Its unbelievable, they're saying it'll be weeks to months before they can stop the oil leak depending on how things go.

Hard to believe in today's times that a company was not responsible for having a plan for something like this! Maybe they had a plan and it was a joke! This is a horrible event that came at the worst time too.

You guys have had enough hardship, now the fisheries (jobs) are gonna take a hit. Better stock up on flash-frozen shrimp while you can! I remember reading about an oil eating bacteria that could be used to help treat oil spills. I don't know if that was just developing technology, or if it is a viable control solution.

Most of the time the government requires them to have a back-up plan - in this case there was no requirement in place to put a "stop cap" on the hole which is prolonging this disaster.

Truly sad that there is absolutely no plan to deal with this disaster.

My heart goes out to all those who will be impacted by this mess.

We will all be impacted by this mess. Just some more than others. If BP actually pays for all the damage they will be out of business.

There is a good chance that this will be the greatest envionmental disaster in modern history.

I don't see how BP is going to survive this. Buick related? You don't think that this will impact the price of fuel for our Buicks?

I fuel up the '96 Riviera with 93 premium every friday at a BP station that is next to my bank.

Not so sure I can patronize them anymore sorry to say.
I know the station owner didn't have a hand in what happened, but....:(

Re: Free Oil!!!!! Come Get'cha Free Oil!!!!

BP, like any other entity with any sense at all, would do all possible to avoid any forseable circumstance that might lead to a disaster like this. Individual actions or inactions (if there were any) that might have caused this probably seamed perfectly reasonable at the time. We all employ risk management everyday to the way we drive, the way we build our engines, the way we conduct our businesses, the way we raise our kids, etc. etc. etc. There is no way that this disaster is inside the BP business plan.

Meanwhile, as tragic as this is, I'm quite sure that many of the same people who will now seek to eviscerate BP were bitching about the cost of fuel not so many moons ago. To them I say "how much more are you willing spend on fuel to MAYBE see a disaster like this avoided next time?"
