Well I have never had any luck with Drag radials, or any radial street tire!!:Smarty: If they worked better then real slicks, I would see them on more cars at the track!! I honestly I think the only reason to use them is if you want to run a class that requires them!!:Comp: When you lighten your car buy some NEW Bias ply slicks!! It will help!! Also a high-growth slick will help you run more MPH and turn lower RPM!! Ask Doug he runs a special Goodyear slick and it saves him 200-300 rpm in the lights !!!:TU:

Actually Rob, Mr. Boost, oops I mean Bobb, and I have talked about that very subject, the "High Growth Construction" Goodyears that I run. As far as radial slicks go though, John Jr runs them on the Skyhawk and he likes them. I'd give them a try on my car if they made them in a size and type I could use. They'd have to work damn good for me to give up the tires I run though, because I love'em! :TU:

Well I can tell you for sure they will never make a radial slick that grows enough for your car!! Also a radial slick will never grow at speed enough to make a difference in your RPM in the lights!!!:bla: If you want to hit the tires hard with a trans brake, you need a soft sidewall tire like a slick has. Its just not going to work with any drag radial? Every car from GN to GS I have raced has improved 2 tenths or more switching from drag radials to slicks!!! That is a proven fact!!:beers2:

NHRA pro stocks all run radials now. almost every ss/ and stock elimanator car in NHRA run them also. John stevens told me this weekend every car in the hemi challange at indy was wearing radials. I can only speak from my own car but when I went from Bias plys to hoosier radial slicks on my GSE car I picked up a solid consistent 4 hundreths in the sixty.

Do they make a high growth 10.5 tire? It would be interesting to see I only trap at 7000 most of the time though.

Yes Bob, But stockers do not have trans brakes they do not shock the tires as hard. As for high growth tires, they work!! I do not think they make them in small sizes? Ask GoodYear.:Do No:

Hey Rob, they make radial slicks in 32x14s like John Jr runs on the Skyhawk and that's the size I used to run before I went to the current 33x14.5s. What makes you think they won't make them to fit my car? You realize that we're talking about radial slicks, not drag radials, right? Like Bobb said, they run them in Pro Stock now. They might already have them to fit my car.

At the US Nats, every car in the HEMI challange had Radial slicks on it, and LOTS of the "SUPER" (8.90,9.90) cars also had them! :Smarty:

Yes I was talking about Drag Radials!!:Do No: Or any of the street/race tires they sell, BFG, Nitto, etc... I don't Know about radial slicks. But I would think that a radial design would have a stiffer side wall, and that would make it hard for the tire to grow. The huge side wall on your tires allows them to stretch and grow at high speed. Just like a Top Fuel dragster at speed, their tires are the reason they can go 330MPH at only 9000 RPM!!!:Smarty:

Hey Bob, Are you going to be at Cecil with some new tires to try to reset Doug's Fastest GS title? I think you might have a shot there!!:Do No:

Rob C. I run Hoosier Radial slicks, I like them so far, but, with my limited experience at this time I would not know. Are you sure 2 to 3 10ths. I will buy the tires, will you pay for em if you are wrong. Oh at Cecil would be cool Friday at cecil sounds like we should get more than enough runs in:3gears: :3gears: :Brow::idea2: :Smarty: :TU:

    Phil,
I was talking about Drag Radials, like BFGs, not radial slicks!! I think Radial slicks work , and have heard good things about them. I just don't think they can "grow" At high speeds like a Bias ply slick..:Dou: Does anyone else know?

The Radial Slicks will add some RPM at the finishline from what I understand.
Tom Rix probably has the most experience with them. He's been below 1.30 in 60 ft. with them.
I know some run 18-22 psi,This is one of the benefits,Less rolling resistance.

Have you run this new motor yet Rob?

if it's rubber, and fits on a rim, i've tried it....

hands down the Hoosier Drag Radial slicks are the best i've found by FAR, consistently 6 to 8 hundreths faster on ANY track, anywhere, in any temp, or conditions,... 19#'s cold and let em rip... swap sides every 8 to 10 passes though... money well spent

Hey Gary, there seems to be some confusion out there in Buickland, so I'm gonna clear things up. I guess when I started this thread, I didn't make it clear that this is NOT a new motor for Rob! This is the same motor he ran last season when he went 9.12. The dyno session that spurred me to start this thread was right after Rob fixed the problems he had with a cracked cylinder (and cracked sleeve!) and he wound up replacing the pistons because he broke a piston when the cylinder and sleeve caved in earlier this season. Rob never had this motor on the dyno before, so he didn't know how much power it made, but he's run 9.15 so far this season, so he's right there where he was before it broke.

I went from an M/T 28X10.50 to a Hoosier light weight radial slick 30X9. The car picked up about a tenth immediately and goes through the traps at the same rpm as the M/T's did. The tires on my car do not seem to grow at all and they hook on just about anything. I do run them at about 20psi. I would definitely buy them again.

I would love to try a set of Radial slicks also. My car crosses the end of the track at 7100 RPM with the 29.5 MT bias slicks. I remember that with the Pheonix 29.5 slicks I have , I ran 7000 RPM in the lights @ 146 mph, but they ran large and would grow more. If I go to a radial slick, I am afraid I may cross @ 7300RPM or more?:Dou: The Hoosier is the one to try, I just don't see a size near 30/13.5/15 !! Thats the largest size I can fit in my mini tubs!!:Do No:

Hey Gary, hoping to put the car in the 9.0's this Sunday at Atco NJ. Ill post it here Sunday night !!

Atco raceway sucked!!! Was not able to make any good runs!!:Dou: Guess I am waitin for Cecil to get that 9.0 !!:beers2:

Yeah, that place mobbed. I've never waited so long between runs in my life. Rob, and I made our first pass at 10:30 and the second one wasn't 'til after 2:30!! At least the track was hookin' real good!

Rob, what gear are you running?
I went to a 3.50 gear from 3.70 on JAGUICK to get the rpms down.

Did the same in BQUICK, went from 4.10 to 3.73.

I each case I lost a few in the 60 ft but MPH increased.
