    Re: OK...picture time!

John if you post a pic of the cover of the mag that is missing a page I think I might have it in my collection of old mags. Chris

    wow, this is classic.

Chris, do you have access to a scanner? getting all of these scanned and clocked properly for reading would be a help.

Chris, the bottom left of the layout is tagged as "Speed & Supercar", page 56. i presume the month and year would be on the facing page that is missing. you would think it would be 1967-70 though.

I seen the speed & super cars page 56 that John has a heading that says "Dig the trunk lettering, gotta reproduce that!" John do you know if the missing part of the write up is out the same magazine? If I can just start by looking for the cover name it would be a big help. I am at the tail end of a reno so once I get threw that I might have time before I move to look for them. I'm sure I have some mags with this car and the 69 anything else with buick in it. I have many boxes of mags going back to the 50's. Also I would like some clear pic's of the magneto set-up on this car if there is any. Bob, If and when I find this stuff can I scan and e-mail the stuff to you to post..... Chris

Chris, that's all I have at the moment to go on,hopefully I'll get more with the car.The owner did tell me that someone sent him that Speed & Sport article and that the page was missing then.

Any help you guys can provide would be awesome...:TU:

Thank you jaybird for the nice comments.
I dug up this picture of Ron Pellegrini's Chrysler Hemi-powered Super Bird, though I'm sure you Buick guys know this car too...lost in an on-track incident:

Ron also ran this 1968 model with a Romeo Palamides chassis, car handled badly and was crashed:

    Welcome John!
    Extremely cool stuff here!!!

    Did you say a 430" 4-bolt???

It is sooo cool that it went back to your family.

    Congrats!!!

Yes...but pardon my ignorance...how rare are they?
I'm a Chevy guy and am just learning Buicks...crash course version, lol.

Talked with my dad last night and he explained to me the timing cover was also fabricated together with a crank girdle so when attached, the oil pan had to be modified to fit so yes...a very complex system...that will be difficult to reproduce.
We are determined to remain all-Buick with this time capsule so stay tuned for further developments and keep those comments and stories coming.:beer

I'm well versed on the 455" 4-bolts. Buick made up to six of them.
Currently I know where two are.

Never heard of a 430" 4-bolt...rare? oh yeah!!

    Wow...both sound extremely rare!
You mean GS Stage 1 cars were 2-bolt blocks..?:puzzled:

    Yes 2-bolt.
Buick never made a production 4-bolt.
They were all experimental given out to racers.
One to Tony Branson (sp?) and one to the Kenne-Bell camp for sure...the others:Do No:

weren't both of those 455 blocks?

word is, there's another 4 bolt 455 at the bottom of Lake Michigan. supposedly it was set up as a boat motor for some reason and the test mule sank in a storm.

who was the guy who was trying to sell a 4 bolt main X-block on here?

You mean GS Stage 1 cars were 2-bolt blocks..?:puzzled:

    yep.

there have been a couple of stock blocks retrofitted with 4 bolt mains and girdles but that might be even more rare than the factory experimentals.

    see Rod and Danie's Buick.

scary what Buick has accomplished with how little factory support they got from GM, ain't it?

Talked again with my dad and a few others who were involved with the car and the concensus is these were 2-bolt main blocks not 4-bolt,hence the reason dad fabricated the custom mag drive timing cover/crank girdle.
He said they had 2 blocks & 2 transmissions,I guess that's all Buick would contribute at the time.
