My motor isnt a VVT, thats on the newer models, and about all i know is that it has cam phasers....and then im lost :idea2:, sorry couldnt be more help on that.
lq9 motor, 4l80 trans, wirng harness and pc=== $2000 turbo, wastegate, blow off valve=== $1200 ....and ill have the same power to the wheels as my procharged buick motor with 100 less cubic inches, atleast 10 more mpg, and 2-3 less psi of boost and im not going into how much the 3 cracked buick blocks cost me, weve all been there and know what it costs
Your exactly right and ive already had a few people try to change my mind or tell me how wrong I am...hot rodding is what makes racing of all kinds and customizing so fun and lasting all these years ...And heck, if they dont like it, it doesnt bother me one bit, and to be honest, getting a buick car was a bad idea (what i was told coming from the chevy world) but hey, i like being different and so far, no one complains in the end and the car still turns heads, cant beat that!!!
Whats the compression ratio on that LQ9? Are they Hypertectic pistons or are the forged from the factory?
factory compression is 10 to 1, not sure on the pistons but they are not forged, but with a good tune they will handle 500rwhp for a long time...also, theres plenty of people putting down 600 ad 700rwhp numbers on these blocks and last for quite a few years, just have to mke sure you don't detonate, need meth injection or good gas, and always a good safe tune
I'm just glad you prevented another car from the crusher. At least it IS keeping the Buick image alive. Most of my vehicles don't have their original factory drivetrains, and I enjoy them. BUMP all the nay-sayers.:moonu: They better have 100% concourse NOS / OEM cars then. It's all in what YOU want it to be, in the long run.
The new snail came in today!!! Borg Werner/Airwerks S400 75mm T6 divided housing with 1.10 AR Looks like a 5in inlet, 3 in cold side, 4 1/2 hot side
Cool Project. Thanks for sharing with us. And don't worry about the ribbing you're taking! I Cloned out a GSX out of a Rust Free Skylark and dropped an LS2 in it along with a 4 speed OD trans and I love it! The car weighs 3,300 pounds with A/C and Power everything and that Lil LS2 makes "around" 600 Horse which is just enough to make the car fun and competitive on the street. (Not to mention the added fuel milage) You'll never build something that EVERYONE will like so build what YOU like and enjoy it. I'm also building a Stock Appearing 70 GS with Buick Power and you've had Buick Powered cars before so even the purists need to cut us some slack!! LOL We're just Hot Rodders keeping the Hobby alive! And as I've mentioned before, I like to think of these LSX motors as GM Corporate Motors. A vintage SBC is a little different "Swap" - In my opinion.
Thanks Toddsgs. Intercooler came in last week and the cold side piping and couplers came in yesterday. Hopefully everything will be wired up and running by the end of next week or so and ill have some numbers. Just 7lbs by the way.
Awesome looking project, can't wait to see how it turns out. Are you gonna be heat wrapping those pipes to protect some of the engine parts or do you think there is enough space?
I love the LS series motors and have nothing against swapping them in. They put out tremendous amounts of power and can knock down impressive mpg numbers if that is what your after.
They wont be heat wrapped, all the cold side pipes and hot side pipes minus the down pipe are stainless so they will dissipate heat well. For now just the exhaust housing on the turbo and the down pipe are heat coated in black, and the rest of the system will get jet hot coated as well later in the year when i build some more money back up and the car is done.
