Getting close to having that one done. Im about a week away to getting started on mine. The rest of my parts will be in tuesday and wednesday and ill post up some more pics, then hopefully the lq9 motor will go to the shop and get started on the customization!
Well i almost have all the parts in, 2-piece timing cover, water pump, dual fuel pumps, and wiring harness will be in mon. or tues. 16 gal fuel cell, and remote batter box X2
Courtesy of Lonnies Performance and Lt1350.com (too lazy to pull new harness out and then pack it back in)
I also went ahead and ordered some arp rod bolts for a little security while running boost or nitrous before the 408 goes in. Edelbrock two piece timing cover, and meziere water pump:laugh:.
That is a sweet setup. This project looks to be coming together well. What time frame are you looking to have this done? Jamie
There are two cars being worked on now and the other is a 90mm turbo drag car so that one is being done first, but in two weeks were dropping my motor and welding up the custom chrome molly solid motor mounts then ill be setting up the wiring harness and fuel system while mike does all the misc wiring and customization. As far as when it has to be done, im not really picky, just happy to be moving forward and getting things done.
Man I am with ya, I've already got the 4L80E tranny behind my 455 and IF anything catastrophic happens to my 455 (Hopefully not), I'll just drop in a 6.0 or other standard GM engine. I've been watching the local craigslist for the 6.0Ls. I'm not into racing, but I am with you on what is more reliable, cost effective, and for the mose part true to the GM brand. -Chad
3000 stall converter and 125 shot of nitrous added to the mix:beer . Ill be in the very high 7's on bone stock motorp .
This is a cool project. We did a variable valve timing L92 into a '66 GTO last year, and the car ran great. One question - you can run a GM gas pedal and the drive-by-wire system very cheaply and easily.... why not use it? I think you can get a Monte Carlo pedal for like $55.00, and it bolts to the A-body floor with no problems. Here's the car we built... http://v8tvshow.com/content/blogcategory/74/118/
I just like (and trust) the throttle cable setup and is much cheeper than the elecronic tb setup. The pedals are cheep but the tac module is like $250 with the wiring harness.
Motor was dropped in today, but no pics...and prob wont be any untill the car is completely done. My camera got destroyed by a plasma cutter:ball: and all the pics of the motor build and custom mounts were lost. Hopefully all should be done in about 2 weeks
well talk about bringing it back from the dead, the car WILL be done in about a month now (FINALLY!!!) Still an lq9 6.0 motor, just with the corvette ls6 cam, stiffer valve springs, pushrods, and timing chain. Some pics....
Notice in the last pic the big hole in the car lol, trans tunnel had to be cut to fit the huge 4l80 trans in. And just incase i forgot to mention...the car is also getting a 75mm t6 turbo with air to water intercooler:eek2:
how do they do variable valve timing with a pushrod engine? never heard of this. I know Honda (vtec) uses oil pressure to drive a pin into free floating lifters, and thats how it uses the more extreme lobe.
Looking good! I like the thought of a Buick motor in a Buick, but I can sure understand what you are doing. Hard to argue with the horse power to dollar ratio of a Chevy to start with. Should be a more durable setup than a maxed out BBB also. Can't wait to hear how she does!
I cant believe your ruining your car, first you paint it like a GSX, which its NOT, now a chevy motor. Why dont you just buy a Malibu instead of ruining a Buick! Geeze!..... I'm so kidding! Some of these guy's are way too serious. I was told by "the real Buick guys", how bad it was that I pulled the V6 out of my GN and now are putting a V8 in it! Hell, its a 455 and their still complaining. Hot rodding is about you and your idea's. If they dont like it, good! I'm surprised they hav'nt said something about you not doing all the work yourself, thats a good one too.....I love your build! Thanks for sharing!
