You have me wondering, Alan..... With you, ya never know!!!

Welp, Yardley "Da Man" has the oil changed, a new fuel pump on order, the engine bay washed, the heater hoses swapped and the signed title expressed mailed to me! I'm sure there's about 50 other things he's done already. He did determine already that it is not posi!! :3gears: :3gears:

    I'm hoping for more pics......

    Can't wait until the 6th!

Well, after SIX trips to NAPA, here is what I can tell you about the 'Cat:

There IS rust on the dashboard, a small amount of it severe. There IS rust around the rear window, but based what what I've seen in my travels, it isn't too bad. At some point in this car's new life the windshield and backglass will have to come out and metal will have to be welded in. Not necessarily ASAP, but after you've enjoyed it for a year or so.

The carb is really a mess. A rebuild is NEEDED. I'll call Telesco and see if he can do it during the party. It should take him all of an hour or so. The idle mixture screws do NOTHING. It idles very rough and hesitates and bogs terribly. It leaves a black carbon mark in the driveway when idling. It pings BAD.

The interior is very musty. I've seen this before. $100 for new carpet will cure a LOT of ills. Also, I suggest (demand) that the seats be taken out and they (and under them) be scrubbed. The door panels can stay on, but need scrubbing.

Pine Tree air fresheners WON'T do it. It needs CLEANING.

Elbow grease, man. Good, old fashioned elbow grease. I'm sure your boys would LOVE to get their hands dirty with this.

    Here is what I propose...

Order the carpet and bring it with you.

We can pull the seats, scrub them, pull the carpet, scrub the floor pans, put in the new carpet and replace the seats. With a lot of hands it can be done in 2 hours.

Or you can drive it home and do it when you can. But 3 hours in a musty car may just kill you. And we'll have all the hands we need to just get it knocked out in a single morning.

Come down on Friday night and stay over. We can wrench and drink and whatever.

Overall, a very nice machine. It may just be too nice for you. It's definately too nice for Alan or Mooney.

Oh, and the trans fill tube is odd... The flange that gets bolted to the block that is welded on to the tube is in NO way anywhere NEAR the block. I'm talking 3" away! I have no idea what that means.

On TH400's and 455's the bolt hole on the flange lines right up with the bellhousing bolt in the back of the pass head.

    Hmmmm........

Oh, and I haven't changed heater hoses yet. With all the trips to NAPA and then to the Notary and UPS, I just ran out of time.

Besides, they are 2 different ID's. I only got the 3/4" one, which is dry rotted the worst, anyhoo.

Okey Dokey, carpet is on order. :TU:

Bummer on the dash, but hey, it's a 40 year old car. Doesn't sound like it's too bad, just needs some help. The engine compartment looks pretty good with the work that you did.

I wonder what's up with the trans tube?? :Do No:

I'll come down on Friday so long as I can get someone to drive my SS back home.

For the at least 100th time thanks so much for being such a good friend.

Now to resist the urge to look at dual quad set-ups and finned valve covers, etc, etc ....

You may also want to spend $7 and get the rubber end-caps for the sun visors where they hook into the rear-view mirror. Yours are MIA. They are available at all the resto places. Heck, Pep Boys might even have them blister-packed in the "Help" section.

I'll do what I can to pull the seats and carpet out before you arrive. If I can, I'll also scrub down the door panels as well. Once you arrive we can lay the carpet and reinstall the seats. Should only take a couple of hours.

See who Carl's coming with. Maybe even talk him into coming to stay overnight with you on Friday?

And for the 100th time, it is MY PLEASURE to help out. Nothing can compete with genuinely helping someone out.

Cool! Welcome to the Nailhead club! :beer
Glad to hear the ole 'cat found a good home!
Jeff, if you need anything, drop me a line...I have a few spare parts lying around here somewhere
Car Quest has carb rebuild kits for a '66 avail, and so does the auto parts store on County Line road in Warminster.

BTW, Marty (40 chev with the fuely nailhead) is building a 85 Regal with a nail and a 5 speed! He lives up by me....you two should stop by!

    See you soon!

Figures. I was just there today. No Car Quests by me, so I'll swing by the independent store and get a kit.

It isn't a Carter AFB, I was told it is a Rochester. It has 4 brass tubes sticking up in the center, all coming to a point around the air cleaner stud. Is that a Rochester? If so, what model?

It says "4 Jet" on the top of the carb.

See you on the 6th Walt!

Got a dual quad setup handy???

It will be a pleasure watching you and Tom Telesco tune this thing at the picnic. Should be a LOT of fun!

The right rear tire on this thing doesn't stand a chance, and that is with it running as terrible as it is right now!

That's NOT the carb on this car. I suppose it IS a Rochester like Tom Telesco said.

I'll get a rebuild kit for it.
