With that much water, do you think the track will remain level? Do you think they will have to rebuild the track? I can imagine that it won't settle back perfectly and cracks will form.

Hmmmm, good question. I think maybe their sub-soil is more compact than ours. heavy clay maybe???????

P.S. The mud isn't anything for a dozer with a squegee(sp?) attached. That's how we cleaned the streets and homes after Katrina.

I talked to a buddy of mine today that took a boat out to Beech Bend so they could get to the tower and remove some equipment and he said they are shooting for a reopen for the NHRA Sports Nationals 28-30 May. The river has not crested yet but they say it will tonight after rising a few more feet.

Yes, thousands are homeless in the Nashville area. Estimates are 10,000-20,000 are displaced. Most staying with family and friends. I live on the Cumberland river northeast of Nashville. I live on Old Hickory Lake which is feed by the Cumberland River. Spent the most of the day watching boatdocks with boats floating down the river. They are trying to corral the boat docks so the do not clog up the dam. If the dam gets clog it may get breached. Then a horrific thing may happen to Nashville. So far I have seen 30 plus boatdocks with boats floating down the river. They do have the coastguard going up and down river to spot for huge debris.

Yes it is mess... The stadium where the Titans play is 4 feet under water... The place where the Predators play hockey is filling up with water. Also, Opryland is flooded over.

This definitely stinks for a lot of people. The event I was going to this weekend got cancelled too. Definitely no good news. This track was a beautiful track, and it sounds like it has some damage now. Here is a link to the track's site.

When we called to cancel our hotel rooms the receptionist told us school is cancelled the rest of the week in BG and the road near the Ramada was under water as well.

Warren County schools are open tommorrow and none of Scottsville Rd. is under water. Only real bad spots were near large bodies of water already. Things are bad in some parts of B.G. but not as bad as Tn. Maybe a miracle will help everyone in need and let the GS Nat's happen next week.

Wow, what a mess... I wasn't going, but I really feel bad for those of you who were looking forward to the trip.

I hope if it does open it's operating at a level acceptable to all.

With all the flooding and knowing that track and it's layout......it would have to be sunny, hot, windy and dry for DAYS to remove all the moisture that track soaked up.....

Call the event and plan for next year...that's my .02 cents worth at this point....

Well, I had plans on coming this year. Had planned for it since Jan. Guess me not making it to BG is the least of people's worries. Many sad people down there right now!

Don't see how it's possible to get that place ready for us. Electrical and building repair will be worse than mud probably.

I am just concerned that the economic forces will try to pull off a Nats that will not be worth attending........ considering what Beech Bend Raceway is going thru right now and the work it will take to get it up and running(if they can) after the water goes down......

This and other events are just horrific on so many levels for the Residents, the Racer's and the Fan's too! :ball:

I was there for the Buick Nats at Bowling Green held in 2008 on Friday morning, after a weeklong rain that year that curtailed racing for days.
But that rain was lightweight compared to this year's deluge. :(

By that Friday in 'o8, the postponed qualifying continued way after it got dark at BG.

As you know if you've been to BG, there aren't any lights.

So with the "headlights on racing" and "flashlights in the hands of the starting line crew" well it had us feeling like we were at a Streetrace from days gone by with the Headlamps high launches, and the Tailights dwindling downtrack..... :eek2:

It was awesome, and here are some pics from Saturday 'o8.
The nicest day of that 2008 Buick Nat's week.... :TU:

I cant see it being any event at all since the track website says no racing till the 14th at the earliest.. 2 days for the GSCA...maybe its time to cancel it so people can get to the task of cleaning up and not worring about the event. Surely the event staff have insurance for this kind of thing

WTH!!! This is terrible! For once I was ready way ahead of time. My car is all ready and loaded in the trailer!

There is NO WAY they'll be ready for the Nat's next week. Don't forget that the water that's covering the track is now in a "bowl". When the water receeds and the river level goes back down, that "bowl" of water is going to remain a "bowl of water! It's going to need to soak in, evaporate, or be pumped out, and that's not going to happen quickly. Then they can start to rebuild, rewire, etc, etc. I would be impressed if they're open for drag racing by the 4th of July.

I wonder if they will try to reschedule, or just skip a year. This would have been my 27th in a row!

Guess I'll have to push to get the new drag car done by August for the BPG!! :Brow:

I HOPE everyone down there stays safe!!!!
