Every time I go swimming the next day there is reported sighting of manatees in the area.o No: Lake Ponchatrain (9th largest lake in the US)is open and CLEAN for the first time in nearly 30 years. We stopped dredging for shells in the 90s and worked on the polluted rivers feeding it and it has been awesome for fishing and recreation recently. I video makes by blood boil. IMO it should be front page news....:rant: :rant:

"Fishers in St. Bernard Parish have been spotting an unusual amount of dead fish floating along the banks of the marshes in recent days, as the expanse of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill creeps more into the marshes of Breton and Chandeleur sounds. On a trip to monitor his oyster leases earlier this week, Shawn Assavedo came across a constant line of dead fish that spanned more than a mile along the banks in Eloi Bay, in the eastern and southern fringes of St. Bernard's marshes. He said other fishers had brought up the amount of dead fish in recent days, but he underestimated the expanse of the problem until he saw it. "I was just looking for one or two dead fish here or there, I wasn't expecting that kind of stuff," he said. "We've been living down here all our lives, and haven't ever seen anything like this." "NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- BP conceded Thursday that more oil than it estimated is gushing into the Gulf of Mexico as heavy crude washed into Louisiana's wetlands for the first time, feeding worries and uncertainty about the massive monthlong spill. Mark Proegler, a spokesman for oil giant BP PLC, said a mile-long tube inserted into a leaking pipe over the weekend is capturing 210,000 gallons a day -- the total amount the company and the Coast Guard have estimated is gushing into the sea -- but some is still escaping. He would not say how much. Several professors who have watched video of the leak have said they believe the amount spewing out is much higher than official estimates. Proegler said the 210,000 gallons -- 5,000 barrels -- has always been just an estimate because there is no way to measure how much is spilling from the seafloor. A statement released by BP Thursday stated the amount of oil being collected by the riser insertion tube tool is 3,000 barrels per day. There was no immediate explanation for the discrepancy between the amount given by BP and that reported by The Associated Press. "I would encourage people to take a look at the changing amount of oil coming from the ocean floor," said Steve Rinehart, another BP spokesman. Re: Free Oil!!!!! Come Get'cha Free Oil!!!! There are over 3900 offshore oil rigs in the Gulf right now. So there is a lot of influence in Washington from the oil companies. We are coming fast into hurricane season and since this oil fiasco started, watch a hurricane decide to blow up into the Gulf. Imagine the huge environmental mess it would cause inland in any state when that oil gets sucked up and deposited as rain. Whatever state gets hit with oil tainted rain will be an unliveable disaster area. We are seriously thinking of selling out now and moving far north. Feds are stating that there will be no fix until well into August. I think a lot longer. Amazing how the feds and media are playing off like this is really no big deal.

Hurricanes pull their moisture from the ocean, and it's very likely that a Gulf hurricane (or hell, an Atlantic one soon) could rain that GD oil on anyone. This is a very serious event. I'm scared for all of us from here to Europe to the Arctic. Did anyone see the 60 Minutes piece on this? That the blowout preventer seal came up into the rig a few days before? HEADS SHOULD ROLL.
