Those crystals are frozen methane gas from what I have been reading. Fox News reporter was cut off a few times in a row trying to report that. I don't think BP wants us to get the idea that there is a huge amount of methane down there. I have read it as being described like an oil volcano topped off with methane gas. It seems to be also leaking from the sea bed itself . This could turn very bad. I'm ready to evacuate from Florida if needed. See what happens.

Remember when Jed shot the ground and up came a bubbling crude? Well, BP shot the ground with a REALLY big gun this time.

The news here says they are only getting 20% of what is spilling out and that they plan to cement up the hole.

How do you cement something under water?

And, if they do, I can see it busting open again in the future.

Jason I really appreciate the hands on at the scene updates. Up here in NY you hear all sorts of stories from both ends of the spectrum. Sort of frustrating as I don't believe any of them.

Since the Katrina fiasco and your first hand accounts I found it truthful and refreshing and educational on the do's and don'ts and how to prepare yourself. Thanks.

I for one would be pissed if this thread was pulled. Lets all just keep our political views in check here and keep the discussions open and civil and to the point of the subject regarding the leak and what is going on. Bottom line REGARDLESS who is in office they all do and have done the same crap so its like spitting in the wind when we spin off on who's party or who's politician is better. Keep it to positive suggestions and information and ideas. :TU:

    Thanks Ric!!!!!I agree.:beer
They have been changing estimates for everything so please don't hold any wrong numbers against me:Dou: . Some scientists have the spill pegged at 2,000- 25,000 A DAY (some sources peg it way above that)!!!!!! The government says (from overview pics  ) that it has been 5,000. Problem is, there literally is "blobs or "plumes" of heavier oil under the surface-"uncountable" said Samantha Joye, a professor of marine sciences at the University of Georgia. She said careful measurements taken of ONE plume showed it stretching for 10 miles, with a 3-mile width.

Top Minerals management Services official Chris Oynes resigned. He oversaw the offshore drilling. Did you know BP HAD NO "WORSE CASE SENARIO" plan??? They were supposed to but MMS never checked some records apparently.

To plug it, they will pump "top kill"-injecting mud (40 barrels a minute) into the well and seal it with cement. I hope Halliburton has nothing to do with this as there is suspicion to believe "bad" concrete is partially to blame. Also as I said before they were responsible for the E. Timor spill of Australia last year.

But hey, at least they're no longer considering shooting tires and golf balls into it anymore....:idea2:

And I guess I'm not buying that bay boat this year. Friends and neighbors are pissed. We can't even enjoy our own fisheries.....:ball:

Read up. It'll make you sick....

Anyone else catch the interview 60 Minutes did with that guy that was one of the last survivors off the rig when it blew?

I think what is most frustrating is that we sit here as individuals and have no power to help solve the sitiuation.
Jason, my prayers go out to everyone in the region who count on the riches from the Gulf for thier livelihood.
Heck, I enjoy the seafood we get from your region! I'm thinking I should stock up while I can.

Now I hear crap is washing up on the shores of Key West, FL.

It's gone beyond some barrier islands and has reached some marshes with the high tide. That marsh will die now.
More erosion will take place leading to more square miles gone under that would otherwise slow and absorb storm surge. The breeding and hunting grounds of aquatic life from a certain algae that is the basic provider of nutrients to shrimp , crab and the fish that feed on them will no longer have the security to grow (if they don't just get poisoned right off).

    This just sucks.:(

According to an "expert" in flow measurement, the CBS Early Show this morning stated that the actual flow from the oil leak is more like 3 million gallons a day, then the BP position that the leak is 210,000 gallons per day.
As I recall, BP had a major mess up in Alaska some years ago. And they have the nerve to use the color green in their logo...

Anyone find it interesting that gasoline prices have been dropping since this got out of hand? Down about .25 in the past week here.
History has shown that even a trash can fire is used as an excuse by the oil industry to jack up prices.

Seems kinda odd. Just sayin' :puzzled:

Checking gasbuddy.com, the average price in the Houston metro
area is $2.69. The one-month average chart shows about $2.70
back on 4/20, spiking to $2.77 on 5/6, dropping to $2.69 today.

gas prices are dropping due to the uncertanty of the Euro and the economic climate abroad ... has nothing really to do with BP and the gulf mess.

Probably is just coincidence and has no connection.

It went from $2.94-$2.96 for 87 down to $2.67 inside of a week.
An unusually fast drop. Usually goes up that amount overnight.

I watched that video too. And all I can say is if those new casters had any balls they would of kept filming and told them to go ahead arrest us. Get it all on video and make the national headlines instead of some buried on page 10 blog. And Katie Couric (spelling?) the dummy, instead she asks about the wild life. Daa.. we all know the wildlife is hurting and being killed. What we all DON'T know is WHY there is a cover up with a media black out assisted by the coast guard. She would know a National headline if it smacked her in the face and this could have been just that.
