Now going way back to the early 70s, this is the picture I have from my old Kenne-Bell catalog. I first got a set of Kustom Headers (2 in) for my 1970 GS stage1 back in 1972. They were okay, then in 1976 I purchased a set of Doug Thorley (1/78) headers again thru Kenne-Bell and they had a very good all around performance. Now in 1988 I purchased a set of MT headers from GSCA for little over $200.00. The headers do sound really, really nice, however, I did not see any great increase in performance over the Kustom or Doug headers. The only downside of the MT headers is ground clearance as they hang very low. I'm not going to get in this back in forth match here, although, I am the original owner of my 1970 GS Stage1 and I have been thru and seen a lot of items / parts that have come & gone. I'm so glad to see the Rochester QJ come back into street performance again.

I need a set. Ordered a set last run and they sold them to someone else. Did get a refund of my deposit but didn't solve my problem of lack of a set of MT's.

I wasn't aware anyone made any repro M/T SS headers for anything but a Buick!
Anyone know who made those BBC headers?

Here is a video of a Chevelle with some M/T SS headers. Sounds nice...

The pigs may be flying soon!

I have been in contact with a guy who has the rights to the tooling used to make the M/T repro headers. It is not Richard at the GSCA. In addition to RL, two other guys can have the headers made with the existing tooling.

I talked to him again today and he is interested in having a run of them made IF I can get enough people to commit (by means of a down payment) to buying a set of them. The down payment would probably be $250. He thinks the minimum required for the company to make them would be 25 sets. He is going to contact the manufacturer soon to get an idea on pricing and minimum sets required.

He is also going to check on different finishes. Most of the previous sets were chrome but I believe some of the later ones were done with a ceramic coating. We also discussed having some left bare for people wanting to coat or paint them themselves.

He is just not sure enough people would buy them to make this worthwhile. I told him I would buy a set so we only need 24 more people. Then he said he would also like another set. So I told him we now only need 23 more people! So maybe this will happen after all...

Those sound like obtainable numbers. Good luck!

I am interested in a set if they are built and priced well. What are the specs on the materials (flange/tube size, thickness, aluminized, steel etc.)?

No specs yet. I just convinced him today to look into having them made. He has not had time to talk to the manufacturer. Next time I talk to him I will see what specs he can get. I am assuming that they will be made the same as the previous runs.

Skip the coatings and make them in stainless!

I guess that could be an option, depending on what it would cost. But if they get too expensive, I don't think enough people will buy them.

The materials used probably have a significant effect on the sound they make, which seems to be their top selling point. So, using the original stuff may be the best choice anyway. :Do No:

Definitely interested once more specs are known.
Stainless would be great but cost could be a real issue.

I would really like to see that orange coating replicated.

We actually talked about that today. We wondered if the original orange color could be done with a ceramic coating. I'm not sure how many people would want orange though. But maybe it could be an option.
