Thanks Tom. So your saying my local parts store should have all of these? Wait a minute, i'm talking about the stops under the upper control arm. Looks like a round ball cut in half with a press in tittie at the bottom that goes into the frame.
I don't know about a run of the mill parts store, but restoration suppliers will have them. I got mine from Tamraz (ebay store, also located in Plainfiled IL.) or The Parts Place, I don't remember which one I was using at the time. I'm sure Year One, OPGI, or probably any Chevelle supplier will have them.
$24 for a set of 4 from Ground Up in Connecticut.:TU: I haven't seen them listed at the usual parts stores either.o No: I need to get a set for my 66. I'll have to get a list together this week and order 'em.
Ok so here's the update. I recieved an order from Groundup retso. I bought a new set of front lower shock bolts and mounts. And got brand new rubber bump stops for the front and rear!! I think the whole order was under 30 bucks. Ok now about these stupid rearend pumpkin bushings.... I thought I had ordered from PST in jersey at a whopping 50 each, but 4 days after I ordered them (quite frankly, I was expecting them ) but instead I get a call from them stating " They won't be in stock until Nov 14". So whats the freaking deal?? It takes 4 days to realize they're not in stock?? People have no pride today. imo. So i'm stuck waiting for these bushings so I can reassemble the whole rolling chassis. I'm mising out on 2 weeks of decent weather to down right cold in a couple of weeks!!!! Sonovabit..
Hey Joe, Ames Performance has bushings. They are rubber though. Not sure if your going urethane or rubber. I recomend rubber. If not lube them suckerz up good so they don't squeek. Ames also has the control arm bolts and nuts (GM) and those shock bolts/nutz. I use them a lot for common GM A and F body stuff. www.amesperf.com. Got a complete '65 interior for me?!!!

I firured i'd do an update. So it took 3 weeks to get those stupid tiny rear bushings. Walt PST has them. $100 for rubber and $70 for poly. ( and 3 weeks to get em ) I went out there this past sunday finally and got the rear on the frame, front spindles are on, and all I have to complete the rolling frame is hook up the sway bars front and rear, tierods center link and idler. I got another 2.6 turn lock to lock NPD 65 chevelle box for the GS. I need one more day and it should be alltogether. I'll take pics tomorrow in the daylight.
Thanks Chris. It is going ok aside from getting stuck waiting for parts. The frame is 99 percent done. So the fenders inner fender wells and the radiator support is getting done this weekend. Then we have to start on the body!! Not sure why you can't see the pics Tyler.??
Well I had another rear in stock and used the better posi unit and went with the 308's. Oh and the pumpkin bushing mystery is solved, cost me 50 each!!! Hear that Walt? $100 bucks for rubber from PST. So the rear is in too. I will update some pics tomorrow if it's decent outside.
Just found this thread. Looks great! I'm just ahead of you on the project time line with my 65 GS; it just returned from paint on 12/07/08. And for future 65 restos NAPA has every suspension part except the rubber bumpers. They even carry the front upper control arm shafts with the zirk fittings.
Napa carries parts from Rare Parts, like the upper control arm shafts $130, and the '64 rear control arm bushings, which I thought were $38? I'm surprised the rubber bumpers are so hard to find! Rockauto had some listed as 'torque arm' bumpers? Best bet for the rubber bumper sets seems to be the resto suppliers. Joe, what rear came with your car? It should have a 3.36 rear with that 4 speed. The weather around here sucks lately...it's either cold, or pouring rain! Monday looks like a decent painting day, so get out there!:TU:
Yea it's been pretty nasty here too. Now as far as the rear goes, I believe it's got a 64 Sportwagon rear. Someone suggested that because it is an early car, that might be what they did. Because there wasn't a specific 65GS rear yet? Now the seals I got from JD Racing fit in the rear fine. So the 64 heavy duty sportwagon rear sound like a real good possibility. I don't remember the gear but I will dig it out and do a count and get back to you. I have been trying to reach out to Mr. Jeff Strube to try to get some answers on the rear. To no avail. Yet. I have his number but i'm trying to get him to respond to a pm. It certainly looks to be original to the car but you never know. If it ain't the original one to the car then he and I might have a small problem. What do you think Walt? I realize anything is possible but i'm trying to keep my composure.:rant:
