Great choice! I've thought long and hard about doing this to my 69, but I just can't put a chevy in the old Buick. It loses all originality, in my opinion.
This 5.3L BONE STOCK (with Z06 cam swap) truck motor transplant in an 80's Ford Fairmont with single turbo that runs 9.73 had me really thinking about it.

I decided I will build a decent Buick street/strip motor for the Buick, and then do what your doing with a 6.0L LS in a '97 S-10 for a pure strip car.
I saw that GMPP has an A-body / muscle car oil pan listed in their catalog. I found it at paceparts.com.
I'll be interested to see how you make it all work. Good luck, and keep those of us who are interested informed of your progress.

Dyno and the track are two different animals. Putting the power to the ground is where they separate the men from the boys.

The power adder will come last and i havnt really decided on it yet. To start off ill do a 408 stroker kit with some ls3 ported heads (350cfm) and edelbrock xfi intake, which is kinda like a tunnel ram setup for fuel injection, 1500-7000rpm.

If I go the turbo route it will be a single 80mm-88mm turbo with intercooler and meth injection.
If I go the nitrous route it will be between 200-300 shot on a dual stage setup.

And before the power adders all the trans will need to take this power is some upgraded clutches and a full manual reverse valve body. Allong with a 4000 stall lockup converter.

Dont think ill have any problem hooking up either, they guy doing this swap for me is a chassis, suspension and fabrication man.

Ive already got adjustable shocks all around, and double adj. upper and lower rear control arms. With the last setup it would hook with little 9 inch slicks or the equivalent size drag radials everytime. Even with the future 200hp extra to the rear tires that im planning on shouldn't be a problem with my new mini tubs. 325-50-15 drag radials, and 28x13x15 slicks for the win:grin:

Still going to be a heavy car and im actually making it heavier lol. 22gal fuel cell in the trunk, 2 batteries, and 1 or 2 nitrous bottles (no trunk space left), but this will actually help the weight distribution to the rear.

Also a hitch hidden behind the bumper where the stock gas tank would be. Whenever i want to tow the trailer just have to lower the license plate, and put in the ball and tongue. (but totally hidden when not in use.

The Dark Side has seduced you with its cunning whiles, easy power gains and available parts, Young Grasshopper- Be Wary! Ford overhead cam engines are next, and then-your final downfall-vintage AMC drivelines and Lucas Electrics. You have chosen the Dark Path indeed, Young Streetwalker!! Beware!!!:eek2:  Your lightsaber grows less rigid with each transgression.

But hey seriously, if you're haven a good time and no ones getting hurt-who cares? More power ( literally- to ya!! )

Ill be using the stock ignition. The truck coils are actually more powerful than the any of the other LS engines including what is on the Z06 vetts and have been used and proven on motors running 1000hp. Im also sticking with the stock computer (tuned of course) and they too have been used for high hp applications but in the future i might switch to an aftermarket one if theres a need or i go over 15#s of boost.

I think it's a cool project, those motors have the potential for some serious power, and parts are relatively cheep too. Just one question, why the change in the first place? Your old combo sounded pretty sweet. Keep us posted and good luck.:beers2:

I myself wont get to take many pics because of school and work, and my car being 1 hour away, but ill see if the guy building this setup will take pics allong the way.

As far as fabrication, all hes doing is making custom solid motor mounts out of chrome molly, and making a new trans cross member for this huge trans, other than that most of it just just simple but really time consuming especially with the wiring harness and computer.

But like mentioned before this is just going in stock right now except for electric water pump and low mount alternator, maybe 400 crank hp lol. And after the conversion is over then ill start saving up money for all the mods.

Ive allready got a few more parts coming. It basically takes up all my trunk space but also will help with weight bias and traction in the future.
22 gal. fuel cell with sump sticking just below the trunk floor so all fittings and lines are under the car, 2 batteries with boxes, and either 1 or 2 nitrous bottles depending on space. (just making the car heavier:Dou:)

Like you said, parts availability and cheaper.
408 stroker kit $1800---aftermarket buick crank $2400 plus rods and pistons
    head that flow 350cfm $1200---buick heads flowing 350cfm ??? $2500
wanting to run 700rwhp safely and last a long time = stock block---700rwhp in the buick motor, stock block plus about $1200 in mods with girdle, or new $6000 block
    .....and so forth.

But im still not trying to bash buick so i dont want anyone jumping on my back about it. I love buick but for what im doing this is a lot more reasonable, affordable, and smart for what im wanting to do.

I loved my old buick motor with the procharger! But not the gas milleage and lack of long trips. With the new motor i can drive it anywhere, everyday, and still have all the power i want.

I would have guessed that. What would be the reason to do this?
