Those rims look like as "good" as a big ass tatoo on your neck!!!

Some people think that both are currently "cool"!!

Time will tell if they have made a poor choice!

At least you can take off the rims!:puzzled:

    Then what's a "SLAB"? :Do No::confused:

Either way, to own a car that these terms are directed towards and be proud of the particular term defining that car...is just plain silly. I am much happier with the term "muscle" or "classic", than "box", "donk", "bubble", "slab" or any other fruitloop name that is come up with to "define" a car.

I will agree that there are some (very few IMHO) CARS that look good with big wheels when done "right". A late 60's Continental is an example. When done "right" is has a very mean and agressive stance but still retains the sleek "classy" look. Would I own one that looked like that? No I would not. But I can respect the vision, the work, and the outcome WHEN IT'S DONE "RIGHT"!!

Slapping big ass shiny rims on a car that doesn't need it in the first place, just because you have the coin to do so, is NOT doing it "right". Not specifically talking about you Bill, just a general observation of the cars I usually see here in Houston with big rims and/or a lift...the money just simply could have been much better and intelligently spent elsewhere on the car...

To do it "right", and make it look just as badass as the cars you might like at shows and things, you would have to dump all kinds of money into the project and make it a true "custom" vehicle. Taking a stock appearing vehicle and putting big wheels on it, would just be disproportionate to the overall look of the vehicle as a whole...again, just IMHO.

Anybody catch the fact that the donk with clear rims has no front brakes??....
Was that Donk or Dork, always get those 2 mixed up- and the blue skylark was right on the edge-looked almost good but too much rim.

Since ya asked, yes it is stupid. :error: Not good "stupid" from hood slang, but stupid as in dumb. Lets see, A few thou in wheels and rubber you hope doesn't get "jacked" on a car worth less than your "kicks" :Dou: . Poor ride quality.:( Feel every pebble in the road.:( The wear factor will cost you a bunch as you will soon get eggs, and road rash on your set up is just-well stupid!!!!:spank: With exception of the first 'Lark you posted, they make me weep for those poor undefended Tri-Shields!:ball: What has that car ever done to you!?!?!?! :Do No:
That being said,18inis more than enough. you must have never had people in the backseat listening to your tires rub. :eek2:

No offense, But this may not be the site for you. It's not classy and those tires will rub on the Chebby (if he has passengers) :Dou:
What gearing are you gonna run w/ 24 in rubber???? 8.6's???????? :puzzled:

Yep, And I should not have dropped that 500mics of window pane.  :beer :bglasses: But the meteor shower is on. :) Dude, look at my hand..................................................................................

Good thing you didn't mention heads!!!!!!!!! :TU: Necks are silly!!!!

Just stick a blade in the rubber bands, you'll feel better!!!!! I know I did!!!:idea2:

If you're down under, referring to your "donk" means your motor/engine.

Down here, slab = 24 pack o' beers :beer

    "My donk's busted."
"Lets get a slab and fix it then!"

    Huge rims=gay.

What you're also doing is making your car much slower, less responsive, and potentially dangerous. Large wheels like the ones pictured in this post weigh a LOT. The increased load on your suspension causes accellerated wear on brakes, bearings, gears, bushings, ball joints & more. Forget about any ride quality or comfort, that just went out the window. More wear on your rear end, transmission & engine. Yeah, go ahead...

Why? Because what's aesthetically pleasing to me is in contrast to the majority on this board...please. I'm a proud Buick owner just like everyone else on this board. My Buick may not be as nice as some of these others on this board but it is all Buick...down to the factory rally wheels.

If I did own a car like that why in the world would I choose to have a load of people in it? I don't know about you guys but my old school is my hobby, not my grocery getter. If I'm gonna load the family up, it's gonna be in my 4 door daily driver (that runs high 13's btw) with abs, tcs, front airbags, side impact airbags, etc. And if it's speed I want I'll trailor up the ZX-14 and hit the track.

I love my Buick for it's classic look and b/c it's unique. No matter if I ride on dubs or 225 70 14s...the ride will be rough b/c it's a 40 year old car with 40 year old technology for crying out loud. If I could afford to put bigger and better brakes, suspension, and gears on my Skylark I would put dubs back on it in a heartbeat. But I can't, so it's totally original.

I've been coming to this site for the past 7yrs because in most cases there are some truly incredibly knowledgable and courteous gearheads here that are nice enough to share...which really makes v8buick.com unique.

Calm down Ben ... and btw, its nice to see you post after all these years :beer

I think the problem with the Dub/Donk look is that alot of times the car is trashed in the transformation ... ok trashed may be a bit harsh but from a purist / Buick collectable / stand point the huge wheels usually means alot else has also been changed.

How many Regals have "transformed" beyond ever being able to go back to something that resembled what it originally was ? and Rivi's too

I think thats what gets peoples' blood boiling more than just a set of big hoops ... but thats where it usually all starts.

Settle down Ben, I feel ya. :beer I'm just sayin if you're into Donks,Bubbles and the lowrider "culture" this is not that sort of site. :Smarty: There is no thread pertaining to chroming frames and inner fenders. :Dou: Now You have a Buick and that's great. :TU: Glad you're here.:) Ask all the questions you want to about maintainence, repair and improvement, but 22's and more? (insert puking smilie here)

P.S Why don't you put your family and friends in all of your cars???? :Do No: That's what there FOR my friend!!!!!!!!!:3gears:

You know what, it is amazing to me how one person does something there own way and get knocked for it but when Chip Foose does a custom design with bigger wheels and everyone is in foaming at the mouth :puzzled:

I wonder what the next trend in wheels will be?
Though, in keeping with the baggy pants around your knees hold 'em up with your hands on your crotch fashion, 22"+ wheels will probably be around 20 years from now too.

I saw a '71 Cutlass at an intersection yesterday with a set of these conestoga wheels on it, and it seemed like the driver had to take the turn gently as if he was walking on eggs.

Most of the Chip Foose stuff, at least what I've seen, he drops the car around the larger wheels and can't be using much bigger than 20" wheels anyway. Even then it can sometimes be questionable depending on the size of the car and what not. And just because the car sits down around the wheels doesnt mean the wheels aren't too big in the first place causing the end result to look goofy. Just my take on things.

I'm Tim, 29 y/o, grew up around the start of the phase and can't stand em. I like up to a 17-18 on a classic with good meat on the rubber. Anything past that, and I assume you have issues with components under your ride and are too lazy to use a jack. Just my 2 cents. The biggest I put on my Avalanche is 20" only due to excessive tire roll while dodging the traffic gnats in Houston who like to cut me off without checking their mirrors.

i was by no means knocking you,

Not a fan of chip foose either in fact 18s is to big for me.

    I dont like a skylark\GS with 15 in cragers....

but thats me, Im very picky in cars.

Sorry if I insulted you I was just giving my honest opinion

"Just want to know everyones opinion... I'm going to post some pics"

A quote from Billy on the very first line of this thread.

I don't know what "opinion" means to some people but what I like is when people get bent out of shape when somebody gives one that differs from theirs. Let's face it most of the people on this site like the look of classic wheel sizes and could put up with some slightly larger ones but there isn't much call for the so called "neo-classic"(from last year) wheels.

That Chevelle probably has bags on it to be that low otherwise it couldn't move because of rubbing. In my opinion there is wayyyy too much wheel and not enough rubber. You can barely see the tires on it. Pretty much rubber bands. I like to see some rubber on the rim. Airbags are ok but what's with dropping it down that low when guys park? Lower is ok, but on the ground? What does that prove? Is that trying to show what your car would look like if all four springs were broken. I don't get it.

That kind of wheel and tire setup is pretty much worthless for handling. No sidewall is probably worse than too much sidewall. Look at what Nascar runs and Formula 1. I think if tire and wheel setups with no sidewall to speak of worked Formula 1 would be using them. I think it is pretty much awknowledged that a 17-18" wheel is about the optimum for a handling/braking balance.

Something else. There's no reason a 40 year old car should ride badly down the road. Maybe it won't handle like a newer car but it should be very close in ride. If those cars had anything they usually had a smooth ride. If yours doesn't then maybe some maintainence is long overdue.

As far as other sites go nobody is saying you have to go because your opinion is different from theirs. I think they are saying you'd be better off checking other sites on this topic because their tastes would align better with yours and you would get more usefull feedback about the outsized wheels.

Oh yea. I'd love to pick up a set of those 17" Billet Buick wheels(SWEET!) that look just like the 15" factory wheels but before I drop $2600 + tire $$$ on my '76 Century there'll be a Procharger setup or stroker with aluminum heads under the hood.
