couldn't be any clearer. The issue I see is there are no consequences for peoples actions when they violate the rules. Has anyone been suspended or banned for repeatedly ignoring the rules? A few people asked me recently why I was selling things the major reason was because I wanted to see the sellers perspective. I was shocked to see the low ball offers via pm and phone and also the nonsense of people trying to manipulate the system. I know it wont happen but I wish the mods could check pm's and address the backdoor deals because both the buyer and seller need to have consequences for their actions. For anyone that has the first with the cash mentality go to craigslist, ebay, and swapmeets. I would like to think that we hold ourselves to a higher standard here and your word still means something. Good luck to you Jim and George I feel for you and will totally understand when you shut down the classified section.

I say it should go the other way. It should cost you to purchase something, and to "get in line". Way to many members are "interested" or get "in line" with no intent to buy it seems. gums up the works and wastes everybody's time. I've been fifth or sixth in line and after a week of tire kickers I'm up to bat. It would be nice to see it more like a swap meet, if you want it, cash talks! no thinking about it for 48 hours, that's way to long. 3 hours max.

As far as the cars for sale section- no rules, no lines, CASH talks.

Exactly. I dont understand this "in line" response. Either you want it or you dont.

Exactly. I dont understand this "in line" response. Either you want it or you dont.

I think 48 hours is too long. I think 24 hours is doable. Sometimes you respond on an ad right before bedtime and you dont get a chance to log back in until the next evening after work, dinner, dishes etc

I think the first ill take it approach will work. However if you don't take it there should be consequences.

I like to say, Jim great job. as for the selling items. I understand the implied "interested" in an item when you ask a question. I think that if one is going to reply to a for sale ad they need to post 'interested' in their reply to the ad this way everyone knows that they are interested even if they need a few questions answered before they buy the item. I have sold some items here and bought some as well. Most of my selling is through the parts wanted section, responding to members requests.

    Just my thoughts David

Im new to this site and am thankful to eternity for the minds who post their wealth of knowledge on here. That alone is worth the 50.00 a year if it goes that way. But what I dont like and now know will never change is the system. No matter how you govern it will still be first come first serve which in a democratic society sounds great until you notice it is the same people getting the items. I cant get to an item first when retirees and computer superliterates get there before me. I also dont have bottomless pockets like others who buy parts sitting on them for 5 years knowing that that part will probably double in price. You see my car on my page. It was my fathers and he raced it in the mid 80s. Now its mine needing completed and never to be sold by me. It is sentimental. I dont mind paying a fair price (need to know what that is as a newbie) for items but seem like I cant. I have to compete with guys with 5 cars in their garage, retirees, superliterates, drag racers, and other guys claiming they have a personal use for everything wondering just how many cars they have if they do. Yes, I understand that that is what I am faced with when I use this site. Thats fine. Just dont claim it is about helping each other out because so far the only people I have seen help from is the owner of the site, moderators, and one buyer who gave me 20.00 more than I sold the item to him for. It is 2013-4 now and not 2006 and in seven years you have a concentrated amount of people that are more computer savvy, have more time, knowledge, and money, and less parts because of mother nature and hoarding. That leaves no room for sentimental today. I used to despise the guy that parts out a perfectly good car. Now I understand.

After my rant I go back to my first comment which is the only one that matters and that is in the tech section. Just that knowledge alone is worth the 50.00. But I will be honest. After taking that knowledge I may not come on a second year because putting together a car because that is what my father always talked about and what I remember as a child seems impossible. The only way to fix it is to delete it completely. Doing that would just mean another website popping up or us herd of cattle moving to other similar sites. I say pay to play. Everyone that wins on here makes out. Why shouldn't the owner and moderators of this site make out for their time?
