Yeah, it was fairly ugly (the car and the owner and his cronies)......

Pics later as I forgot my film disk.....

Anyway we get up there and see the car covered up with a fresh tarp with heavy wire threaded thru all the grommets to keep the cover on. Hey he might have something there. So the cover comes off to reveal water on the floorboards a few inches deep and algae on the inside class. Would have been better with no cover! Sorry Mike, your goldfish didn't make it ....

So on to the motor.....put my fresh battery in and crank it over. Hmmmm, cranking pretty uneven but at least it's cranking. Fill bowl with pump but no accel pump shot (dried out, I'm sure) but plenty of fuel....some flooding.
No fire.....look at the plugs. Of course NOT new like he had told me on the phone. Can't deal with a LIAR!!! Still rusty. Look in oil cap looks like water not oil in there. Pull a valve cover and lots of rust on rockers, pushrods and heavy rust on underside of valve cover. WTF! No way it was running a few weeks back!!!!

Well to make a long agonizing story short he agreed to pay me the $500 I had "overpaid". And $1000 for damages to the engine/car from lack of reasonable care. But....hold the phone.....I've got no $$$ just a note in writing that he would settle in 2 weeks. He said he didn't have that much in his account at the moment (hospital bills, etc from his 10 day stay a month ago) On retrospect I should have taken a check and waited to cash it.

We pushed the GS onto my trailer, grabbed another Yeungling and hit the road. On the way back we stopped at another bodyshop. Of course as I suspected he moaned and groaned about how the work that was done was not done right and that it would take big bucks to make it right...at least $10K. Makes the $3200 that the jerk wanted to finish it look pretty good.
That way he would have had to fix the crappy work that he did.......no, I don't think so just a crappy job that wouldn't last.

So, the saga continues. I am left with a car that is in many respects worse than it was 4 1/2 yrs ago. .....for $3500....assuming I get paid. :Brow:

This car was meant to be a driver/racer not a show car so I'm caught between putting big bucks into it or making it decent and have fun with it.

Larry, I think Bruce wants to keep a lid on unit all the details are finallized. So as far as anyone looking for body work around here contact me and I won't lead you wrong :beer . This guy was pissed when he didn't get to paint my 68 Corvette or the 68 Sportwagon or the 84 Century wagon. I'm a good judge of character and I never trusted him and wish I knew Bruce before the mess started!!! :beer AL.

Bruce - PLEASE dont beat yourself up over the lost time and money and second-guess whether reposessing your car was the right decision

This guy was a Liar to the EXTREME, a Lousy businessman, and a thief !! You should feel lucky you got your car back

Instead of beating yourself up ......make this a lesson that you learn from and chalk it up as the "Tuition Fee"

Lesson #1 - Trust your instincts
Lesson #2 - DO NOT let things "carry on" forever without taking action
Lesson #3 - get EVERYTHING in writing, before / during / and after the deal
Lesoon #4 - NEVER be afraid to stand up for what you KNOW is right/ you deserve
Lesson #5 - If things are going bad, CUT ALL TIES before they get even worse

No one can use you as a doormat unless you let them.....This thread is pathetic.

If you let the car sit there, you will get what you deserve.

I apologize for the hard talk, but you need to "grow a pair" and get the situation resolved.

    Body Shop Problems

Tom, this was a trying situation for me because its not my car and not my deal at the body shop, I just happen to know of the guy who runs it. Bruce is a real trusting guy and it just ate me up to see him worked over the way the shop owner was doing. I don't think I will get a Christmas or Birthday card from the shop owner  , AL.
