I think it depends on what run of headers you got. I have a set of MT's that came with my car when I purchased it in 99. The flanges are very thick. They always sealed well.

Help me understand - I bought a set during the last run which was to be "THE LAST RUN EVER" and that is why I bought them.

Now, with all you pleading for everyone to help "Preserve Buick history" you are trying to get 100 people together to make another run. So far you have 8 maybe's but lets say they're definates... lets say through some miracle you get the 92 more you need to make that magic number of 100 and you go ahead and have them made ...

... how has that "Save(d) Buick History" ? there is no guarantee that they will make more after that - just like there is no guarantee that they will make any more PERIOD !

Why not try to get Mike at TA to make an Iron 455 Tomahawk bolck ? I think that would preserve Buick history alot more than a set of headers

  3. seems to me these headers have more to do with Mickey Thompson history rather than Buick history. damn, just go buy a set from somebody and move on with your project already.

you may need to look up Buick History, maybe go over some old dealership adds or ect...plus not everybody is looking to have a big block pumped up on juices just to have that radical sound...when all you need to do is buy a set of M/T SS Headers

Okay I have read the nonsense and I'll throw in my 2 cents before this thread gets closed up as it should because it has gone nowhere since may 10th.

    1) I think we both can agree M/Ts are what they are because of there sound, lets just get that out there in the open.
    2) TA headers are not cheapo.. Ask any buick guy and TA is the premium when it comes to ANY buick performance part. Fact.
    3) there is no signifcant gain of HP over an M/T vs any other buick header whether its a 360 HP stock 455, or a 1000 HP fire breathing tomahawk big block. Do a search on the board. Fact.
    4) You say your helping those who need them but this thread has shown that there just isnt a demand for these headers, the people that wanted them bought them during the last run. I just bought a crusty used set for $200 and they are gonna make the same sound as a shiny unused set.. Fact.
    5) the guys on this board are some of the nicest car (not just buick) people in the world. I came here as a know nothing 15 year old 4 years ago and have grown into a pretty smart Buick GS guy. With that being said I still have a lot to learn and I do so on this board everyday. I think it goes to show that this is an open minded board because the mods have let this thread run on. Even though its become a pissing match with you knocking down everyones suggestions to help you.
    6) I don't really understand what your saying in regards to the Chevy statement but clearly we do not have the luxury that the Chevy guys do. As a fellow car enthusiast I am sure you frequent car shows often, so let me
ask you this: when you attend a show, how many chevelles do you see? How many GS'? I bet there is a massive difference in chevelles compared to GS'. I think most of this board has gravitated towards Buicks because of the rarity and the fact that they are unique and different.

With that being said, Sir I applaud your persistance to get another run of these headers done. I hope you stay with Buick and don't turn to Chevy beause of headers.

I was going to say that a few days ago.:pp
I'd love to see any factory dealership add mentioning the headers.

I do believe the MT S/S headers were officially part of the "over-the-counter" Stage 2 high-performance package from Buick in 1969. When the Stage 2 heads came out for the 455, obviously the MT's wouldn't fit so Buick had special Stage 2 headers made. See attached magazine article...

  8. I thought i read that Kustom header manufactured the stage 2 headers and not MT.. i could be wrong

The Stage 2 headers for the Stage 2 heads were made by Kustom. But Buick had a Stage 2 package in 69 (before the Stage 2 heads were made) that used the standard 400 heads.

... from what I understand for '69, there was no "package" per say - there were pieces of the puzzle that made up the Stage_2 package but each piece was odered individually

There was a so called Stage2 package available from GM in '69,but you could order the parts separately.Thats how I ordered mine in early 1969 since I was able to get the Mt headers, edlebrock manifold and Holley 850 less expensive thru vendors vs Gm.The other parts came thru Gm,I got the whole package this way and its currently back on my '69 GS.except for the MTs which are repos.
I have an original set of MTs with the four bolt flanges that need some repair, hopefully Ill get this done and get installed in their place.

I would be in for a set if they are going to be good quality ( thick flange for no sealing issues). I have been doing research to weld up my own and still might, but if you guys can do a run of good quality at a reasonable price I will purchase a set :TU:
