I'm working OT all night, treating it like a blizzard situation. Stopped home for dinner and the power went off. Fired up the bigger generator, ran the cords, got the lights on, and the power came back on within 15 minutes. At least it's all set to go if we lose power again. The winds out there are FIERCE!!! Trees and limbs down all over.

It is as windy as a liberal politician here in Columbus. I can only imagine what the wind and water are doing in the Northeast. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My Dad and I pulled our 30ft blackwatch out of their dock and moved it into the backyard. should of left it in the water - tree just came down and smashed it of its supports...........smashed it good

another 2 feet water rise and the docks will be over the poles - and then there goes the 22ft CC..........and the docks

house is flooded in lower floor and tide is still coming in
At least the skylark is still safe:Dou:

Con Ed just announced it has begun to cut the power to lower Manhatten. The water at the Battery has exceeded the previois all time high level and it is still rising. Time to draft Larry back into action.

---------- Post added at 07:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:45 PM ----------

Anytime you still have power is good.

Con Ed said they would do that. Their explanation is that if seawater got into the works, it would result in more damage, and big delays . It was more advisable to cut power, pump it out when feasible, then restore power.

Transit shut down at 7PM last night. They are in good shape as long as they can keep the seawater out of the Battery Park subway tunnels. I worked for Surface. I'm not coming back unless they pay me triple time:laugh:

windy up here in s.e. mass. i was working today in boston on a new 22 story building which the top floors are open. rather breezy i had to say. i got home around 3 and a couple of trees came down in the woods behind my house, no damage. but a light pole came down in my neighbors driveway across the roof of their car. it was a utility owned pole that just lit up their driveway (it's a town thing) and it was rotted out anyway. the cars roof was just dented and it caused the pole to break again. we got lucky and only lost power for about 20 minutes around 2:30. the sky has been clear now for about an hour.

All my prayers for you guys out East.

Here near Detroit the sustained winds are bringing big trees down that survived the tornado in 2010, and I know we are fortunate to be this far from the coast unlike others.

    Prepared here.

    Devon.

Just after midnight for us on the east. Figured I'd do an update for those who don't know.

Battery Park NY had 13.8 foot storm surge. It's the all time record. Resulted in water getting into the subway terminal which could be a major problem for the electrical systems.

Much of NYC has water in the streets. Some areas are completely submerged. Lots of damage
    [IMG]

Atlantic City was just about wiped out.

The barrier islands off the coast of NJ and LI may not be there in the morning.

Narragansett Bay flooded over and left parts of RI submerged.

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

3/4ths of Long Island is dark ... over 750,000 houses. We lost power at around 4p and just got it back !

I'm Elated ... but charging back up

We (and most of LI) got very little rain - less than .5" but the winds were severe. over 50mph sustained for hours and hours with the strongest gustsjust below 100mph

flooding from the surge is going to be monumental in Manhatten and the whole perimeter of Long Island.

Sandy is long gone from Maryland, but the winds on the back side of the storm are beginning to push the water to the western shore of the Chesapeake bay.
Got up at 3 am to move the cars. At 6: 30 am we have above 2 ' of water on the road , nothing in the lower level yet. So far , we have been lucky. It looks as if NJ & NY
    got hit hard .
Stay safe up there and prayers for you !!!!!!
    Bill
