I don’t get it. Some stations by us are $4.59/$4.79 for reg, but I can drive 15 min across the bridge to missouri and pay $3.70. Can’t be all tax related. Some gouging taking place. Diesel here is close to $5 a gallon everywhere I know it’s much worse in other states.

It could all be taxes actually. States do vary wildly.

Also gas prices are NOT at an all time high if you adjust for inflation.

    True.

But how inflation is calculated these days (excluding housing, food and energy) would be... An interesting discussion.

I agree that gas prices are high, but here in SW Florida they are headed down slightly. I have seen it at $4.79 at one station that has historically been a ripoff; $4.29 was the usual high for non-ripoff stations. Today it is possible to find $4.19, and even a few places at $4.09. Florida is a high gas tax state (shhh, don't tell the Massachusetts legislators that the Commonwealth actually has a lower gas tax then Florida).

Right outside Orlando Airport there was (still is?) a gas station that charged an extra dollar to dollar fifty a gallon hen gas was two bucks. It was the last place people returning rental cars could gas up.

Elsewhere in Orlando was another station near a mall that was similarly crazy high. I was just about to gas up -- as in credit card already processed -- when the wife starts shouting "Stop !Stop!".

I guess both places figgered they made less dealing fairly with 100% of people that drove up than they did ripping off however many people didn't notice.

Has not budged here for a week, still at $4.39 at almost every station. Strange how it went up $0.80 in two days as soon as Oil went up but has not come down as soon as oil went down.

Took the GS out today, first time this year as it was awakened from its winter sleep (nice 65 deg. day)and found a gas receipt from October when I last filled up with ethanol free at $3.29/gal. Its $4.97 now. Diesel is $5.29. Looks like my GS just went up in value at least $33 just for the gas in the tank alone and the increase in cost:D

In 2008 it got over 4$ I think it was around 4.10 Premium was probably 4.50. It just does not make any sense to cut off our own supply and I know we have a boatload, just to get us to use alternative energy? Is that just stupid or what?
We can do both until one has taken over and by then there will another fuel or alternative.

I have noticed that our friends here have not bought those electrics or put up solar panels all over the place yet. I would guess this stuff is not cheap and who is building this stuff as I hope we are.
You can do this solar stuff for small scale as in lights and such but you need the solar panel with 200-500 watts or so then go thru a controller then to the battery. From there you use a power inverter that can put out 200 or so watts and this would be enough to run some lights that are efficient. Still this could cost from 200 -1000 bucks depending on how much power you would need.

To me get our own fuel and be done with it and get your kids to work out the alternative to go 10-1000 miles in some kind of vehicle, can't be that hard we did this over a 100 years ago with autos so what's the problem kids brain non functioning.:D

It's not just the "G" and "P" words that shall not be mentioned on this board.

Many mega-corporations are beginning a war on the fossil fuel industry. For example, AIG has just announced that they will no longer insure coal companies. The ESG ratings these companies are implementing are going to transform how the average American lives, and not in a good way.

Pretty soon people will be listing their cars for sale saying the tank is half full like some sellers mention fresh oil change.
