The positive battery cable is a real pain to replace as the battery is on the left side and the starter is on the right side.

    What the heck is that?
I think an electric fuel pump would help my big ol engine out..or maybe a new stock replacement

Why? The car should work perfectly with the factory equipped mechanical pump.

Dont just throw parts at the problem. Thats no way to fix a car. Test the fuel pump. If it doesnt pass the test, then replace it. No sense in changing out good parts

I know i have an earth fault on the car and it would not turn over very fast.I found if i earthed/run a neutral to i think u guys call it the fire wall it turned over quick.I am still replacing bits as and when i can afford it shipping cost a fortune.

Ade, let's not get off the beam here.

Tomorrow, before you do anything to it, we need you to do this:

Remove the air cleaner assembly. Lean WAY over the fender until you can easily look down into the carburetor. It will require you to basically crawl into the engine bay over the driver's side fender.

While looking in the carb pump the gas pedal on the side of the carb.

The choke should snap shut. If it does, then hold it open with one hand and pump the gas again. You should see gas squirt into the carb.

If you don't see gas, then it drained overnight and a new fuel pump should help that. If you see gas, then pump it 7 or 8 more times and try starting it up. Without a choke I have to pump mine that many times to get it to fire up.

If the choke doesn't snap shut, then an adjustment is needed there.

If it still won't fire up, turn the distributor about 1/4" counterclock wise and try to start it again.

Does anybody live near Salinas that could go give Ade a hand here????

Hi, ive read through most of this thread. ihad a similar problem with my delivery truck (yes delivery truck) never wanted to start cold. when warmed up no problem. my problem was as simple as a small rubber hose from the air filter assembly to carb. this hose would just snag the lever that would activate the choke and not allow it to close. when i finally realized that it would start every time with no air cleaner on it i put 2 and 2 together. you've probably tried that but i remember the agrivation it gave me.

You guys ever actually have the gas drain back out of the carb? That seems really odd what with the float valve up at the top of the bowl and all. A leak seems more likely, and as I recall Q-jets do sometimes leak. Just something to not forget about.
