As some of you may know my rivi was running fine until i brought it to a shop to get a pertronix points eliminator in it...ever since then the guy has not been able to get it to run
The carb gets gas and the plugs all have spark. He tries to start it...its sputters backfires and dies. He tells me the distributor has play blah blah blah...first thing I think is timing.
He closes the shop...my cars outside so I go check it out myself...First thing i check is firing order...which if im correct for my 430 is 18436572.
He has it hooked up something like 13572468...!!!
Is it jme whos wrong or was I right and this guys an idiot and just didnt do the firing order/timing right.

Please tell me he did that simple something wrong so i dont have to pay his stupid @$$ and do it myself.

you may want to take the cap off with the engine at TDC and see if the rotor is pointing where cylinder one is supposed to be if he did that kind of bone head move..

Wow...i am so mad right now! :af:

This idiot is telling me it cant start cause of all these other reasons and he doesnt even know how to put the right firing order up!!!
Now hes on vacation all through next week and hes got my car all blocked in...new headers coming in tomorrow a new carpet and exhaust just sitting in my room and nothing to do with them all cause this guy doesnt know his stuff!
Im stuck without my car for an extra week for no reason.
Im gonna go ahead and use a quote from Yardley with something that he recently told me "People who you get to try to work on your car will treat it like a chevelle and mess it up."
    Yardley your 100% correctomundo!

Yeah maybe not...guess they didnt teach him that in mechanic school either...what a surprise is he gonna have with the note i have on my hood for him when he gets back!
And the only money he is getting out of my pocket is for the pertronix.
Its already been in his shop for a whole month for this simple job by the way

Whats so bad about points? Points rock

    68riviera430 BRRRRAAAAP!

The main reason I got this installed is because my rivi was real hit or miss on starting up on cold mornings...i was told it was because something to do with moisture in the points or something...

horror stories like this is why a lot of people don't trust mechanics. adrian, there are a lot of hard working, competent mechanics out there. too bad you had to get a bad apple. hope you get this mess straightened out.

BigBlock68 Love that old car smell.

Just telling you now, that Pertronix is a short term solution for not wanting to mess with points. I'm pretty sure my SECOND Ignitor II just took a dump on me and I'm putting points back in to make sure that's the problem. The first one burned up thanks to their "high output coil" and left me stuck in a parking lot on a lovely 95 degree day. Once I verify Pertronix is the problem, I'm going to contact Dave Ray about a HEI rebuild.

You may want to save up for a good HEI. I wish I had the first time.
