I saw where the LI sound is already almost at the max level of Irene and the eye of Sandy is still 250 miles out to sea. Today in NC we are getting wind and a few showers from it. I saw earlier that Atlanta is gettiing wind from it. At 946 mb I think this is the lowest pressure for a storm to reach New England. The records go back to the 1800s- almost pre Mooney.

The Great Lakes are getting 20-25 waves from the storm. We are talking big.

Alan-- do you have a generator?

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

Nope - was at Home Depot on Friday and they got a Semi-truck full (the $700 Powermate) ... they were unloading the truck 1 each directly onto the push carts and people were rolling them out like hot cakes. I called Wife.Com who said "What do we need a generator for ?" :puzzled:

I said remember that if the power goes out for a week. I thought about it anyway ... leave it in the back of the SUV and just return it on Thurs if its unused but didn't mostly because Im not set up to use one. Power th the Boiler is hardwired and the SubZero fridge is recessed with the plug behind. That thing isn't coming out without 3x Dave Hanlon's wrestling with it ... So, getting power to those necessities would be difficult at best. Both my sister and mom are about 20 miles west of me so If we lose power for too long I could always go there.

    ... Or the Wizards

I Think I'll put in a Generac next year

We installed a 10KW Generac in 2002. we love it. I just wish that we had gone bigger. My plan was to install a 17KW Generac next year, but an $11,000 "betterment" assessment (The town installed sewers in our street) has just killed me financially. I won't be spending any unnecessary $$ for a while.:Dou:

Alan --I saw a power outage map for your area. It was pretty widespread.

I would check to see if your inlaws are in it. This outage will be widespread like the ones we have here. Our last big one in 96 had people without power for one to two weeks. I would freeze all the water I could in the meantime.

WHEW....just drove back into the city and feel a lot safer here.

Driving was dangerous with the winds pushing us and a few tractor trailers around. All the bays out in the Hamptons are either at their max or on land already. Had a tree across my driveway that I had to move to make my escape. Emptied the fridge and freezer, all deck furniture is away, anything that was outside is inside and we be gone.
Back in the city the Long Island sound by LaGuardia airport is on the roads already and Sandy is still 250 miles away.

This is going to be real bad and I'm glad I got me and the wife out of the Hamptons.

Ron-- there must be hotels their own back up power generation. I would get one now before people see how long they will be out of power.

Jim, I can roll with the punches, I've got a couple of houses that we own that I can hang out at as this storm passes.
My largest concern is that my wife likes it in Sag Harbor and has chosen to live there year round, I have businesses in the city and must be here at least 4 days a week. I don't want her out there alone in a hurricaine.

So far so good here. We have not had much rain, but a lot of wind. Gusts have gone over 60 MPH, and could reach 70-80 tonight when Sandy makes landfall around midnight. Absolutely no flooding here.

Just heard landfall has been moved up to about 8PM tonight, right around high tide.

I've got both generators gassed up and all of my gas cans and our vehicles topped off. Cathy and I got the food shopping out of the way over the weekend, so now we just wait and see if the lights go out. At least with the amount of rain that's forecast, I'm not too concerned about the river going over it's banks, like during Irene last year. She hit us with 10 inches of rain in one night! I hope to never again have to deal with flooding like that in my lifetime! Power outage I can handle. Living in the middle of a river I don't want to remember. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for those of you in the coastal areas who might get flooded, because I feel your pain.

This one is going to be bad. My parents live on the water in Moriches and the morning high tide was almost at Irene's max. They will be under water for sure. Spent hours there yesterday securing the boats and moving furniture to higher ground. 2 story house. Just spent an hout there now trying to get them to leave but they are a stubborn bunch:rant:

So I get home and a very large Pine tree snapped in half and just grazed my rear garage (were my buick is). punched a small hole in the wall but easily could of crunched my 5 year project..........

And we have a long way to go

    good luck all

Winds began last night, rain. In Milford, MA we have numerous trees down (20 so far in the past 6 hours). We began the day with a service garage fire at 0730- haven't determined if it was wind damage or other.. We'll see what tomorrow brings..

-----3 more trees down as I typed this..---

Good luck to those on the shore :beer

This is a bay behind my daughters house in Jamesport. The nice sandy beech is usally at least 80 yards out from that wall.
The seawall is over 6' high and has been breached. Now I'm told it no longer is there and the beautiful yard will go next.
We haven't even seen the worst of Sandy yet.

My fingers are crossed for all y'all. I heard on the Weather Channel that the storm surge will wrap around the eye and get slingshotted on shore after the eye passes..and it may be 11 feet at Long Island.

The part that always sticks with me is when it is dark, the wind is howling and the ground begins to shake from trees falling.

We got lucky up here in Framingham. Seems we're far enough from everything that we just had some branches down and flickering lights. The neighbor lost some of their siding and the gas station across the street lost a cover panel from a pump. That's it so far. The weather report is that we've already had the worst of the winds and they're going to steadily drop off the rest of the night.

I'm hearing that New Bedford and Fall River and that whole region may be getting slammed pretty bad. Nothing like you folks in Jersey though.

The tracker I've been following has been 100% accurite and that was starting 2 days ago. If it keeps up its accuracy than the storm will actually make landfall at the mouth of the Delaware river. I'm sure the folks down in the Philly region are going to have a rough night.

I really feel for you all up there, these storms are a real pain. I can't imagine it happening when its cold out, when it hits us it usually hotter then hell. I'm sure you all have a whole different pile of troubles to deal with. Good luck I wish you well.
