    Yards-

    Overnighting to you today:

    -Water Pump/Gasket
    -Thermostat/Gasket
    -Upper Radiator Hose
    -Lower Radiator Hose
    -Radiator Cap
-Fan Belt (only one, we need to figure length on the other)

The radiator should be at your house today or tomorrow.

The carpet is due to me tomorrow.

Also, three rattle cans of engine paint ordered from CARS with your house as the shipping address.

I'm going to go to Autozone today and exchange the points/condenser combo for separates and pick up the one remaining headlight that they didn't have in stock last time I went. My wires should also be in today. Anything else?

OK, the interior is ready to go. I still need to clean the driver's seat, but that should only take me 5 or 10 minutes. The interior smelled a bazillion times cleaner when I closed her up tonight. We'll see how it smells tomorrow after it gets to fester overnight.

I scrubbed the door panels, dash pad and dashboard, column, rear seat and side panels and the windows. The underhood is ready for green paint. All else is painted except for air cleaner lid and I should get to that tomorrow.

I ordered valve cover gaskets and should be able to get them painted before Monday. This thing will look really nice when you tool it home on the 7th. With the new carpet and all.

I still have to check all the fuses and lights and see if I can open the glove box.

I'll drop off the rad to see if it can be re-cored. Will let you know as soon as I do.

Hey Ken, how's this aluminum alternator bracket look? The alternator itself buffed up real nice too.

Anybody know the torque spec on the 401 head bolts? I'm assuming 100 ft lbs?

Holy Smokes Yardley! You're a machine! I give you credit for your determination and energy. I wish I had the drive that you have. Maybe you should postpone your picnic for a week, that way you'll have the car completely restified!!

    T minus 7 and here's the update...

Arrived in the mail today from Ken: water pump (already installed), thermostat/gasket, radiator cap, 2 hoses and a belt.

I picked up the valve cover gaskets and separate points and condensor.

I was able to get the pass valve cover and carb off. I cleaned the whole pass side of the engine. The alt base bracket has been buffed, the alt has been buffed and the upper alt bracket has been primered and ready for paint. I just need to pull the driver's side valve cover and clean it and the intake around it. Then we're ready for paint when it arrives from CARS.

I want to paint the balancer black, and hope I can get to it tomorrow. Right now it looks bare.

It is amazing what a wire tooth brush, a nice bristle brush, a bag of rags and a couple of cans of carb cleaner can accomplish with the right application!

However, this nailhead has metal tubing with fittings everywhere. The tube that runs from a fitting on the intake, over the driver's side valve cover and to the brake booster is stuck tight, and I can't apply too much force on it or I risk snapping off the fitting the hose connects into the manifold with. So I PB Blasted it and we'll see if it loosens up any. If I can't get it off then that valve cover will have to stay on and I'll just paint it and spray around the tube. I MAY be able to unscrew the fitting from the manifold with the tube still in it, but I may not. I'll do my best to yank that valve cover.

I also want to detail the trans kickdown electrical setup on the manifold. Lotsa wires in that thing, so I hope I can make it look presentable.

I buffed the door sill plates as well and they came up like chrome!

I'm guessing 30 hours invested so far. No matter how it turns out there will still be a lot of things I cut corners on that will have to be touched up down the road. I won't be able to paint the heads below the valve covers and around the spark plugs. Too much corrosion and no time to clean it well. I'll just be able to paint the areas readily visible when you pop the hood. At least enough to make it look semi-nice in a show.

The inner fenders need to be sanded and primed a few coats to be smooth enough for the black paint. They're pretty pitted. The frame has surface rust on it and needs to be sanded and primed. All stuff for down the road.

I sure wish that green paint was here. I want to begin buttoning this up.

Oh, and the radiator will have to have a new core made up custom for it. I should have that back Tuesday or Wednesday. All books list the same rad for this car as for other GM applications, but this car has the trans cooler lines on the DRIVER'S side, and the only available rad for this car has them on the pass side. Also, the hoses attach to the rad in the wrong locations too. That's why a recore is needed. And, of course, a stock core isn't available. CHA-CHING!

Also, Walt (WKILLGS) is supposed to come over on Sunday to help fit a Carter AFB onto this manifold. Will keep everyone posted.

Nice progress Yardley. :TU: It is a pain to wait for things but once you button everything back up and all at once, it makes it all worth while. :bglasses:
