Not a fan of massive "modern" style rims on older cars. But on ridiculously large cars, like say, an Estate with massive wheel arches, you have to fill 'em. Shouldn't need a step ladder to get in though..... p
Bingo. Seeing classic cars in garb like that makes me ill. But if it makes you happy, put whatever you want on your car.
I was thinking 22's. It will fill the big wheel well, it wont rub and I wont have to raise the car. I don't see how that could possibly look bad? But then again I'm not very picky. I'd rather drive an old wrecked rusty and falling apart station wagon than most of these ugly economy cars on the road these days. :laugh:
How old are you Bill? Just curious. I wouldn't say "Classy" is a word I would use to describe the look.

Say what you want...you can put big rims on a muscle car and still keep the classy look. There's absolutlely nothing wrong with big rims if you do it right and can afford the upgrades to keep it a true performer. This Chebby is a great example!
Bigger is not always better, it's like going to a stripperbar.... too big at some point becomes ridiculous!:eek2:
As the owner of a same-era B-body, I would suggest you keep the rallyes you have on there now. They look great. White walls will give you a classy look, black walls will give you an understated look, and raised white letter will give you a performance look. In my mind, you already have the perfect wheels -- you can't go wrong. Personally, the donk rims are not my thing -- they look gaudy to me.
Well...i agree with 18 being the limit..unless your in a big SUV At one point, like that green car posted....Your car is going to be hurting rolling on wheels that big..not to mention if that thing is driven....2/mpguzzled: ouch
I would say that it is your car and you should do what makes you happy. I got staggered rims on mine 20x8 in the front and 20x9.5 in the rear. But you should remember to keep in mind the word class. Don't over do it just do it enough to get the look that you like and not everyone else's!
on an a-body 17-18. unless you can keep the wheels under the wheel wells. these are 17". btw... this car is for sale as it's my buddies.
Exactly. When the car is two feet off the ground or jacked up in front to clear the tires of course it looks dumb, they aren't 4x4's but a nice set of large wheels tucked under the body and done properly with the right stance looks downright mean. As for handling and tracking well it has to be set up for the new combo. The wider the footprint the more it will track the ruts, new cars do this too, alignment can help in this area but should be planned out ahead of time to avoid issues such as turn radius etc that somebody mentioned earlier. Larger wheels can help with handling, grip, and are lighter than 15" steel stockers too in a lot of cases. To each his own o No:

I really dislike using that term, but I remember back some time ago on this site that a word was used describing something that looked simply atrocious, and not understanding the meaning, I asked and was informed of it's "somewhat" meaning, as I understand it, as it comes from the land of "down under" I do believe. I'm sorry but to me that Chevelle looks like the springs are broken. Its the opposite extreme of the donk look. When will people learn that the "if a little is good a lot must be better" route rarely holds true? I have 17s on my car and it sat kinda low but the headers scraped so up it went. I think it looks better now anyhow.
I hate the new trend of big wheels. In my opinion it's just that a trend and will fade like alot of other things. I put alot of money into my car and want something that is timeless. That's just my preference, but I agree people should do what they like that's what makes this hobby fun.
actually it would be a BOX. the terms are DONK -A Donk is a 71-76 chevy Impala or Caprice. That sits on 22 to 26 inch rims the higher the better. BOX - A 1977-1990 Chevrolet Impala or Caprice having the square body style. BUBBLE. - A late model, 90's Chevy caprice If he can get the car to sit like this It could be ok. but still not my cup of tea, but well done.
