Guys don't jump the gun just yet.I'm about 70 miles north of Nashille and about 70 miles southwest of Bowling Green and BG and my area didn't recieve anything to compare to Nashville.I got about 7 inches or so this weekend, rained fri nite till sun morning, and we have flooding/high water in all the areas that do flood from time to time. This rain came at a time that we were 6 inches short of normal rainfall;very soggy around my place Sunday but tonite I should have mowed the grass as my place is back to normal while the farm fields around me have high water in the low places.BG didn't get the flood of the century there and the track is flooded because it is right by the river.I expect the water will go down fairly quickly but how fast the race program can be going again is what the big question is.Any rest room & food building issues can be solved by porta pots and food trailers moved in.Probably won't be parking cars under the trees lining the river banks but the hill behind the stands and down the track is useable today; and it is used for event cars only for bigger events like goodguys and hot rod reunion so could be used for the GS Nats and move spectater cars to another area..Main concern is if racetrack would be ready as it is a major portion of the GS Nats.Give'em a day or two too see how it goes.

it does suck...on many levels...We have three enclosed trailers loaded and ready to go...2200+ miles round trip- hell we put in for the week for vacation the week we returned last year, hotel reservations as well! We planned on flying people out (already paid for the tickets) etc.

I called and talked to Dallas and them today, and they are optimistic - but really....even with the water gone, how long do you think it will take to clean up all the mud and trash? How much damage can you COUNT on from everything being underwater? No way in heck anyone could park on the grass- so what about the vendors and swap meet?....and most importantly.....we all saw last year firsthand what water seeping up through the track can do- its just not safe. Last year we did not get to run as much as we wanted due to just the little rain we got then....of course we thought it was a ton then!!

The biggest bummer for us is being way out here in West Texas there really aren't that many Buick guys/gals....so not getting to see all of our friends really blows!!!

    Monday May 3rd

All Drag races have been cancelled due to flood conditions. We hope to be running by May 14th but at this time it is to early to say if that will be possible. The Barren River reached an all time high today of nearly 44 feet causing a tremendous amount of damage and creating a huge cleanup which will start tomorrow.

Was just on Beech Bends site and copied this quote.

I'm here in town. I'll take a look at it tomorrow evening and see how it looks, maybe post a picture and see how it has dropped in another 36 hours.

I'm not going to sugar coat it if I get out to see it.

Even when the water goes down and the mud is removed the place is stil going to be a mess.

The smell, all the lifeforms and bacteria of the river, the chemicles from the farm field fields and septic this palce is its own little bio pit.

Has anyone talked to the GSCA yet? I would hope they would give people some notice and not just bet on a best case situation.

    Dude,

There is nothing like someone who is willing to jump in and help, and not just whine and complain.

    Here's to you! :beers2:

Davis, you are thinking right about this situation.........most people should stay away from and area that has flooded until it has had time to "die out"...........

With a lot of effort they may get the mud off the track but the percolation of water up through the cracks on to the track will continue for some time. And except for the passage of time there is little they can do about it.

You don't just have to get it off the track.....also the staging lanes and all the other paved areas or else the cars will just drag it on the strip from those areas.

Call the event this year......i will be there with bells on next year :Brow:

    Tom87GN I Bleed Buick Blood!

My prediction is that it will be at least 3 months before they hold another event at this track. By the time insurance catches up to this, given the widespread flooding around the area and all the claims......and all the water is actually removed......

This place is a bowl. Once the waters recede there is still going to be 4 feet of water in places that cannot escape unless it is pumped out and/or evaporates. Then you have the conditions that Topcat and Davis speak of to deal with, not to mention all the repairs to make it safe for folks to attend without there being liability issues.

I had a tear in my eye when I saw the pics surface yesterday......just makes me sick to my stomach.

    2010 GS Nationals

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, my phone has been blowing up non stop. Please remember I am on Central Standard time and call accordingly (The guys from Europe may call anytime.). Here is the deal, NOTHING has been changed as of yet. I can't tell you that it will or won't be ready absolutely. I am sure we will know much more by Thurs. As of right now Dallas is hoping the waters will continue to receed so that they may get everything back to normal as quickly as possible. As for all the operators at Rumor Control Central, unless you hear it from Ron or myself regarding the GS Nats this year it simply isn't true. I appologize for having to wait until later this week to know for sure but under the circumstances no one could do better.
