Andrew, thank you for posting and you are a contributor here. You just stuck up for the little guy here and maybe you will be the one that makes a different's here :TU:
I am recently new to the board and found it to be a great place to find info and parts that I would never otherwise know about. I am 60 years old and this is my first Buick so I do not know much about them but am learning fast due to the V8 Buick website. I have been purchasing items for my car off of the board and never knew there were rules about being "in line". Maybe several others did not know either. After reading this post--I went to find the rules. Guess what--they are on the sellers board. Since I have never sold anything-- I never read those rules. I recently found an item that I could not live without, had some questions as to if it would work on my car so I PM the seller. No response. I PM again. No response. I sent an email. No reponse. Was the seller abiding by the rules or was he just plain rude? I guess I will never know. Today (after knowing the rules) I got "in line" on an item and purchased it. The system worked great. Making a $50 fee for selling would be a great source of income for the board. I am OK with that. However, it will not solve the problems that I have been reading about. Only patience and integrity will solve this. It does seem that many are posting "in line" and then when it comes time--they are not interested. I see no way possible to solve that. They will always come up with an excuse.
sellers know ahead of time when they are going to sell parts or cars. seller puts ad up with reply start date/time. buyers cannot reply to ad until 24 or 36 or 48 hrs have gone by. this gives EVERYBODY a chance to get their head and monies collected and post SOLD. this alleviates 'interested' being used. you could also have ads posted on certain days. that way everybody knows when it happens. cars ads could be posted once a week with the same guide lines.
Not very feasible for those who don't work regular Monday to Friday 8:00 to 5:00 type jobs. Besides, why force a seller to wait up to 7 days for their ad to appear? This isn't fleabay where on can program the auction start day and time.
if the seller doesn't have a clue of what and when they are going to sell, they have a brain issue that needs attention. if buyers can't understand the start time, they need help too.
You might be missing my point, which is to say that many people don't live here. Most of us have this thing called "a job" which requires a certain amount of time. Your idea does not specify when a car for sale ad would go live. It implies that member would have to wait for ads to show up. I would have no desire to wait for my ad to be seen by others. uzzled:
James, your posting is in correct. You are making a play on words here. Thank you for the link though, it says it all in there. It also shows other members that had deals done with the seller other then just Andrew and my self. Dwane did NOT beat anyone and that is clear in that thread. It was wrong then, it is wrong now and sooner or later the smoke blows of and people can read and see the facts. And I was wrong about there not being rules in place, the rules were clearly broke with that back door sale. You say "it forced Jim to make some changes despite the poll clearly showing that the members didn't think changes were needed. Here is JW's post from 2005: Quote Originally Posted by TurboV6 If all of us on this board can be forthright and honest in our dealings, then I see absolutely no need to modify the current system. Yes, that is absolutely correct.... While instances of abuse are still reasonably few in number, they have been growing at an alarming rate. I knew of a number of instances in the last 4 months or so, but since this has been brought up, I have had emails an phone calls from folks who have told me about a whole bunch more shady things going on. Problem is, this has been happening for a while, but a lot of folks are reluctant to report it, or don't have any concrete proof. While I agree that the vast majority of transactions come off without a hitch, I always knew that at some point in time we would have to focus more attention on the classifieds. I am of the opinion that you put out a little fire with an extigusher, instead of watching it grow until you have to call in the fire department. How can anyone on this board screw this up?Either your # 1 in line or your NOT!Its great for the seller because he won't have to manage the pm's and the postings and believe me this can be hard to do.Brett, either the parts or forsale or there not!Alot of the problem we have here IS because the buyer can pic and choose who he wants to sell to because of money, personal or what ever reason they may have. My money is just as good as the next guy.Can you imagine if that kinda bidding were aloud to happen on e-bay?I'm sorry but this is a open form, if you post your parts forsale here they should be fair game for anyone that is a member here. Here's one more thing,I also think the seller should have 24 hours to get back to you or face having his thread being removed. This is like a election, the agenda is not clear and there is no one to vote for..........Chris I did not vote because an option was not available similar to the option Chris has mentioned. If this option were available I would vote for it. It is similar to the option of leaving it the same, but places more responsibility on the seller who is in the better position to take advantage of the situation. Members have, and will continue to take advantage of the system no matter what is done, but the playing field should be as fair as possible. What if the first response to a part forsale is "what is the part number?" or my favorite-"Do you have a picture?" Or any one of a hundred questions that someone may have to clarify what he would be buying. Then the second person to answer the post just says "I'll buy it " before number 1 responder gets clarification. I suppose #1 is going to have to say up front "I'll buy it" then risk looking bad if he has to renege on the deal. Having said that I must go along with what Chris and Patrick and some others are advocating that its first come first served and work out the details form there. Geeze Louis, Im sick of this Its all right here, I sure wish the NOS for sale thread wasn't deleted, then everyone could see how things really went down. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...ossible-quot-For-Sale-quot-forum-changes-Poll
The expanded and highlighted area is the very reason why I suggested a minimum number of photos accompany each part for sale ad. It is NOT changing the rules, rather adding a clear stipulation to the existing one. ou:
tom, you have way more posts than most here. I do have a job. up at 6am, home at 6pm, stop and check on my father every day and take care of his place on w/ends and my place too. also have to fix the farm equipment during the winter and plow his 1/2 mile driveway. and because of heart meds, I only sleep about 4-5 hrs a night max. my suggestion is just my suggestion. I don't run the show here. I hardly buy anything here, prices are too high and I run a dragster. I find most of my stuff on craigslist or racing junk.
Hi Jim! Being a fairly new member here...but no stranger to some of the other sites that have been listed in this post (i.e. Yenko.net), I believe that the parts section here is fine the way it is (although I have to agree with the point about adding pictures if at all possible...showing the part from all sides). I've bought a few things from here an have had nothing but pleasant experiences. I like Marxjunk's suggestions as well....and also the minimum number of posts is a good idea. You already have it in place for the pictures Thanks for a great site. Keep up the good work!:beer
I saw this ad today here on the board. Prime example of why I think a member should have a set number of post before they can post anything for sale. This guy is attacking our members that ask questions. Do you think he cares at all about following the rules? or even has any care about what the rules are? http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...sale!!!!!-easy-project-for-classic-car-lovers
Actually, although I may agree with some of the comments that were posted in that thread, the members making the comments are the ones violating the rules, not necessarily the seller. The rules were put in place by JW to specifically address this: Per JW: Effective immediately. Due to the high number of complaints I have recieved from users posting for sale ads, only to have the post overtaken by a flame war about prices, vehicle conditions, values, the rise and fall of the Roman Empire ect.. commentary will no longer be allowed in someone's ad. If you want to comment on something, make your own new post about it, in the Bench, or other appropriate forum. Reasonable requests for more pictures, info, or other sale related communication is still allowed. The moderators have been instructed to immediately delete any post that even hints of anything other than straightforward buying/selling discussion. Offenders of this new policy risk disciplinary action. Let's just buy and sell some parts folks, and keep the commetary to ourselves, or in other appropriate forums. It's, at the very least, rude to break up someone's for sale ad with your personal views on prevailing pricing trends, or other non-sale related information.
Chris, Like you, I was more dismayed at the comments and the turn that ad took, than I was about the seller. Come on guys, we know better. At that price, he will have a hard time selling a 69 Riv with what looks like a 75-6 455 in it. So it should really be a non-issue, one of those ads that gets no replies. JW
I agree. If it were a car on Evilbay, take your shots, but not here on the board. Civility should rule.
That is one change that is coming Mark, I just posted a poll for input on how many posts or how long a member. JW
Thanks for taking the time to post the polls and proactively search for input Jim! It really shows how good this board is.:TU:
