Adrian do you know how to check the firing order. Do you know which way the dist. turns. Personally I'm a little skepticle that any one that has a shop would go with 13572468. I can see where he might use a ford firing order or maybe assume the later Buick V8's have the same firing order as a nailhead
but i'm having trouble with this story. And please don't assume I'm calling you a liar I'm just not sure of the info you are passing on. For one thing you said it tries to start and then dies. Well with the described firing order there is only one cylinder that would fire properly and that is number one. I don't think
that's enough to make it run at all with all the rest firing at the wrong time.
Maybe you should take another look.:Do No: Good Luck.

I agree, Like I said, I find this very difficult to believe. I think you should take another look also.

Hey Adrian, Your original starting problem sounds like it may be an electrical issue. If your battery is on its way out it may act just as your describing. When the battery temp drops the chemical action slows down causing the battery output to decrease. When the temperature rises the action speeds up and the output increases making it is easier for the battery to start the car in warmer weather. This is true regardless of the age of the battery but older batteries are more sensitive to temperature change. You should also check all the electrical connections. A poor connection can cause a voltage drop leading to intermittent starting problems. Of course I wouldnt rule out the ignition but I would take a good look at the battery and connections.

BigBlock68 Love that old car smell.

Dave Ray's conversion runs $195 for swapping over your old points type. $160 if its being rebuilt as a trigger for an MSD unit.

Jegs looks like there is a delay in shipping it, but they have it. Why don't you call them and ask. That would be the simplest way to find out for sure. Maybe it is a problem with Crane

weve been using pertronix kits for years at our shhop w/ no problems of them burning out
when i put mine in though i never took out the distributor and adjusteed the up and dpwn play w/ the provided shims, it would backfire when cramking but ran great after started took it out and set freeplay and no problems since. should have just done it the first time. get your firing order straight and go from there THIS MECHANIC IS GIVING US TECHNICIANS A BAD NAME

Just picked up a set of MSD Super conductor 8.5 mm.
New spark plugs (Ngk are those alright? Will they work with shorty headers?)
Fuel pump (Its Carter is that good?)
Replaced cap and rotor and fuel filter about a week ago.

those MSD 8.5 wires rock! I loved them on my wagon. I always ran AC spark plugs, R44TS except the wagon I ran R42TS in it, it really liked the colder plugs
