TA Performance has a crank girdle that you can buy. I don't see a need to try to reproduce one.

    (1) Yes those were 455".

    (2) I've heard that rumor also. To make a long story short, the Kenne-Bell 4-bolt was sold to a guy that was going to replace it's current stage1 engine in his boat, but before he did that the boat sank.
That 4-bolt still exists to this day.:Brow:
So the Mi story may just be a rumor from what happened here.
Denny Manner is not so sure about the Mi story.

    (3) That was a hoax and a story in it's self.

    John,
If it were me, I would restore it with a 430" block. With the made up girdle for the front cover. If it was done back in the day it can be done in this day and age. I would try and reproduce it as close to original as possible.

Also, the 430" is a meatier and stronger block than a 455".
And if your going to just crackle fest it...

That's my take on it anyways...

    Guy,
I hear you on the 430 and I think that's the route we want to take with it too.
I am diving in head-first on a Buick 101 crash course so bear with me guys...and thank you again for all the assistance.:TU:

That would be a great start to an engine worthy of the car, but since they did it in the day with a 430 and were able to run the times they did, it can be done that way again!

This car is a very cool part of history. A modern aluminum block motor would be as out of place as a hemi in it.
It would be as out of place as an M-16 in a civil war museum!

John, I must say your story has choked me up a bit. As you tell your story I can see myself bringing my dad's 70 396 SS Chevelle home to him that he sold to make ends meet in the late 70's when I was 7 years old. All he talks about when we do Buick stuff is that Chevelle. I am sure my dad would break down in tears if I showed up with that car one day. Your dad must have done the same. I bet he thinks you are the best son on the planet. Good stuff John, and please do keep it all Buick:TU:

I should have more pics if John doesn't mind...

ps. can you tell I'm into the history of Buick drag cars?
I may know where the '67 Pops/Reynolds car is, working on that one.
