More photos here from Monday evening: http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/thumbpage.aspx?e=6612100 I like the scoreboards!!! No way, no how will there be racing next week nor should there be.
http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=204026 Looks like BG is over till October 19-24th rain date!! See you all then! Or maybe BPG too this year.
personally - I wouldn't put any weight into that track being opened by a set date. Nothing against The GSCA, The Nats, or Dallas or beachbend, just too much work ahead cleaning and rebuilding for me to take a set date at that track to the bank and try and cash it
I agree with Alan. They don't know the extent of the damage yet. If that was moving water and it swept away buildings, then you can count on eroeshon under the track pavement which will cause the track to buckle and heave. The old grand stands are probably weakened from being water logged and probably rendered unsafe. That's a shame.
It will be open for the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion, I will bet on that. If you have not been to that race, the Buick Nationals is a drop in the bucket to the number of cars they get in that place for that weekend. Jim N. P.S. That date is June 18-20
Living in Cedar Rapids, IA, where we went through a flood like this in 2008, let me tell you it will be very doubtful that they will be recovered in time. I remember when the water started receeding on our city, everyone was hopeful and ready with sleeves rolled up, to dive right in and start the recovery process. Many derogatory comments about how Katrina was handled and how we as 'hard working midwesterners' would never let a little water keep us from getting back to business. When the water receeded devastating doesn't even begin to describe the situation. You can't even imagine the damage flood waters do until you have lived it. 2 years later we are still a zillion miles from what the city once was. Bottom line, never underestimate the damage that lies underneath the water. This thing is gonna be a mess that takes a long time to clean up. I have not considered for a second it's going to happen after seeing the pics, and I was planning on driving down Wednesday. Just my 2 cents worth. The member from New Orleans that commented earlier can prob mirror my answer.
I feel for Dallas, Richard, and everyone who's been financially impacted by the cancellation/reschedule. But, this is small stuff when you look at the "Big Picture". Last weekends flood, is responsible for permanently changing the lives of many. May 2nd 2010 was a day to remember and Im thankful to be safe and dry.
Same here Glen, I spent the last two days with the coast guard doing a visual of big debris. My job was to flag down boat docks floating down river. I had 50 plus boat docks floating down river with pontoons, boats and big cruisers which would do damage to the dam. So yes I am thankful I was not effected.
It says on the GSCA site that the nationals are rescheduled for Oct. 20-23 2010. There is a renewed hope for me to make it there this year.
o well instead of 1 car in may now are whole crew can come and bring 3 of are cars. (one way to look at it)
I bet I am racing at Beech Bend within three weeks. This is not the first time the complete track has been under water and Dallas has the personnel and equipment to fix it.:Smarty:
well I talked to Richard tonight and offered whatever assistance the Buick Performance Group could offer...he was grateful and was looking forward to the October Event
Sean...your words are music to my ears..........my two favorite Buick club's men-in-charge communicating.......maybe all this chaos will bring everyone in the Buick Performance community closer together :beer Bowling Green in October could make for some VERY fast racing and a COOL 30th GS Nationals :TU: Peace and WILDCAT NATIONALS !
